If you don't like the prices, complain to frog face (Farage) and mini-Trump (Boris Johnson). Not to Apple.

BTW. Frogface gets his salary as MEP paid in Euros. So unlike us, he actually has now 20% more money. For still doing not one bit of work for it, the parasite.

Apple raised the prices, not Farage and Johnson. But sure, go ahead and blame the Brexit campaigners rather than the people who are actually responsible for it all..

Not that it matters anyway, the pound will recover.

I know this is a joke about Apple's lack of tons of new features or whatever, but I think after the 5S major everyday performance improvements started to die down. I think technology just hit the point that, so long as botchy software isn't messing with things, an A7 is more than the average person needs anymore. Or at least I can hardly tell a difference between my 5S and iP7+ anyway performance-wise

It would be enough CPU power if weren't for those damn IOS updates to make the devices slower.

But Sharp copied Samsung with that design as Samsung was reducing bezels long before Aquos dropped on the market. And yes The Galaxy S8 is the only competent flagship on the market packed full of useful features
Sharp started this trend, Samsung copied. Really? well I buy what I think is useful. You can get a 3t for half the price and 90% of the features. Your sentence is proof of why Apple will never have issues selling iPhones at any price.

I dont give a hoot about what they do. As an Apple customer Apple has removed mid range devices from its lineup forcing me to choose between low end and high end
Yes they have and now you'll have decide. Spend less get less spend more pay more. That's quite the conundrum.
Lets follow your logic here. What do we see here
When I reviewed the video the Mac won. That's what I saw.

I disagree. Steve Jobs was not an elitist. If you look at the beginning the Steves were both about bringing technology to the people who would appreciate it. They wanted to produce something that would be priced reasonably, work better, and more importantly inspire people.

I don't know whether anyone will consider this version of the iPad inspirational. Do you think it would a better choice than the Android or Windows tablet at the same price point? Is it at a price point where more people can make use of it?

I truly believe that the more people who get a chance to use an Apple product the better off we all will be. The user experience in iOS vs Android or OSX vs Windows has for years been a win for Apple. Most people don't get a chance to experience it because of the financial barriers. This iPad may knock down that barrier for quite a few people.
He would have given them something affordable but new or innovative. He hated the idea of "racing to the bottom".

You should brush up on your iPod history. Moving downmarket is exactly what Apple did with the iPods and they owned the music player business.
I don't see this as downmarket. That would be introducing a new, lower priced item that has features to suit the purpose. This is literally going into the archives to pull out an old product. It smells like fear of losing a market position.

Win or lose, Jobs didn't fear the marketplace. He always wanted to set the markets. I'm just pointing out that it's very, very different philosophy leading this company now.

I wouldn't even say they were the equivalent of the SE - The SE while having the older design had flagship performance, battery life, camera etc when it came out early last year. The new iPad has none of that. Half the reason for the older design for the SE was to deliver the smaller screen plus lower price, but this iPad, it was purely to save money.

I disagree, the SE was designed to hit a lower price point to draw entry level customers period. They may or may not have been concerned with those who wanted a flagship smaller screen, if their surprise at how well it sold is to be believed, and their delay in offering 128gb.

The new iPad serves the exact same purpose, to hit a new lower entry level price point, while providing current performance -- it has the previous models screen, just like the SE, but uses the current processor. More customers than ever can now afford to upgrade old models to get current performance, and afford to buy into the Apple ecosystem rather than buying an android based tablet. And that's the point, just like the SE.

Size was a factor with the SE, but the lower quality screen serves the same purpose on the iPad. I think that's a mistake in part, especially eliminating features that help distinguish the iPad from the competition, like anti-reflective screen, and TrueTone display, but the fact remains, the iPad is still a better value even so, than most competing tablets a customer could buy for the same money.

Oh I blame those you mention for plenty, but not for putting up the price of 3-year old hardware by 25% because of an shift in exchange rates, that was Apple's choice. And don't forget the Mac Pro 6,1 was already about £500+ more expensive than the 5,1 used to cost, regardless of Brexit and the exchange rate. I just think they should have absorbed the difference on the older hardware. They seem able to offer old iPad and iPhone hybrids for lower prices now (which is great), despite the exchange rate situation. So I question why they fail to do so with the mac. The iPhone 5S came out after the 2013 Mac Pro and is now reborn as the more powerful iPhone SE for less money. Have component prices really not dropped at all on the macs since 2013, necessitating the ~25% price hike to maintain the same profit margin? I'm not sure I believe that.

Tim the Beneficiari ripps you off 25% and then donates 0.5% to some welfare initiative. Because he is such a humble guy ...

well and why not if IOS devices is what is moving, from a financial sense why should they pour resources into product that are'nt selling as well

Because the reason those products aren't selling is the lack of resources and attention those products receive. The public doesn't swim in stagnant, neglected pools, and customers with a choice don't buy 9 month old products from manufacturer A when manufacturer D just announced models which run the same software. This is why there is still so much competition on the Windows and Linux sides of the desktop computer market.

Everyone is acting like this is the new updated ipad, it's not it's a low pricepoint item, it's the Kindle Fire 7" of the Apple Line. Don't worry Apple will come out with updated more expensive versions soon enough

Since when did Apple compete with Kindle Fire 7s, repacking old tech (air 1) in new products for lower price is just backwards.

No complaints here. Upgraded CPU and lower price make this a perfect replacement for my dad's iPad 3.
Agree completely. Again, Apple knows exactly what it is doing. The target audience: those who a) have never had an Apple iPad but have always wanted one; b) have an older iPad and keep finding reasons not to upgrade; and, c) for those who get tired of sharing their old iPad with their 3-y/o toddler grandchildren (like me) and want to get that toddler her own iPad.

She's gonna love the "painting" apps and the music apps. From the perspectives of many, an iPad with the capability for $300 and change is like giving them away for free. At less than a $1/day and by the end of the year it is paid for (a third the cost of a daily visit to Starbucks for a year) and the iPad will last several years.

What is the gb on this iPad? Have the original iPad Air , wonder if I upgrade to this
Or iPad Pro?

Will replace mom's aging iPad 2 with one of these. The lighter weight and better screen will be wonderful for her. I just have to figure out how to swap it without her noticing (except that the smart cover will be a completely different color.)

I am all for Apple creating entry level tech at cheaper prices; this and SE show that there is a market for Apple products with proven last gen tech (seee SE) that cost less.

So, it is an iPad SE? I'm OK with this, but I'm hanging on to my ipad air until it dies.

Soon there won't be an iPad under $1,000! (Kidding here. I hope!) I wanted to get 'a' pro, when my 4 got to be unusable due to lags. HAH! I had to swallow hard at the prices. Instead, I got the last 256g Air 2 they had, on clearance. And it was GOLD! SOLD! I mean, they had me at 'clearance', and didn't even need to say 'Gold'... The price was UNDER the cost of the next lowest memory size. Didn't have to think about that at all.

But I dread the future, post Apple Care. What will I have to sell to get the 'Next Lat Year's Greatest' iPad. A kidney?

Nothing wrong here and in the case of current Apple products right through from iPhones to the Mac range older is better.

1) Like the iPhone 5s the iPhone SE has a superior more robust design.
2) The iPhone 4s and iPad 2 remain well and truly up there with the latest offerings.
3) No Headphone jack on current iPhone models. Whats more important having a waterproof phone or being able to listen to music without the expense of Bluetooth headphones? For many this is a no brainer.

The Retina MacBook Pro has lost

1) Function Keys
2) ThunderBolt
3) USB 3.0
4) Magsafe

all replaced by the grossly inferior TouchBar and USB-C. That much is borne out quite plainly by the number of docking solutions available to make the latest Retina MacBook Pro anywhere close to useful.

In short Older Apple products are better.

AND the keyboard SUCKS! Noisy? WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE KEYBOARD! STOP TYPING FOR A SECOND!!!

Why innovate when you can just keep selling old stuff forever?

Dell?

To be perfectly honest, even when i try out the "new" iPhones, they are basically the same as the old iphones.

Apple is just all about coming up with new color products now.

Pretty much. Funny how kids realize this more than adults sometimes.

85% of the people are going to put these in case so you'll never know what form factor it is anyways...

They are complaining because the Air 2 exists. So the new "iPad" should be the form factor of the Air 2, lower priced, with all the same options, with a slightly faster 2017 chip. A mid-range iPad for those who don't need the Pro, the Pencil, etc.

I fail to see why this is so hard to understand. Apple reverted to a tablet they themselves improved upon, and did away with the improved version everyone knows. lol.

So when they don't change the form factor, people complain and when they do, people complain.

There seems like there would be a limited number of flat form factors.

So now if you want the Air 2 option, you're forced to spend EXTRA on the Pro.

And the Air 2 "option" is just the form factor? (I think that's what you're saying)

People over the years have invested m/billions in an industry that was supposed to be innovative (...) instead of lamentary - by its own mission
This is not a biscuit factory, dud.
I stand by my statement. The industry doesnt owe you or I a single thing. We are consumers first and foremost. No one is holding a gun to your head and telling you to invest in APPL. Although right now youre silly not to...

Probably for you to understand, your banking relation has to send you a letter they switched to a biscuit factory and put your savings in a tin to remain crisp...
