16-20 ads an hour (assuming 15 seconds each) is absolutely ridiculous. Only reason I still have Netflix is because T-Mobile pays for half of it. We never really watch anything on Netflix these days though so it may be time to reconsider canceling. Between HBO, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV+ we have too much to watch already.

I'm with you, besides Stranger Things they don't have any good original shows anymore, and they lost all the Marvel shows to Disney. There's just too much competition now, makes no sense to pay anything more than $9.99 for any streaming service. HBO is next to go.

THE PEAKY BLINDERS WOULD BEG TO DIFFER

We said goodbye to the cable company in late 2017. While it wasn't planned at all, but that did happen just about a month when I got an AppleTV 4K. Originally just for fun and I never thought it would work for the family. Now they don't want anything else.

Netflix was one of the first services and it isn't that bad. They offer good programming, but it is tailored to the region/country. Combined with the other services like Disney, Prime and a couple of others, it works for us and the children. Added up still cheaper than cable which only offers channels with almost the same programmes, stuffed with annoying ads.

I persume that in the near future cable companies will be transformed to just an internet service, and the bigger television/movie production houses will have their own distribution service as an app on AppleTV or hook into some kind of standard app (like the TV app now). No more cable-company-in-the-middle.

If one looks at Comcast, once you have locked in an Internet/TV account they purposely block removing the TV from web interface. As you say you can force them to comply, but they try to rope you in. But Comcast owns NBC universal , operates Peacock, part owner of Hulu for now, so they played their cards better then just a ISP.

Huh... I guess I'm the only one who will be getting into Netflix :D However, unlike many others who've been with NF for over a decade (even going back to when they were just shipping DVDs), I'd be nearly brand new to the service!

Cancelled Netflix. I paid for a plan that allowed for two simultaneous streams, so my grandma could watch. With their recent “crackdown”, they stopped that from being possible since we don’t live in the same house.
Don’t sell plans that allow for two simultaneous streams and then say my CLOSE family member can’t use the second stream. BYE!
I'm curious as to what their ToS say about this. If it does stipulate "same household", then it sucks, but that is spelled out. Otherwise, that is indeed a headscratcher.

It's unfortunate where Netflix pricing has gone over the years. I can imagine given the quantity of content they need the income to support it and future shows/movies.

I wish they focused a bit more on quality rather than quantity and kept the price more manageable.

I mean… for three dollars a month you might as well get rid of the ads. At least the basic plan is 720p now.
How bad are the ads on Netflix? I know on Hulu, the ads are so bad that I simply must pay nearly double (from $8/mo to $15/mo) for ad-free. Hell, I wouldn't use it even if they, paid me, to do so (let alone when it only cost $2 due to the black Friday sale)

I can't wait for people to lose their minds over a service they can simply choose to ignore.
Pretty much this. For those who weren't really using it, but keeping it around b/c it was cheap... hate to break it to you, but you really should've cancelled it sooner. Money wasted is still money wasted.

I cut the cord awhile ago and quickly realized how much time I wasted watching a TV screen. Even just having it on in the background felt toxic.

Then I switched to a streaming service and enjoyed choosing what and when I watched a program, and without ads. I found I watched a lot less TV.

I've since cut out streaming too and don't miss it for a second. At some point I may go back to a media service but only if I can buy programming al a carte and without ads.

How is Netflix still not in their prime? Not only is it the most popular streaming service amoung teens and young adults (which happens to be the most sought after demographic) but it's also the most popular streaming service in the world

and U.S. consumers would rather go hungry than cancel their Netflix subscription

Hmm, can someone confirm that Amazon Prime is the entire service, and also includes Prime Shipping, and in the US, includes the likes of Amazon Music, Photos, Whole Foods, grocery delivery, etc.? If so, I'd like to know what it's like compared to Prime Video, which is just the streaming service protion (and thus, an apples-to-apples comparison)

Ads really truly suck when I watch shows. If there has to be an ad for a free service, let it be only 1 commercial for the ad break in the program. 🤮

Even since cancelling my subscription, they are pretty relentless trying to regain my business with a barrage of emails almost daily. No thanks Netflix.
Unsubscribe from their emails and report them to the FTC if that doesn’t work. Life is too short to be bombarded by email ads.

They openly encouraged password sharing for years. If they did against their TOS, they’re trash. If they changed their ToS…they’re trash. It’s a pathetic policy. Again…you pay for two streams. It shouldn’t matter to them that the person lives in the next room, across the street, whatever. You’re paying for it. Happy to cancel and will never go back.

I thought the Apple TV subscription wasn't supposed to have ads! Shame on you, Apple! May the ghost of Steve Jobs haunt you.

But if it's on Apple TV, it's not supposed to have ads, right? That's why we pay for an Apple TV subscription!
Trying to imply Apple TV + is the same as Netflix? Nope two different streaming video providers. What they were relating to is both are apps on the Apple TV device. Dumb Apple should never called it Apple TV + versus Apple TV hardware.

The fact that I have to pay additional to stream 4K is absurd. Netflix had already made the chopping block - we’ll watch a few things over the next month or two then cancel it again. Too many streaming services and they all think they are worth big bucks.

Paid streaming and software subscription services is one of the worst things to come out of the internet.

I pay 19 dollars for Netflix' 4k content and is pretty much happy. All family members also can watch in their rooms. Always can find something to watch. I don't watch their documentaries, but seem very good too.

100% agree with the concept of willing to watch ads for a cheaper service.

Even to the point of physical goods.
If you wish to stick a BIG FORD LOGO on the side of my car, and reduce the price of the car by $1000 then I'm more than happy for that option to be there for those who find it beneficial.

However it has to be priced/balanced correctly for it to work.

Let me assume that Netflix has some very intelligent people working there, and they have done a lot of market research.
I would have to draw the conclusion is they are putting this $3 price difference in place as they wish to be seen to do something as far as the media/advertising is concerned, but they really value those $3 amounts when multiplied by their userbase, so they don't really want many people to take advantage of this offer.

So they hope to get a little win on both sides:
1: Be seen to be offering a lower priced option.
2: Not make it attractive enough so that too many people actually take advantage of the offer.

That would be my conclusion.
