Same here. My laptop is always plugged into power and network. I also want the thing to last which, for me, means I'd want 16gb in there.

Looks like I'll be waiting to see the specs on the Macbook Pro refresh.
Ditto ... I have a 12" 2015 MB and the current MBP, just trying to bridge a gap and sell both for a refresh - having both is a little dumb...

Having used Macs since 1986, I can say that for me, the Macbook fits a special place between my iphone and rMBP (or Mac Mini whenever it gets updated to handle 4K).

I actually don't want to rely on multiple ports for a mobile device, kinda defeats the purpose. Besides, the writing has been on the wall for awhile, everything is going wireless or cloud anyway.

The Macbook is an amazing experience, a wonderful place in the middle of my computing needs. It almost seems impossible at times I'm using a computer, given its ligthness, retina screen, and great trackboard.

Of course, to each his or her own, and that is why Apple offers a range of computing choices.

I wonder if this computer is powerful enough for watching HD movies or using google earth 3D view? You need fast CPU and GPU for watching HD movies or using google earth 3D view?
Not anymore.

The revised video engine now decodes H.265/HEVC completely in hardware and thereby much more efficiently than before.

Which isn't to say that it's a spectacular video chipset-- in fact, it's deep in notebookcheck's "Class 4", right behind the ipad A9...

So why is it still no one here is answering how does this Macbook compared to the Macbook Air? How much faster is the Macbook Air? Be it 20% faster or like two or three times faster?

The Macbook Air has i5 processor.

That is what we want to know here.

I have a feeling the next Macbook Pro 13" this June 2016 will be very very close to the size of the current Macbook Air

We will see a weight reduction from 2.5 to 2 lbs

All Apple had to do was literally remove the bezels of the Macbook Air 13 and put a Retina 14" screen and replace the touchpad with the new kind with force touch and you have a great computer

the Macbook is an idiotic product and all those hoping for a price cut that will never happen as then it will cannibalize the iPad Pro big model sales

I wouldn't touch this laptop with a 10 foot pole

I hope Apple updates its Pro lineup otherwise I'm stuck with this 2014 Air for another year, i just can NOT tolerate this trash screen any longer

I have older Macbook pro that is 6 years old and well I can watch HD movies or be using google earth 3D view!! Some times the computer can get little hot if I'm watching HD clips on youtube.

Is the computer slow? No!! But it can slow now a bit some times watching lot of HD clips on youtube or using google earth 3D view.

And in the high 80 degrees weather using google earth 3D view or watching HD clips on youtube the computer can get bit hot.Not enough to burn you!!! But NOT so nice on your skin.

With this computer it could be overheating and get really hot.

Google earth and maps can get heavy. My late 2011 i7 runs up the fans often enough and it benchmarks at like 6 times the macbook.
My windows workstation even hiccups every now and then but much less noticeably than the laptop.

I think he realized that this laptop is not a true upgrade

Annual new products do not need to be upgrades. They just need to be a bit better deal than the competition's products for some small (profitable) portion of consumers. That keeps on paying for Apple R&D, so in maybe 5 years any replacement might look a lot better.

I'm waiting for a MacOS ARM laptop, if it appears it should be a huge improvement in battery life and GPU performance.

A computer that was never meant to have premium specs continues to not have them. Not exactly news. This computer never appealed to me in the first place, but I guess it's okay for what it is? Let's just bring on the Pros...

I think the issue is that this very underspec laptop costs as much as high end pro laptops from both Apple and PC vendors.

People who buy this are paying 1900$ for a laptop that will be out paced by a 400$ Dell from BestBuy. Yes you can make a case for build quality but you can still get a well made laptop for less than half the cost of this rMB.

The MacBook Air with an i5 is easily 2X faster, I would be comfortable saying it is likely even 3X faster.

That what I'm afraid of. I have 6 year old Macbook pro. It is 2.3 GHz Intel core i5 and 4GB RAM. It not slow but it can slow down a bit and get bit hot watching lot of HD clips on youtube or using lot of google earth 3D. And being in high 80 degrees weather to 90 degrees weather does not help the computer. The computer get hotter than air around me!!!

This computer like the Macbook air could be overheating and get really hot.

So you are telling me that apple giving you a laptop with a 480p webcam, DDR3 memory, and a slow m processor is something to be satisfied about. I am thinking about the consumer and not the investor, if you thought about the consumer, you would know that consumers expect more for their money. Guess the OP was right anything is amazing and satisfactory to some of you on this forum,....

If customers were satisfied with the first version then the new buyers should be happy about the upgraded model at the same price. If it doesn't fit your needs, buy the MBP. Personally I'm not a fan of this model, but if I was interested in buying one, I would rather have the uprgraded model over the original one.

Apple has dramatically changed from quality to just a lipstick on a pig kind of thing. Nice looking stuff from the outside but junk on the inside. Apple clearly forgot that Steve jobs said "we don't ship junk". Yeah great engineers that can't somehow fit 1 extra usb or 1080p camera. It's all on purpose.

And YOU clearly forgot that the hero you worship, Steve Jobs, did not include an extra USB port on the refresh of the original MacBook Air.

The horror! Jobs, of all people, putting lipstick on a pig!

Who the hell cares about the MBAir? the screen is so gross it's like having a beat up 1989 Honda Civic with a mustang V8 engine in it - no one would give two flying f's about it when you have to look at the piece of junk.

I love Apple but there is nothing here that couldn't have been released a year ago. In some cases, even longer. The 480p camera is the biggest head scratcher. I know Apple is all about the user experience and not necessarily the latest specs...but a 480p camera in 2016? Can't really cite user experience when the camera resolution is so grainy and slow.

A 14 inch version with 12 hour battery would be awesome.

Majority of people choose the 13 inch Air over the 11 inch Air, and I think they're missing out on a huge portion of the market.

The 13 inch MacBook Air is regarded as the greatest laptop ever made, with no worthy successor in the market right now :(
So true. Seriously, you cannot justify the rMB for a student over the 13 inch MBA, even it is still only broadwell. Flexibility, long battery life, and the screen is fine for that size too. The 11 inch screen is noticeably poorer than the 13 inch version, but otherwise is also good. But all round the 13 inch is the best. I bet it still outsells the rMB by multiples.

I like the Samsung Notebook 9 13.3".
1.85lbs, Skylake core i5, 8gb, 256gb, 13.3" glossy but low reflective (lower than apple), 100% srgb, .5 inch thick (same as macbook at it's thickest) barely an inch longer and wider with a fair bit more screen, 7.5 hour average battery.
Review from mobiletechreview (whom I trust) has nothing but good things to say.

Havier, bigger and with 2.5 hours less battery.
30Wh battery vs 41Wh battery of the MacBook which is smaller.

Teardown reveals less classy construction.

Not good at all.

I will concede that Apple's laptop lineup seems muddled right now, but some of the criticism of the MacBook seems to miss the point. I haven't had the urge to stick something in one of the holes on the side of my MacBook Air for at least two years (other than a power cord when needed), but I have on occasion wished that it were thinner and that it had a better display. You know, like this computer. Your priorities may differ and that's why Apple sells other machines.
