Look, either AT&T will allow it, in which case it will be there next week, or they won't, in which case I'm sure 2.1 will "break" this app. In that case, you just wasted $10.

So either way, I see no downside to waiting a week and seeing how this pans out.

I don't see how Apple could sell the app. in the App. store and then change the software so the app. no longer works. Pretty sure a refund would be forthcoming if Apple screwed up on allowing the app. to be made available. But I don't see it. It is perfectly legitimate. People just need to understand that using it might come with some economic consequences.

Has anyone figured out how to connect CiscoVPN through NetShare? Safari works, but I can not get CiscoVPN to connect...

I say, use it while you can. Even though you may have wasted ten bucks on it... it isn't like you are going to go in debt if you buy it -- I mean, you own an iPhone.

I'm sure there will be some workaround from the community anyways ;)

I agree. I can't see AT&T allowing it for free, that's just the way they are. However, if the app gets pulled, this will make jail breaking more attractive which is just a dam waiting to bust loose all over the app store income. Given the wads of cash flowing into the iStore I would think that Apple would work with AT&T to prevent that.

I can search "netshare" for my iPhone's App Store and it successfully downloaded and installed.

I use iPhone 3G with Rogers in Canada.

Haven't really tested it with my computer yet, and I'll update if I can test some time when I'm not busy.

How did folks get Mail to work? Somehow mine can't connect to the IMAP server, although I have no problem browsing.

If you have a jailbroken phone, you already have a socks proxy. It's called ssh. Setup the wireless as descriped then ssh to your phone adding the -D option
ssh root@192.168.0.1 -D 1080
Then set your socks proxy to 127.0.0.1 port 1080

Using a socks proxy works well enough for apps that support socks. Apps that don't support socks require some additional effort.
Regardless of what socks proxy you use, this is not seamless tethering.

UD.

Ugh... I hate buyer's remorse. I'm starting to wonder if buying this wasn't such a good idea.

If you'll use it, you did the right thing. Apple and AT&T can't punish you for buying an app through the app store and using it as intended. Which is what I'm doing right now.

I take a train everyday, and I can't access the wi-fi in my office through my mac, so this is hugely useful for me. I used to walk a block away to pick up a wi-fi signal when I needed to d/l something to my MBA, and if I was on the train, I was SOL.

My point was that I see no rush in getting it right now. Obviously Apple thought about it and decided to put it back. I don't think it's going anywhere, which is the idea I was arguing against.

I'm actually having trouble thinking what I would use this for. What can't I do on my iPhone? Hmmm...I guess use iPhoto to directly update my MobileMe galleries?

Ok, that's something, but I sure don't need that feature this instant. Maybe something to pick up before my next vacation, but that's honestly the only idea I have for it at the moment.

They can't bill you per KB because it's "unlimited" but they can kick you off the network/disconnect you internet for network abuse.

read the contract before you post stuff you do not know:rolleyes:

its in black and white

iphone contract

while the plan says it is unlimited, it isnt at all. either way, the contract forbids sharing internet connection with a pc
