I'd be pretty p**sed if I'd waited and forked out for a new redesigned MacBook Pro, overpriced as it is for just 16GB RAM, then they release an option for 32GB later in the year because they couldn't be bothered to on launch? Apple's screwing of customers knows no bounds. ;)

Really no one to blame but yourself. If the computer you want is not for sale by Apple. Buy from the place it is available.

I skipped this generation MacBook Pro. Maybe I'll change my mind later

Later in 2018, Apple will update the 2017 MacBook Pro with performance improvements.

The next generation MacBook will truly be a MacBook Air replacement (other than ports).
If Apple are listening to consumers this time, hopefully we'll get noticeably better graphics. And I wonder if some 13" models will come with 16GB standard.... probably not.

And both the 12" MacBook and 13" MacBook Pro with function keys will be discounted.

In my opinion they need a full MacBook tier rebranding. The 15" is the true 'Pro' machine, and if they can't fit similar internals in the 13" then they should create a 14" Pro. Then have the 12" and 13" sizes for the MacBook, with the larger model having the 15W processor and being slightly thicker.
Gross. I'm glad Apple doesn't do any of that.

Probably one shouldn't have bought the machine in the 1st place. I have a 2011 machine that's dire for replacement. But I just couldn't convince myself to buy any of these new half-assed machines.

I didn't buy one. Sitting on my original Retina MacBook Pro 15" still. This thing is still killing it, going strong. I saw through the steaming pile of trash that is the 2016 MBP long before I got anywhere near buying one. It also costs about 3 times as much as I paid for mine, for similar spec.

A step in the right direction. 64GB RAM would be better. These are Pro machines after all. Adding the old ports and a Magsafe is probably not gonna happen. Wanna make the Pros really happy? Offer these high-end machines WITHOUT the Touchbar as well. The least you can do Apple. o_O

I didn't buy one. Mid-2012 15" rMBP here. Still killing it. Still going strong. Back when MacBook Pro was reasonably priced and spec'd.

Too little, too late for me. Mostly too late.

If this came out last year, instead of focusing on developing a touch bar that nobody asked for and doesn't use, I might not have switched out my MacBook Pro for a different brand.

But who knows. Maybe I'll be back when it's time for a new laptop.

Replacing a USB 3 port with a Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port, capable of 40Gb/s throughput and can be transformed or daisy chained into any other port is somehow… less 'pro'?

By its very definition it's more adaptable, faster, and standardised (which will be vastly beneficial in the future). Apple frequently make leaps like this and aggressively cut legacy stuff. It always annoys users but in hindsight, the decisions are almost always right. I believe time will prove you to be wrong on this occasion.
Your conflating speeds & feeds "pro" with connectivity options of today's Pro users.
Even the 2012 nMBP carried over the FW800 port alongside a newer Thunderbolt & USB 3.0 port, not to mention a GigE port.

The 2012 MBPs were probably the most Pro machines ever. Plenty of legacy & new ports and everything was swappable:
battery, RAM, HDD. Everything but the CPU.

What's wong with repeating the same with newer tech?

32GB RAM would probably be an upgrade option. So, at least there will still be something for every one to complain about.

Then not much too complain I guess ;-). I'll wait for the new updated mbp(pro) and see if it's less a trash. I certainly hope it will not be more expensive then the current overpriced ****... but who knows Apple these days??

I'm going to buy the new MBP with 32GB of RAM and post up at Starbucks. I'm going to troll every 8/16GB MBP owner that shows up. I will haughtily laugh and derisively side eye their pedestrian laptops. I will feast on their tears of envy while I open 178,215 tabs... in Chrome.

"But Mustang, how will you know if they have the "poors" machine?"

Easy. I will grab them by the Siri and make them show me.

Oh, it'll be more expensive for sure. Apple see their customers coming now. It's all about sponging the most amount of money out of unintelligent consumers.

Eww who uses Siri

Would love to see how many people who bought the 2016 model will still defend their already outdated $4000 machines :D

Am I the only person sad to see the MacBook Air go away? I really like the design and wish Apple would have refreshed it. Also like the price point.
Yes a retina MacBook Air would be nice. I guess the current MacBook 12" is what is the mba successor- but with only 1 port this is not really an option for me. Also CPU of the MBA was much better at its time then the current MacBook 12". Also I am pretty sad to see the MagSafe gone....

Whew. I was tempted by the 2016 models because I'm overdue for an upgrade, but glad I waited. I could probably get by on 16 GB RAM, but I'll feel a lot more comfortable with 32. When you keep your machines for 4-6 years, it's always good to overestimate what you'll need in the future instead of thinking about how it'll work for you right now.

And actually, I might end up getting both a MacBook and a 15" Pro. 16 GB on the MB and 32 GB on the Pro sounds pretty good.

Would be nice if the higher-end models get dedicated GPUs that were a little more impressive. I'm not asking for a high-end, desktop-class GPU, but the Radeon 400-series that we have now are really not great, not for the price of a machine that is pushing $3,000.

Ugh, maybe I should just buy a MacBook Pro. I was holding off to see if the MacBook was getting the Touch Bar with Touch ID. Doesn't sound like it's getting it. I prefer the MacBook just because it's smaller and more portable but even the new MBP's are more portable than my '12 rMBP.

Edit: Please stop replying. I'm bored of reading responses now.

If something like that pee's you off, then you must be in a perpetually pee'd off state.
