Are the cell models universal or do I have to be careful to get one that works with my US carrier? I called T-Mobile, but they didn't have a stock date.

Based on Imore, you are all set choosing any model/carrier
"Best of all, Apple's doing all of this on a single modem, not two different modems like iPhone 7. That means, as long as you buy an LTE iPad Pro, you can use it on Verizon and Sprint in the U.S.A, or any GSM carrier around the world"

Except for compactness. The Mini fits in my jacket pocket and even the back pockets of 5.11 pants. Fits in one hand. Lightweight and small for reading.

I would like to see an updated Mini.

I still think there is a large demographic who is passionate about the Mini. Ultimately, Apple seems to be pulling further away from the Mini, especially with the latest iPad Pro releases and 9.7 iPad in March.

The Mini doesn't necessarily offer the latest specifications, but it clearly favors in size and portability. That's where it matters for most.

I guess I don't see the advantage. I use my iPhone 7 Plus when I'm on the go and primarily use my iPad at home. The Mini's screen isn't larger than the 7 Plus enough to make me want to have one. It feels superfluous.

Meanwhile the 9.7" iPad is large enough to make it worth reaching for when you want to read or watch videos, etc. for an extended time.

I guess my usage patterns differ from yours though.

I've been around computers for long enough to remember that we used to pay a huge premium for compactness! So I have never really thought of the iPad Mini as a "cheap" or "budget" device like many people do.

I would actually pay same dollar for the Mini as the full size iPad, provided it was every bit as good. I think the closest we came to that was the iPad Mini 2 being almost exactly the same as the iPad Air, except for size.

the problem with mini is, Apple have to redesign the interface to make it fit to 7.9 inch. The current UI is simply a zoomed out version of regular 9.7 inch, making icons and texts too small to read. Even you could adjust the font size in system, it's not able to adjust a lot of system default icon and text

Just picked up a 12.9 wifi 256gb space gray at 5th Avenue Manhattan. The only accessory they did not have for that size is the leather slip case.

The screen refresh rate is amazing and this 2nd gen 12.9 feels a lot lighter than the first gen did. Looking forward to setting up properly tonight and drawing again.

Really? They didn't mention any weight loss for the 12.9. That would be great, if true. I love my 12.9 which has become my primary device (I use it even more than my new 15" MBP), but I'm tempted to go for the new 10.5 cos the 12.9 can get a tad heavy after a while.

Why in the heck would they make the bezels smaller? The existing iPad bezels were already kind of hard to hold onto without covering the screen. Now it's going to be even harder.

I don't get the hate on bezels, especially in this forum. You need to be able to HOLD your devices; it's nice to be able to without your fingers covering the screen.

THIS.

I hate the already-narrow bezels on my iPad Air. The supposedly-smart system to reject unwanted touches on the screen is BS. I suffer from it every time I try, for instance, to read something on Wired magazine and experience an unwanted turn of the page.

The current system is far from perfect, and every time they make the bezels narrower they are making it worse.

Someone here in the thread kindly pointed to the specs both: it's under 1.5 lbs now (677 grams as opposed to 719 grams); perhaps the internals were distributed in a different way? I do not know, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much easier it was to hold for me. I will not attempt one handed usage, but it definitely felt more comfortable for the few minutes I was setting up at the store.

I think you misunderstood my post. I don't own a Mini and That was exactly my point the Mini primarily offers portability over anything else. The Mini and iPod Touch have been ultimately consumed by the iPhone/Plus models.

Apple is straying away from the Mini primarily because the larger iPads offer more in terms
Of where they want it to be a PC replacement.

I Wouldn't say it's superflurous though. It would ultimately depend on the other devices the consumer owns. If the consumer owned a iPhone SE and they wanted the Mini, then it might make sense to own one, if they weren't interested in the larger iPads or the iPad Pro capabilities.

10.5 pro is BLAZING FAST, unbelievable.
can't understand if it's just the new display or the A10X.

I know, Ive got so many ipads and that I dont know what to do with them either. Apple continue to release ipads and I have to buy them all.

I always sell my old one on Craigslist to help fund the new one. I kind of thought everyone did this.

after one year waiting for the first pro app for my ipad pro 9.7 i was lucky that serif released affinity for iPad. after a few tests i think my iPad Pro is slower compared to my mbp 2012. Apple Photo integration is mhhh bad. But the main thing is ... IPad Pro is based on iOS. iOS is the main showstopper. So in my thoughts, a future iPad Pro should be based on macOS not on iOS.

Looking forward to trying one out with iOS11 on it, in the fall.

iOS 11 for the new iPad Pro's is going to be the real winner. John Gruber with Daringfireball is beta testing iOS 11 on the 10.5 iPad and stated the experience is outstanding this is what the iPad line needed.

10.5 inch iPad Pro looks really tempting,it will be solid upgrade from iPad Mini.

I stopped by the Apple store today and put my hands on one... still too large for my tastes. If there was a Mini version, then I'd have taken one home no question to replace my Mini2. I can't believe they didn't drop the price of the Mini4 to a price consistent with the new iPad.

Time to ditch the rMBP and go with one of these 10.5".

I've found zero use for the rMBP after building a 12-core hackintosh workstation.

I got my 10.5 in the mail today, i'm a happy camper. :)

Works great but i didn't have time to use the pencil yet.

iPad 10.5 gold, 256 GB wifi (with laser inscription)
That's the same one I got! But no inscription. I ordered mine from B&H to save 10% sales tax, and they won't have them in stock till next week. :(

Yes indeed! Love my mini, and would buy a mini Pro in a heartbeat!

About shipping gripes, my company has a few orders coming from Japan but they keep getting bumped by ash eruptions by Bogoslof in the Aleutians - Narita>Anchorage>Seattle/Portland - just like my Apple product orders (coming from China). Bogoslof is currently under a Red Alert Warning relative to an ash plume from an eruption, the latest plume height was unknown. I've been up since 4 am PST dealing with my expected delivery for some clients of mine, but "it is what it is…". Chill out, pilots are working their collective butts off to get us stuff from Asia… I want them home, safely and happy!

Bogoslof has been acting up for some time now. Grab a couple of (whatever you drink) and chill out.

I have had the mini since the very first day it was released. I haven't had a single "unwanted touch"

Pre-ordered from Best Buy, it appears they aren't going to have it today and haven't even given me an email notification or any other form of contact. Looks like I'll be making a trip to the Apple Store.

Same here!!!! What's going on?!??!
