I can see how some users have lost this while restoring their iPhones. I have the app on my iPhone but it is not listed in iTunes. Perhaps iTunes only syncs over apps which are still on the app store? In any case, if I have to restore my iPhone I think there is a chance it will vanish, unless it is actually stored in the backup.

Anyone know if that is the case?

I'm also curious to know if downloading the app (which I am happy to do so as I have paid for it) and tossing it into the iTunes app directory would resolve this concern. I guess I have some homework to do -- or a refund to request.

It's a good practice to save a copy of Everything in your iTunes/Mobile Applications directory in a Backup Folder on your Hard Drive.

What the French Toast?

Why doesn't APPLE Just leave the damn app up and available. Stupidness I tell ya

Netshare shows up in my iTunes Library > Applications. Is it not the case for other people?

Yes, this is where it shows within iTunes.
However, the actual locations of the files are located in:
In iTunes, click on Edit/Preferences/Advanced/General
Look at the location of iTunes Music folder location.
Now, in your computer browser, enter this location, then open the Mobile Application folder. This is where the actual files are located.
This is the folder that you want to BACK UP somewhere else in case you lose any of these files.

I think Verizon limits you to 5GB/month also

On a broadband USB or Expresscard, I think Verizon limits you to 5GB/month also.

No network offers real unlimited data, but that does not explain this fiasco.[/QUOTE]

I bought the app the moment it came out, I've synced numerous times, bought other apps, and netshare is still there...I made a copy of the file just in case, but it's weird how the app is disappearing off some people's OWN computers, anyone know why this is happening, I just can't see Apple going into YOUR computer and deleting something

I cant find it in my computer either!

It is still on my phone but I am afraid that once I sync it will be gone. is there any way to back up the phone without loosing the program?

where does Itunes keep the back up I have fridays and that should have a copy of it.

it's come and gone. Apple pulled it from the app store without a giving a reason. Where have you been, newbie?! Read the thread!

actually the poster had a good point since it was pulled and then republshed and pulled again, so rather than attacking the poster read the thread yourself.

Verizon Wireless allowed me to tether any of their phones with bluetooth and their operating system...it was an option and worked on my mac, never "crashed the network" and it worked on both platforms
Hmm ... when I looked at adding a data plan with one of verizon's PDA phones, tethering was definitely prohibited in the contract (unless you add the tethering option at about double the cost). Just take a look over at Howard Forums ... many discussions of how not to tether too much and invoke Verizon's wrath.

And BTW, Verizon and Sprint aren't unlimited either ... evem for the legit tethering plans.

Right,

When your iPhone is connected to your computer, right click on it in iTunes and select Transfer Purchases. This should transfer Netshare into Applications section on iTunes. Now right click again and click on Backup iPhone.

The App should now be stored on your hard drive, in:

Music > iTunes > Mobile Applications

It will appear as Netshare.ipa, basically the IPA file is just a zip file which contains the .app.

Now you can back the IPA up also but I'm not sure if you were to restore your iPhone if this would automatically be resynced if you put it in the Mobile Applications folder even if the DRM rubbish on it was linked to your iTunes account, maybe someone else can clear this up..

The news page at Nullsoft changed in the last hour or so. They apparently are in contact with Apple and working to get the app back up.

"We've finally gotten in contact with Apple. Looks like the lack of communication was due to automated e-mail systems being employed on both ends, which resulted in e-mails being lost in transit. We're working with Apple to get NetShare back up on the AppStore."

This is one of the lamest, most implausible explanations I've ever read. "Our servers ate each other emails"? What, there was no dog around to eat the email? Only the most gullible could possibly believe this. You're supposed to believe that Apple and Nullsoft have never communicated by email before, that neither company realized until now that their respective email servers were trashing emails, that no one at either company ever thought of picking up a PHONE and calling their counterpart? Hey, how about using those new fangled iPhone everyone's been talking about? I hear you can hear the voice of people in distant lands!

What obviously happened is that Nullsoft's vocal and public criticism irritated Apple and Apple pushed back hard and Nullsoft came up with this face-saving excuse, as dumb as it is. At the end of the day, Nullsoft is at the mercy of Apple. Never bite the hand of the corporate master that controls the distribution channel for your product. A warning to developers on all platforms out there....

You REALLY don't understand how Apple and the App Store works do you.

They have thousands of developers out there and they really can't be bothered to talk to anyone - you should have seen the fiasco when they invited applications to join the developer team.

Apple are a law unto themselves - their customer service at this level is abysmall but they will still be successful. I checked the developer contact line and it's currently 'expected wait time is more than 90 minutes'. You can't get a refund for software downloads that don't work, crash your iPhone and you can't re-download music or apps that you lose through a hard drive crash even though it's listed in your list of purchased items and you can't get anyone to talk to you.

So I believe them on this one.

I DID THIS BUT NETSHARE still does not show up in the actual folder, but I do see it in the itunes libary, very strange.....I am backing it up but where does itunes store the iphone backup I am having a problem locating this!

thanks so much for your help on this!

We're not talking about thousands of developers or regular customers seeking refunds. We're talking about how Apple has dealt with the handful of apps that they've withdrawn since the launch of the store. How many is that? 5? Maybe 10? The notion that developers who have earned this dubious honor somehow have to go through the same telephone queue as the developer who wants an iPhone SKU or Joe Smith who wants a refund on his Season Pass of The Wire is laughable, especially in this case. Apple has enough people to RE-review applications that it had ALREADY approved but doesn't have the time to contact the developers of those apps to tell them why they're being pulled from the Store? Apple has lavished NetShare with attention, attention I'm sure Nullsoft wishes it hadn't received, since its launch. Counting the initial approval of the application plus the two subsequent re-posting, Apple has approved this application THREE times. Apple has had the time and resources to play Hamlet with NetShare but hasn't had the time to pick up a phone and call them to tell them why they're going back and forth on this application or respond to Nullsoft's inquiries, both private and public, asking for an explanation? Please. Use some common sense. The thing about plausible deniability is just that, it's gotta be PLAUSIBLE. This "dog ate my homework/servers ate our email" explanation - an excuse I've been too embarrassed to use since I was 8-years-old - defies credulity.

From the nullriver website, posted today :

NetShare status report 2

We've finally gotten in contact with Apple. Looks like the lack of communication was due to automated e-mail systems being employed on both ends, which resulted in e-mails being lost in transit. We're working with Apple to get NetShare back up on the AppStore.

Netshare - FREE??

Has anyone that bought this app - during that window when it was available - seen their receipt from Apple yet? I just got mine...

Looks like it was FREE - though I know it was listed as $9.99

Odd.

['skuze me if this was reported before - I didn't read the whole thread here]

No, that just means that you downloaded it again from either your phone or iTunes a second time for free. You only pay for the first time you download it.

BTW. I just spoke with a Fido representative a while ago. Their 3G network has been down all day and the guy told me that Fido is ok with use of the Netshare app.

Still, I plan on using it sparingly.

Spread you wings and fly......

Now's a great time to just enjoy netshare -Wherever you are!

Updates will come soon eneough ,I expect and all those ranting and raging about our good fortune need to relax a little more.No doubt tethering apps will be popular and you will get your chance to pick the right one for you when your ready!
