But 32GB requires using desktop-class RAM, I believe even with Kaby Lake, so the purported model would get worse battery life. Maybe they decided the trade-off wasn't worth it in Skylake but is for Kaby Lake since the latter is more efficient.

Maybe they should have waited a bit longer and made sure the MacBook Pro was a great product on release. More evidence that Apple have no idea what they're doing.

The biggest problem a Pro will encounter

Get a grip. If the biggest criticism you have of the new ports is that you can't plug in an iOS device to charge it, just maybe it's not the right computer for you. However for other users it's much better than previous gens with what it can do – the controller for your static workstation. In fact you need to use less wires than the previous generations, as everything comes to life just by plugging in one cable, rather than 10.

So it's all a matter of perspective, really. It's either the most limited or most expandable MacBook Pro, depending solely on how restricted your way of thinking is.
It's not that you can't plug in iOS devices because of the elimination of legacy ports, it's that you can't plug in OTHER devices without the use of dongles, devices pro users use daily. Pros are leaving the Mac platform on a daily basis because of decisions like this and it's really not all that surprising.

Don't be so daft, that's not what's happening here. The MacBook Pro hadn't been updated for over a year before this one came out. To release another version less than a year after everybody has invested in the new machines is ridiculous. Especially as a lot of those people wanted 32GB of RAM but had to settle. The machine is already over priced, can't imagine what they're charging for 32GB of RAM. Considering Apple are the only company on Earth who think RAM sticks are £/$500 each!

Can I see the raw data from the poll you created that said EVERYONE bought the new 2016 MBP and A LOT OF people wanted 32GB of RAM? Apple must be doing something right if EVERYONE bought a new MBP. They've got to be backordered for a least a year...

It's okay. The original poster is an Apple sympathiser. Those who can't see the company have lost its way and holding on to the undeserved ego it still has. They're a blinkered people.

Interesting that you picked those parts of my comment to reply to. Thanks m8

I'd be pretty p**sed if I'd waited and forked out for a new redesigned MacBook Pro, overpriced as it is for just 16GB RAM, then they release an option for 32GB later in the year because they couldn't be bothered to on launch? Apple's screwing of customers knows no bounds. ;)

Consider all of us that actually need the machine now. Many can't wait a year.

Additionally, the performance gains I'm seeing right now with the new MBP more than make up the price of buying a new one in a year, just as they have every year.

Also remember that 99% of those that buy these things don't even have a need for 16GB of RAM, much less 32GB.

You claimed that EVERYONE bought a new MacBook Pro and that A LOT OF people wanted 32GB of RAM. Is that really true or just trumped up claims to make your not-so-pointed point?

I see this as a positive rumor. Apple is coming to their senses and, apparently, taking Mac seriously, for the moment at least. I bought one of the newest MBP 15" laptops. I do NOT see this rumored upgrade as a negative. Keep moving forward. I always buy in a static moment of competition. I can never play the game of ... if only I had waited. Why wait? I have work to do today. This is a dynamic industry for the most part, Apple's contribution in recent years notwithstanding. ;-)

There was some talk late last year of those new MBPs not being able to get reasonable battery life with more than 16GB of RAM. So presumably KabyLake and/or other changes or optimizations will address that limitation in the next MBPs.

Fwiw, I would be miffed too if I had shelled out >3k for a top tier Pro laptop, and rumors for the improvements I had wanted in the first place started flying soon after.

By then, Windows 10 notebooks will offer 64 GB DDR4 while Mac notebooks will be offering DDR3 lower power. Still technologically behind. Then again, the storage is so fast these days, unless you are running large data sets, not every user will demand this.

Well, no. If this article is correct, then some variant of the 2017 MacBook Pro will be offering 32GB DDR4 (it would have to be DDR4 as I believe DDR3 tops out at 16GB). As Kaby Lake doesn't support LPDDR4, it'll put the Mac on par with Windows 10 machines. I reckon Windows laptops packing 64GB RAM will be few and far between.

You're buying a new MacBook Pro every year? I think you're probably an exception.

Hey let's not get political.

If you're disappointed when something new and better comes along six months after you buy any kind of technology, you're in for a lifetime of disappointment. That's just how tech works. Buy the best you can afford when you need it, and enjoy it until you need something better.

Did you just call the 2016 MacBook Pro the best you can afford? If it was about getting the best you can afford, you wouldn't be buying a 2016 MacBook Pro. You'd also have a lot of money left over.

It's more that Apple release a product, then 8 months later release a new version where it's like 'This is what we should have done in the first place. But this is so much more courageous. Money pls lol Tim wants a new yacht.'

It's too little too late. It's the late release that I'm not happy about. If you've just invested in a new MacBook Pro, that you plan to last you years, having already waited years to upgrade because they brought out nothing decent, and you wanted 32GB of RAM but had to settle - you'd be pretty annoyed right now, cause there's nothing you can do about it.
Probably one shouldn't have bought the machine in the 1st place. I have a 2011 machine that's dire for replacement. But I just couldn't convince myself to buy any of these new half-assed machines.

Hope it is correct.

Bad optics to have JUST introduced new machines with chips that were replaced by the supplier just a couple of months later, and to have your competition already using them . . .
