Yep. The watermark is supposed to be the same as the portrait on the bill. So a $5 would have a Lincoln watermark, a $20 a Jackson watermark. The $1000 doesn't have a Grover Cleveland watermark (at least the bill I've got). I haven't gotten my mits on the $10,000 or the $100,000 bills yet.:( I've heard rumors of a $1,000,000 bill but I've only seen that in Leisure Suit Larry 2.;)

are those still legal tender? like could you spend one?

The ones still in existence are legal tender worth face value (worth more than face value by collectors) but the mints no longer print anything higher than a 100 dollar note anymore, my pop used to run around with five 500 dollar notes in his wallet for emergencies while that denomination was still in print.

Most beautiful bill in the world:

Large denomination bills (above $100) were discontinued in 1969, long before they implemented watermarks. The biggest denomination bill you will ever be able to obtain is the $10,000 bill. The largest bill ever printed was the $100,000 gold certificate bill (picturing Woodrow Wilson), which was never released into public circulation. The government has every single one of them and you'll never get one. Sorry!

All denominations above $100 are still legal tender, but you'd be a fool to spend them, because once the Bureau of Engraving & Printing gets ahold of them they're destroyed.

Lotsa neat pictures here:

heh, you silly Euro users. Get real! meh, never mind it. Our currency is getting pounded somewhat now as well. Screw your ECB!

As for me, I'm quite anxious to see the official release of the ninth series of the swiss franc. Even these drafts are neat, and I'm sure that the final ones will be even better, especially to view in person.

The proposed security features are also somewhat impressive, seeing as there has been little improvement between the last few series.

Even after seeing the release of this new USD 100 note, I'm wondering how many people actually use them. It's not uncommon in Switzerland to see people walking around with CHF 50, 100, and 200 banknotes, though I don't recall ever seeing anything higher than a $20 in the United States outside of a bank. I know that many domestic businesses won't even accept the larger variants of the US dollar, so would just using many these notes at once, even if legally obtained, throw up some red flags?

While this is an improvement, our money still looks awful when compared to Euros and the Canadian dollar.

Euros are the best IMO. I kinda wish I hadn't spent all mine and had a few Euro notes to bring back with me from my trip to Germany.

Our bills are just butt-fugly.
