although I doubt it's physically possible due to the reality distortion field, it would be hilarious if Steve hops up on stage and whips this out and says "and we decided that aluminum just didn't work, so we've went with a revolutionary glossy plastic back instead"

then everyone in the audience boos him off stage over fears of going back to the days of fearing touching your device lest you scratch it

IF it is plastic..he will "gloss" over the topic .....hee hee yes I said gloss :D

Probably say something like "the new design allows improved cell phone, wifi, and gps reception" The crowd won't boo..they will be all ooohs and aaaahs.

Really looks like a case or some film placed over the iPhone, especially in the 3rd photo. It's like the film is isn't quite sticking to the iPhone that well and pulling away...

Those chiming in that a "case" has to be thicker than the actual product have never obviously heard of a product called Photoshop... I hear it can do some amazing things when it comes to image manipulation. ;)

I'm gonna buy it anyway...

I'll be buying it anyway as well, since I decided when the original iPhone launched that I would wait for the second generation of it. But at the same time, I do like the fact that the current one doesn't scratch like the mirror finish back on the iPod touch or older iPods, and I would like that to carry over to the new one. Plus, the glossy finish seems like it would be more slippery in your hand, while the aluminum back had a little more grip.

Ehhh  I really hope the make the 3G iPhone all around matte black, with a glossy chrome Apple logo, and buttons or whatever else needs to be chrome. (the text on the back could be 'engraved')

• All around matte black (that means no chrome trim!)
• Slightly different case design/shape
• Chrome Apple logo
• Front camera for video chat
• Radio, IM, other features that have been begged for
• OLED
• 3G! ;D

I must admit that I completely am surprised at how sturdy my iPhone has held up since I bought it on launch day

I have dropped it numerous times and even put it in my pocket a lot with sharp things and outside of a small scratch on the screen and a few on the edges, it is still in great shape

I guess I expected a phone that was a little less protective but I am happy because of it! :D:apple::apple:

Apple also needs to get rid of the recessed headphone jack... C'mon apple? Are you still in kindergarten?

Amen to that, brother! The last thing we need to see is such a high tech product made availabe in a bunch of fruity, magically delicious colors. Glass and aluminum evoke class and sophistication. If it ain't broke don't try n fix it! If you want your expensive phone to look like a toy then that's what 3rd party cases are for!!

I could not agree more.

Can you do this and still have a mic?
mhhh.... i'm not sure, but I've seen many complaints about 3rd party headphones not working. I usually use my ear buds, but I have some big headphones that don't fit in the headphone jack.

Klipsch came out with great earphones that fit without an adaptor. I have the 'Image' and they sound incredible.

AppleInsider ran these same photos, saying they were prototypes sent to accessory makers. If that's the case, scratch all the complaints mentioned in here - button color doesn't matter, wonky Home button doesn't matter, blank back doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is size and placement of features.

This is not a "case" for the new iPhone, according to the rumor; it's the shell of the iPhone itself. Meaning, they obviously didn't send InCase and similar companies a fully working new iPhone. No need.

How VERY VERY VERY right you were!
