This is just dissapointing.

- No wifi 6.
- No 14".
- No upgrade in the graphics department (still uses iris plus), is that a pro device for creators?
- Base model still uses intel 8th generation.
- Same bezzels
- 4 cores cpu

Worth the update? definetely not,
Who is going to buy this machine? People who were planning to buy the previous 2019 but wanted a bigger ssd and better keyboard.

People who care more about the end experience than raw paper specs, I guess.

I need someone's advice quickly! I just bought a Macbook Pro in the UK a week ago on Barclays finance. I've literally finished setting it up over the weekend. My model came with 256GB storage (I didn't want the 128GB option).

I've now seen this new model announced today, which has the 512GB storage for the same price as I paid. What should I do?
  • Should I contact Apple to see if they can upgrade me?

    Or

  • Should I contact Barclays who I'm financing it through, and cancel my agreement? (it was all financed through the Apple website)
My only worry about contacting Barclays is that, if I cancel the agreement, and then try to purchase again, they might not accept me!?

I've had this MacBook for less that two weeks, and really don't want to lose out here. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!
Return it to Apple immediately and contact Apple customer service to get return instructions!

Well not really. The 10th Gen CPU's in the high end 13" is much more powerful than the 8th gen version. And the Iris Pro graphics slaughter the 8th Gen Iris.

If you have a 2018 MBP then there's no reason to upgrade. Anyone with something older now has a decent option. Plus it has a proper keyboard unlike that mickey mouse butterfly crap.

The base Air comes with a 10th gen CPU. I would be curious how it compares to the base Pro.

Not trolling, but there really doesn’t seem to be a dramatic difference between the new 13” MBP and a well-fitted MBA.
- Modest CPU speed bump
- Bigger storage & RAM ceilings
- Marginally better graphics
- Two more TB3 ports
- Touch Bar (I like it, some don’t)
- 100 more nits of brightness (shrug)
- An hour less battery life
- 61W instead of 30W charging brick (another shrug...bricks are cheap)

The price difference between them for those considering both will be around $600-800, so it’ll probably come down to how many peripherals you want to connect (yes, there are are TB3 hubs but they’ll burn a third of that price difference), the RAM ceiling (not user upgradeable), questionably the TB, and whether or not those are worth that cash.

I may still get the new MBP because my purchasing philosophy is to max out my laptop whenever I buy one (this is why I’ve been good with my 2012 MBP). But it’s closer than I expected. Our household workhorse is our maxed-out new Mini and we’re redoing our kitchen this year, so I may just hold on to my 2012 MBP a little longer and see what happens.

You should return it. Absolutely. If it was me I'd want the improved CPUs and storage and cheaper RAM.
It might be a hassle especially on the financing but can you find a different bank/lender who you can get financing from? Or possibly a new credit card which could offer you some introductory benefit?

Now that my excitement has calmed down a bit. Wondering what I should do here.

A full redesign isn’t coming until next year at this point. Apple won’t update the lower end specs to a 14” or any other other rumored specs in 2020.

I think it depends upon your needs and what you currently have. If you can't do your work with your current laptop, or if it's not reliable, make a purchase.

It it's meeting your needs and can rely on it, why not wait?

Looks like the low and mid range machines only have two USB / Thunderbolt ports....

EDIT : thought the prior mid range 13" came with 4 ports...

Aren't there 30 days return in the UK? Not sure what model you are using but if it is a better deal personally I would return it.

And assuming you paid at Apple Store and making the financing over there, shouldn't it be Apple to cancel the agreement?

hhaha what a joke...

thats right reuse old form factor that was not sold..

still 720p camera jokes

waiting on ARM or when really 14" comes out

Why is Apple so slow to include Wi-Fi 6 in its laptops? Are they waiting to switch to A-series processors to do it?

Disappointed.
I expected at least Wifi 6 and the smaller bezels since that was to be expected after the MBP16 reveal.

I've been waiting for years for a proper update to my MBA 2015. First the non-trustworthy keyboard, then the joke with 7W CPUs, now again very little progress with the MBP, too.

So I'll wait longer. If Apple doesn't want my money, fine by me.

Silly Apple, Intel’s for kids!

The grown ups want AMD.

wow, they still selling 8th gen processors for base/mid level option as "new" options. At least the keyboard will be improved. $1800 min for the 10th gen i5 processor option... Ouch
Don't be fooled.
The two entry-level models are still on 8th gen CPUs at the same prices; meaning you have to pay more now to get the 10th gen.

I wouldn’t pay more for the 10th Gen CPU, unless you need / want the GPU improvement. The CPU is really no better than higher end 8th Gen CPUs.

i think they’ve been on a roll with the air and se2 pricing and features wise

this is a blunder tho. Not much exciting and a serious price gouge
The price for a 16gb 1tb storage is now $1,999. I paid $2,699 for that configuration (albeit with an i7 processor), so I think the high end base model is a bargain for $1,999. Upgrading to the i7 takes it to $2,199, still $500 cheaper than what I paid back in February for an identical configuration.

Yep, contact Apple, they should let you send that one back in exchange for the new one as you're in the 2 week return period :)
It can't hurt to ask, but yeah the Barclays Finance aspect might be difficult. Usually they'd have a 'no questions asked' returns policy, and I'm sure they still do even in your circumstance, but it's worth clarifying with them and Barclays beforehand whether a return would impact your ability to get it again. It's done based on a credit check of course, but depending on how they classify your return (it wasn't like you just couldn't pay according to the agreement you signed) it might not show up at all and then wouldn't impact your ability to do it again.
Return it to Apple immediately and contact Apple customer service to get return instructions!

Thanks ALL!! I'm going to contact them RIGHT NOW!

LOL. Wish me luck 😀

The base Pro will crush it as it has a 15W CPU as opposed to a weedy max 12W low power chip in the MBA.

Depends what you are doing though. If it's just basic productivity then the MBA will be ok.

That is good to know, and the answer I was looking for. I see 10th gen vs 8th gen and immediately assume the 10th will be better.

I'd still rather have a lower voltage newer generation processor than a higher voltage two generations behind processor personally. Faster ram too.

Old tech is old tech. As long as you are ok with the power tier processor that's in it and the concessions that come with it.
