I can see it already: iPhone 15 with usb-c port at usb 2.0 speeds.
Glad I have never resorted on the port to transfer content, I rely on AirDrop and iCloud. It is already a mess, you all know the future is port-free. So Apple see's no reason to spend extra money on higher efficiency ports/chips for data transfer

Also iPad is the entry level iPad, why do people expect pro level ports? Just because Samsung and the few others holding on by thin threads that already are hurting in the tablet market to survive give it to you, doesn't mean Apple is going to.

Oh my God, I knew it but I had never thought hard enough about the USB 2 on iPhones.
$1500 devices with massive storage and USB 2 for backups. Pathetic.
It looks so reasonable on this in comparison. It’s not for professionals anyway.

What are you guys crying about. The iPad Pro have Thunderbolt 4, the same as the 14" and 16" MBP.

You guys make it sounds like every iPad has UBS 2.0 speed and thus every iPhone will be, while this is not the case.

My guess is one of two things:
1) The A14 has a USB 2.0 controller so that is what the iPad is limited to, be it Lightning or USB-C.
2) Apple is intentionally restricting performance to USB 2.0 speeds as part of the differentiation from the iPad Air.

As for iPhone 15, I am very confident it will support 10Gbps over USB-C.

I take it you forgot that the A9 architecture can support USB 3.0 as evidenced by the first gen 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

2. This is a deliberate move by Apple to make it USB 2.0 speeds. Which means it will create fear for those people wanting an iPhone with USB 3.0 or higher 😁😁😁

I am sure Apple will do same thing with future iPhone SE and maybe non-pro models. This is how they do business; and this is Not the way to go if you want new Apple product users to buy more pro models in the future. If Apple wants to stiff new users like this, who is going to be loyal?

This is why I never liked the penny-pinching Tim Cook. Steve always put the user experience in front of anything; Tim always puts profit margins in front of anything.

The port in question on the 10th gen iPad supports 4k video up to 30fps. You can’t do that with 480Mb connection. BTW, max tech is clickbait trash, I can’t believe anyone would believe anything they say.
USB 2.0 is capable of 4k/30

I’ve been trying to tell people that USB-C on a future iPhone 15 doesn’t necessarily mean 3.0 speeds.
People seem to forget that USB-C is just the connector type and not the speed.

I'd guess the next version phones Pro will have 3.0/Thunderbolt speeds where the standard iphones will be limited to USB2 still.
This is why I never liked the penny-pinching Tim Cook. Steve always put the user experience in front of anything; Tim always puts profit margins in front of anything.
It's smart business rather than penny pinching wouldn't you think ? ... pay more to get more.

Steve never gave people more than the majority absolutely needed without paying through the nose either, and most folk I know don't even backup their iPads to the cloud, or anywhere else for that matter. Transfer speeds matter to the minority, and those who care should not be looking at the low end devices (or whats the point in the Air/Pro).

I think not everyone understands that having a USB-C port does not guarantee a particular speed. USB-C cables are just now getting a power rating on the cable.

Android Authority also has an article about USB-C:

The difference is not in the connector. Apple could have chosen a better chipset to support something like USB 3.2 Gen 2. The USB 2.0 speed is probably within spec.
If you're talking about the A14, apparently that isn't the case:

The iPad Air 4 has an A14 chip and it supports 5Gbps USB-C transfer speeds.
This was likely intentional by Apple to make potential tech-aware buyers think twice about going for the base iPad 10. Makes it more tempting to go for the higher-end iPads.
