Except people with Windows computers all use HDMI cables. So, a person with a Mac has to always remember to bring a stupid dongle with them. Now, they can just plug the same cable directly into their Mac like any normal person with a Windows laptop does.
Have you been in a conference room recently?

Each cable (nominally HDMI I admit) has a keyring of dongles (HDMI to DP, mDP etc.) you can choose to connect whatever machine you need.

I worked for a major airline at their south eastern campus and that was not the case. Just HDMI or VGA cables.

Yeah really, conference rooms (at least the ones at my place of work) have solved this problem a while ago.

I really can't believe they put an HDMI port on there, it's a waste of space in all honesty. But hey, there are three other TB ports to use.

"140W power brick"

Huh? I thought the M1 chip was more efficient. What happened? Or is that for the 32 CPU core config... > 50 cores is a lot of cores...

They operate on the goodwill they earned in past. It takes a long time to burn off a reputation and a rabid/fanatic base. They haven't demonstrated good UI design knowledge since prior to 2013, but they still have a reputation for great UI design. People get used to thinking a thing about a person or company, and forget to update their notions. A well-earned reputation can stick around even well past the time when it is no longer worthy. This new MacBook Pro gives me a slight bit of optimism, though. Time will tell.
You’re definitely right. I have to say that if I didn’t experience Apple during the golden era when Steve Jobs was there I’m not sure if I’d buy something from Apple today based on their overall performance and image that doesn’t speak to me at all.

Which one of the ports that you enumerated were integrated in the Mac in the past 5 years before today’s MacBook Pros were announced?

Here's hoping the MacBook Air goes for as thin and light as you can make a powerful computer, to satisfy those of us who need a good enough computer that is light enough to carry everywhere.

To darn expensive. Was considering getting my first Apple laptop. I use Apple products for everything else but with an investor mindset I can’t see dropping that kind of money two thousand dollars for 14 inch screen. Uggh!
You can buy a MacBook Air for under $1,000

Apple adds a SD card reader and yet the only SD cards I have are micro. So I still need a dongle 🤣. But hey, let’s go back to 2008 for 25% of users who ”think” it was the best because it was their first Apple computer. Time to wake up. Those days are in the past.
You can use an adapter to full size one.

Preordered 16" M1max/32GB memory! Would have specced it up to 2TB but the delivery lead-time blows out to 5-6 weeks and to 6-8 weeks for 64gb memory!

Is the SDXC card slot USH-ii? I can't find any specs for it. UHS-i would be a poor choice and my camera uses UHS-ii. Fantastic that it is included as well as HDMI.
=> I'm amazed that I might be able to get by without any dongles!

Checking the changes from my 15" 2013 MBP (specced up) that I am (finally) updating from... :)
- function keys -> check
- HDMI and SD card -> check
- Magsafe -> check

I don't mind the thickness, but I'm not sure I love the design. The black keyboard area? Also, the curves, the feet and the notch don't look great either. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I don't know why they chose this design.

I don't care, still thinner than 90% of Windows machines and I need this system. Worth the wait. Pulled the trigger on the top of the line model fully loaded
What Windows machines have you been looking at?

Yes I know, but that still requires something else to carry. The point of adding ports is to remove that need. If a adapter is still required, the port is useless.
If you needed to use a full-size card, you wouldn’t be able to use an adapter for a micro-size slot, right? So, are you advocating for both slot sizes?

Now they can make upgrades to the size every year and say "xx% thinner and lighter!"

The notch really isn't "HIDEOUS" though is it - you've just moved your menu bar up a bit and now you've got a bigger screen, you wont' even notice it, it makes use of previously wasted space.
Yes, because the menu bar took up so much space. 🙄

About the ports. For me, Apple made me buy all the USB-C to ?? dongles I needed over the past 5 years. Now that I have the dongles, why would I want the HDMI and SD ports again?

Uh, because it's faster than using the dongles? If you really want though, you can use the TB ports and dongles with the new MBP 😉
