An incredible amount of fun was had in mid 2020 with this thread:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ipad-pro-shipping-thread.2244618/page-73 I jumped in around Page 73 and lasted through page 89. That was when the iPad Pro 2020 edition was 6 weeks from order to shipping even though they'd been out for 5 or so months at the time. Now that we're further in to the pandemic than that, some supply chain has shifted, and in many cases it's much much worse. I'll be very interested in seeing if what happened last time (delivery on first day of window) happens this time too, or if my "preparing to ship" on my custom order means it'll be here earlier. It's all contingent on whether or not it's coming from China and how long things remain in customs.
In this thread I:
1) Commiserated with others over the long, long wait times in the processing your order stage. (Again, the world hadn't really opened up yet so that was to be expected)
2) Learned about Flightaware.com where people can start tracking commercial FedEx and UPS flights (among others) - essentially, if you're in Louisville (for example) you can see all the UPS flights going out of there to estimate where it's going next. (Another side note: At that point UPS flights didn't fly on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, or Mondays which meant everyone saw their stuff get to Kentucky, did a silent cheer, and then waited five days for the next flight out)
3) Made many new friends ?
Everything I've ever ordered from Apple has followed the "under promise and over deliver" shipping windows except for that iPad Pro mid-Pandemic. Time to see how quickly it all comes together with supply bottlenecks at every port of entry to the United States.
All that said, I've shipped this one to work to ensure I get it in the morning.
