As for me, I'm quite anxious to see the official release of the ninth series of the swiss franc. Even these drafts are neat, and I'm sure that the final ones will be even better, especially to view in person.
Even after seeing the release of this new USD 100 note, I'm wondering how many people actually use them. It's not uncommon in Switzerland to see people walking around with CHF 50, 100, and 200 banknotes, though I don't recall ever seeing anything higher than a $20 in the United States outside of a bank. I know that many domestic businesses won't even accept the larger variants of the US dollar, so would just using many these notes at once, even if legally obtained, throw up some red flags?
Really liking the new drafts, except the vertical lettering and numbering. Looks awkward.
When I lived in Germany in the late eighties, it was common to see large denomination notes DM200, DM500 etc used in department stores. Even for small purchases. I stood behind a guy at the local bank where he withdrew a small fortune in DM1000 notes. Nobody else batted an eyelid. Credit, debit and charge cards were pretty unusual in Germany and I always felt like I stepped back in time when it came to financial transactions. Even chain stores like C&A, which in other European countries took all manner of cards only accepted cash or eurocheques in Germany back in the day.
