I wasn't expecting built to order MBP's to be preparing to / being shipped this soon.

I order mine within 2 minutes of the orders opening (not knowing what colour I ordered lol) and it slipped back a couple of days, now its going to the end of November and into December.
quite sure you were significantly late and not just by 2 minutes as you claim. I was at least 3 minutes late and my delivery date is 26th Oct. Specs: 16 inch, M1 Max, 64GB and 2 TB

How long do they stay in preparing to dispatch until its shipped? I'm so impatient lol.

It went to preparing to dispatch on Friday afternoon (UK)

I'm guessing built to order Macbook's ship from china.

I just looked it up and it says it usually takes 2 to 3 business days to go from preparing to ship to shipped.

So im thinking Monday or Tuesday for mine fingers crossed .

Are you located in the USA or are you in another country? It seems the shipped status is a little delayed, my 16 MBP already shipped and just arrived in Anchorage AK
Located in the USA, Texas in fact.. so far nothing has showed up on my UPS or Fedex apps saying a shipment has been created either.

Hmmm that’s interesting, well I know it’s being shipped through UPS well at least for most of the people I’ve talked to, you’ve created a UPS my choice account? With you’re address any everything? Was you’re delivery date the 26th?

They won't be shipping to me. What a hideous design. And a notch in a laptop, but no Face ID? Are you kidding me??? Look how quickly they are rolling back the terrible design decision around the Safari tab colouring. Hardware design decisions are not so easily reversed. They need to get Ive back ASAP before they do something terminal.

Of course the saving grace will be the incredible M1 Pro and M1 Max, and for these alone I predict the laptops will sell well. If you are desperately waiting for yours I hope you don't have to wait too long!
Chuckle, eye of beholder my friend, eye of the beholder. The end of that damned track replacement for good old f-keys, a decent keyboard, great camera, thin bezel, wonderful cooling, great engineering … they will be shipping one to me.

yeah yeah ok, go on and show off to the rest of MR that you can afford top of the range M1 mac pro's, just had to make it known to everyone didn't you.
No, because nobody on here has any idea who I am. So Durafab‘s company can afford a computer. Wow. The point is, that if this is part of your business, it’s just another expense, and not a very big one. We grabbed several, and when the M1 pro comes out we’ll get several of those without blinking. They will be completely written off and expensed. For many people I know these are a rounding error. Computers are not anywhere near a major expense. That’s who apple is targeting with these. Notice the word “Pro.” And the higher end models are for our Cinema 4D guy named Max. Notice the word “Max” on those. They are for him.

An incredible amount of fun was had in mid 2020 with this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ipad-pro-shipping-thread.2244618/page-73 I jumped in around Page 73 and lasted through page 89. That was when the iPad Pro 2020 edition was 6 weeks from order to shipping even though they'd been out for 5 or so months at the time. Now that we're further in to the pandemic than that, some supply chain has shifted, and in many cases it's much much worse. I'll be very interested in seeing if what happened last time (delivery on first day of window) happens this time too, or if my "preparing to ship" on my custom order means it'll be here earlier. It's all contingent on whether or not it's coming from China and how long things remain in customs.

In this thread I:

1) Commiserated with others over the long, long wait times in the processing your order stage. (Again, the world hadn't really opened up yet so that was to be expected)
2) Learned about Flightaware.com where people can start tracking commercial FedEx and UPS flights (among others) - essentially, if you're in Louisville (for example) you can see all the UPS flights going out of there to estimate where it's going next. (Another side note: At that point UPS flights didn't fly on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, or Mondays which meant everyone saw their stuff get to Kentucky, did a silent cheer, and then waited five days for the next flight out)
3) Made many new friends ?

Everything I've ever ordered from Apple has followed the "under promise and over deliver" shipping windows except for that iPad Pro mid-Pandemic. Time to see how quickly it all comes together with supply bottlenecks at every port of entry to the United States.

All that said, I've shipped this one to work to ensure I get it in the morning.

What does ‘preparing to ship’ even mean in practical terms? Mines been preparing to ship since Thursday for delivery Tuesday. That’s a lot of preparation for one box, and I don’t think I ordered gift wrap. I picture these people gathered around it making sure that the tape is exactly right, all the spelling and grammar on the label is ok, etc.

I assumed it was something along these lines:

Print label

Place Macbook Pro box in shipping box

Adhere label to shipping box

Realize it's crooked and therefore not up to Apple standards

Print new label

Throw old shipping box away.

Gaze for a few minutes at the "Apple cares about the environment" posters

Put MBP Box in new shipping box

Adhere new label to new shipping box

Realize it's still crooked

Go on break

Start again.

But I like your tape/spelling/grammar committee idea too.

Mine has said preparing to ship since Thursday but it’s actually already arrived in the states for me, it’s in Louisville KY I was able to find this by signing up for UPS my choice so clearly it’s just delayed on apples end lol

I'm waiting for reviews on Monday. Then I will decide between the M1 Air and 14". If I go with the 14" I'll just do instore pick up on launch day (I'm guessing most Apple stores will have the base 14" on launch).

Leaning to the 14", though I can spec out the Air to match the base 14" (16 GB/512 GB) and add the Pro Apps bundle for $322 less than the 14" with no Pro apps. Hmmm.

Basically then comes down to nicer/larger screen + slightly faster processor/GPU vs more portable and longer lasting battery. + Pro apps.
Good luck dude, not sure about available stock on release date.

I was late ordering mine, the original delivery estimate was December 1 - 9. I'm located in Canada BTW. I checked the order status today in the Apple Store app and was pleasantly surprised that the date was brought forward to November 18 - 24. I ordered:

MBP 16"
Apple M1 Max with 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
32GB unified memory
140W USB-C Power Adapter
1TB SSD storage

So for those who missed the early preorder shipping, check your status to see if the estimate has been brought forward. I'm guessing that Apple was able to get components to be delivered earlier than expected.
