Wow! Looks dumb, but I'll be using this glove from now on. Very comfy. BTW, I'm serious, I'm not being sarcastic.

There's gotta be a way to fab some kind of "bumper".

I'm using the glove. I've had this problem since 2006 on the MBP. OP is prolly like me. I rest my right hand right on the edge while using the trackpad. If I don't rest my right hand, my arm will get tired holding it up.

Everyone has there own ergos. Not right or wrong.

People are always telling me my ways are goofy, that's why I use Karl as my Avatar. If you haven't discovered Karl Pilkington yet.... aahhhh look into it... have fun. The best of it is The Ricky Gervais show on HBO. TPB if you must. And don't you hall monitors go running to tell teacher you little weenies, you know who you are.

Had the same problem

Same problem here, was really wrestling with the machine at first, as I write a couple thousand words a day.

I must say, after a while I got used to the edges, and don't even notice them any more. You adapt in ways that can go unnoticed. I'd give it a month or so and see if you don't get accustomed to the design. It's not advisable to file these machines down, as they have a thin coating on them.

Right. It may be carved from a single block, but it is very, very thin. And there is a micro-coating.

And, although it may be slightly less sharp, it may still be too sharp for you. If you depend on resale value to help you leap to the next purchase - DO NOT FILE.

The rant guy in the video is wealthy - he don't care about no $1200. You prolly do.

Helpful, I'll see if I get used to it.

Also helpful. It would be nice to maintain the value of the machine. You're the second person to bring up Karl on Tuesday (yesterday), he's a funny guy!

My 2011 15" does not have sharp edges at all. I have rather large hands so maybe that helps but I have not had any comfort problems.

I gotta hold back from "very happy" due to the sharp edges near the trackpad (all around really). When I rest the side of my palm on the edge of the machine to let my fingers dance around the very nice multi touch trackpad, after a few minutes my hand hurts. My palm is pressing on a sharp metal edge. I can appreciate the beauty of the device, and it's very functional, but what can be done about this sharp edge thing?

I had the same with a brand new MBP, and the problem just disappeared after a while. Could be whatever edge there is gets smoothed down quickly when in use.

speck case is brilliant

i also had this problem, and unlike some of the rude and catty &%&%^ on here, i did try to change how i rested my wrists on the MBP, but this was a) not comfortable and b) really slowed my productivty.

I npw have a wireless keyboard and trackpad, connected by the 12-south wand thingy.. the MBP sits on a justmobil xstand XL stand

i can sit on my couch and use the wireless keyboard + trackpad

have you considered looking for a rubber case on eBay, you can pick them up reallllly cheap? then you dont have to change anything

The OP specifically mentioned the problem while using the trackpad, not typing.

<<When I rest the side of my palm on the edge of the machine to let my fingers dance around the very nice multi touch trackpad, after a few minutes my hand hurts.>>

Same here. I don't have the problem while typing, just while resting the hand there so I can use the track pad.

So please dispense with the typing ergo recommendations.

I might check out the speckcase, thanks! NickFinn's link is full of ideas for those of you who are also suffering.

You guys rock! My faith in MR is restored. I was a little let down by some of the less than helpful comments. I haven't been active here for a while and I was a little worried the community had changed for the worse. Glad to see it's still full of helpful folks!

I personally like the sharp edges. The Macbook Pro can serve as a serious blunt force weapon in an emergency :D

I often use it on my lap while I'm on the couch or a recliner

Interesting. When I have it on my lap, I don't have that issue. My wrists rest comfortably on top. I have the 15" though, are you on the 13"?

Nice! If I set up at a table, I'm doing that.

check this link out

it's from eBay, a cover that fits around the trackpad and covers all under the keyboard, hard to describe exactly :)

cheap too!!

eBay has saved me so many times!
Excellent. This is worth a try. 15 bucks, not bad.

It's a 13 inch model, attaching pic to help explain the position. Sitting on a recliner. (I realize the picture is upside down, I have no idea why, but I'm leavin' it!)

@Thread starter, you are not the only one.

I've had my MacBook Pro 15" for two months now, and I am experiencing the same issues. I had the black MacBook for 4 years without any problems, but this new laptop is a real wrist killer.

At first I thought it was only an issue when sitting laid back in the couch, but working at a normal table is equally painful.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

What about buying a magic trackpad? I know it's not the ideal solution and they're not cheap but it's got to be cheaper than the amount of value you'd lose on your laptop if you filed the edge off!
