Not talking about size (all humor aside!) Call me a nay sayer but the 24" M1 iMac screen is disappointing and does not compare to the clarity of the 27" 5K. The Specs say yes but my eyes say No. Fingers crossed the new 27" screen is >= to the old 5K 27 :)

I mean, it’s totally possible I just have weird taste in monitor size. That said, do we have any sales numbers on 32” monitors versus 27” and 24” sizes?

Not that I know of, but I'm just going by what I see and hear. I'm not denying that 27" and 24" might outsell larger displays, but I just don't think that the larger ones qualify as "niche" either. Like I said, the ideal thing would be for Apple to offer both sizes. I simply can't imagine that the larger ones would languish on the shelves while the smaller ones fly off the shelves.

From what I’ve seen in retail 24 and 27 in. displays sell the most. Gamers like the bigger screens when they can afford them, but they’re not the mainstream.

A 27in. AIO desktop makes far more sense than a 30-32in. for the mainstream market even if it’s a “pro” device.

The new 24 inch iMac doesn’t have Mini LED screens, and it’s price point is roughly the same as it has been for a while. You also don’t get as big of an SSD and only 8 graphic cores, and 8 GB memory.

My guess is that Apple wants to keep the 27 inch at close to the same starting price as well. 2 sources are giving opposite leaks about whether the 27 will have a Retina display or an upgraded Mini LED screen, and both are standing by their predictions. My guess is that to keep the starting cost near where it has been that Apple will do the same thing to the 27 inch that they did with the 24 inch. They might increase a component or 2 to what has become “Pro” levels but they may also just give you a bigger screen and an M1 (not an M1_Max). Or they might decide that they need to give people something more powerful than just a larger 24 inch. I think-I obviously don’t KNOW- that if they were to upgrade a component that they would go with a more powerful processor rather than a Mini-LED screen.

But they could just release a 27 inch that has the same technology as the newest 24 inch, just a bigger screen. Leaks up until today have suggested that there would be more to the 27 inch upgrade than there was to the 24 inch. At this point I think you see where future leaks go and ultimately wait for Apple’s announcement.

I'm still of the view that it will come in something like 30" or 32" (or, 27" and 30/32) and will believe this until the official announcement says otherwise.
Same. By slimming three of the four borders/bezels, Apple was able to increase the 21.5-inch iMac to 24-inch. If we assume the same, the 27-inch iMac display size would/could grow to 29.5-inch, call it 30-inch class.

By the way, I don’t expect the “Pro” suffix to return to the iMac lineup (or be added to the Mac mini series). However, with Apple launching the Retro Book err latest MBP, I am not willing to go as far as bet on my prediction.

It's going to be fiercely expensive, but amazing value compared to buying a mini LED monitor plus a mac mini. It'll be lovely, but who really needs a mini LED monitor, though?
I'm waiting for the M1 Pro Mini...
Yep use your own monitor and max out the Mini!

The 27-inch display makes sense. People have to understand this is an all-in-one machine. Consumers buy this to save space in the first place. If it were 32-inch, it would significantly reduce the number of desks it fits onto.

For the people that want larger displays, get the upcoming pro Mac mini with the Apple branded external display.
Thats what I'll get, the mini. I hope that Apple doesn't gimp the Mini though
at least gives it the same guts as the MacBooks but more would be even better!

I’m nervous it’s going to have a chin, a notch, white bezels, 4GB of RAM, and come in every color of the rainbow but not space grey. Let’s see if Apple can manage not to screw this one up.
99% certainty it will have a chin. Most likely it will be available in at least Silver and/or Space Gray. Whether it’s labeled Pro or not I suspect it will more likely have black bezels. I’m skeptical it will have the same colour offerings as the 24in. iMac—more likely not. It will definitely have at least 8GB RAM.

My guess is that it’ll have the same baseline specs as the 14in. MacBrook Pro: Mac M1 Pro, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM and price about $2000 US. So similar performance but in a different form.

Slimming the bezels was not all Apple needed to go from 21” to 24”. The frame is not the picture.

assuming Apple don't goof it up and make a stupid decision then this is the machine i will get! i was ready to buy an iMac when the redesigned ones appeared but 24" is too small for me. everything else was fine even the white bezels and chin that upsets some people.

I had misgivings about the white bezels and lack of front-facing logo at first, but holy heck do the new iMacs look slick in person. The press photos and Apple website really don’t do it justice, the white bezels look way better with the glass overlaying the whole front. I had to seriously talk myself down from getting one instead of a 14” MBP, since I already have an iMac and had a 10-year-old laptop I needed to replace.

Also, totally subjective personal taste, but I feel like the iMac would look way worse without a chin: more like a weird aftermarket monitor and less like a full computer. I adjust the angle of my iMac by the chin pretty often and can imagine it would get fingerprints all over it if it were all-screen.

The vast majority of negative feedback towards the new iMac design has been found on sites like these along with narrow viewed Youtubers. That negativity is far, far outweighed by the positive feedback from the intended consumers in the mainstream market.

Agreed on the desk and space consideration but look at the current 27” and remove/reduce the bezel and you get a bigger screen. Maybe 30”? ?

27inch,30 or 32 if it comes out I'll buy one straight away!! Can you imagine updating from 20inch 2008 model!! ??

if the maximum GPU power is at the level of the MacBook Pro with the M1 Max, then this is bad…
I would assume it will be the same.
Maybe, due to more cooling options, Apple can "add some GPU power"?
I sincerely hope so. M1 Max is superb for notebooks! And it's good for desktops. Not great.

Am I the only one here who just don’t understand the ”desk space” argument (never mind why a few diagonal inches would make a substantial difference in it)?

An iMac isn’t an iPad, it goes upward, it doesn’t lie on the desk at all. Apart from the stand it takes no desk space whatsoever, and by using a VESA mount or a clamp like some of the larger LG monitors, even the stand would be removed from the desk.

The argument is bizarre to me.
