Nah apple will just make the ultra (or whatever buzz word they use for the highest end model) will get the faster speeds and all the other iPhones will get the slower speeds. One more way for apple to "differentiate" the phones. Tim Cook at his finest, milking everything for every cent he can.
The fact that this is the best case scenario is just sad.

As noted in The Verge's review of the new iPad, released this week, the device's USB-C port is limited to USB 2.0 speeds of up to 480 Mbps for data transfer. This means that despite being equipped with a USB-C port, the 10th-generation iPad has the same data transfer speeds as the ninth-generation iPad with the Lightning connector.
What a joke. Means you should buy a discounted M1 based iPad Air if you want something better, but still not that expensive. You get the base model for $519 on Amazon.

Guess it's a good thing I got my third gen Pro when I did. This sounds like it's going to be a giant clusterscrew

Ah yes, this is why the next phone shouldn’t have usb c to match every single other product they sell. Because we all use a cable to sync with our computer all the time, so having slightly slower sync speeds would be an absolute dealbreaker. 🙄

This does not bode well for the iPhone 15 series.
I disagree. The iPhone 15, at least the Pros, will be marketed as Pro devices, especially since they can record ProRes video in 4K (or higher with this generation possibly), so Apple is probably going to give the USB-C port a decent speed upgrade at least on the Pro models

I used to transfer files using a cable from iPhone/iPad to a Windows computer but after I found an app that I can use to transfer files wirelessly [Wi-Fi] that has been the way I transfer files except when it is a transfer between iPhone and iPad where I use AirDrop...

I know some people aren’t bothered about the latest and greatest and everyone’s needs are different but even with a couple of spec differences looking at Apple’s website it’s almost a ‘no brainer’ to potentially opt for a refurbished iPad Air 4th Generation for £439 than opt for iPad 10th Generation at £499.

Apple putting USB 2.0 in a brand new shipping product toward the end of 2022. Cringe.

I see people leaving the company in the design division, auto division. I wonder if they are just sick of this bean-counter stupid, somewhat embarrassing BS.

As a 40-year Apple user and enthusiast, I honestly find this concerning, on some level.

Oh my God, I knew it but I had never thought hard enough about the USB 2 on iPhones.
$1500 devices with massive storage and USB 2 for backups. Pathetic.
It looks so reasonable on this in comparison. It’s not for professionals anyway.
Yeah, 48mp photos on a new $1100 phone, at usb 2 transfer speeds. - Apple’s “pro” flagship in 2022…

I purchased a near-mint 10.5 2017 iPad pro with a keyboard for a bit over $200.00
This will satisfy me about the same as purchasing the new iPad 10 (with a keyboard).

My guess is one of two things:
1) The A14 has a USB 2.0 controller so that is what the iPad is limited to, be it Lightning or USB-C.
2) Apple is intentionally restricting performance to USB 2.0 speeds as part of the differentiation from the iPad Air.

As for iPhone 15, I am very confident it will support 10Gbps over USB-C.

I think the iPad 10th generation is going to be a massive failure. You have the price going against it since you can buy budget Windows 11 laptops or Chrome Books for cheaper that does not have the limitations of iPadOS. In addition, what has Apple done to justify such a dramatic price hike since we are talking about older tech not cutting-edge bleeding technology to justify such a price hike.

Of course. They must have plummeted due to this single limitation that’s not even a downgrade compared to the previous model, which no one knew about until today. That’s definitely the reason for plummeting sales. 😉
You are correct that is not the sole reason for the current declining sales, but this is not going to help when you combine this with the price hike for mostly recycled old tech Apple had widely available.
