The main issue with the AirPods was (a) garbage sound and (b) short battery life when listening to MUSIC (excl. charging case).

They changed EVERYTHING BUT the things that needed to be changed.

Way to go !!!!!
I guess sound quality is subjective. I think the sound quality is quite good. And they increased the battery life to about 7 hours?

To each their own.

Evidence customers are confused? The sales certainly don't indicate that.

We just got the new ones released today. How can you say that?

iPhone sales certainly are down and product confusion likely has a part in that as well (not of course the only reason).

Wireless charging - unreliable tech...and who cares ill just plug it in.
New chip - who’s cares
Hey Siri - whatever, its not like its inconvenient in Airpod 1

These are HEADPHONES, upgrading the sound should be the main concern here everything else is stuff thats ok to have...but at the end of the day I’m using these for SOUND. Just wow...what a letdown.
There is reportedly better sound. At the same time THEY ARE EARBUDS FOR $200. How good could they possibly be? At that price people want decent sound + CONVENIENCE. There are earbuds that sound amazing for $400+ and headphones that go into the thousands. Some require an external amplifier + DAC. The AirPods actually sound decent but they connect REALLY well, which bloody bluetooth earbuds don't.

they are making all of the announcements before the event) should we also expect the airpower to get announced in the next 4 days?)
I'm guessing we are ... it's been a new announcement everyday this week so far.

right) this may be one uneventful event)

This is 2nd gen. Faster connection, better sound (not sure how much better), better connection for gaming, longer battery life and wireless charging case option. The free inscription is nice, you can put your name or something on them.

Yes
Where did you get “better sound” from? Honestly asking. If they improved the sound, I may get a pair after all.

Good to see the shipping date slip to April. Hopefully it gets to 3 months or so for reselling but it’s looking good to make a quick grand. I made at least 2-3k on first airpods but this isn’t the same.

Have to shake my head at some of these comments. New chip. Less latency. Faster connection. Better battery. Wireless charging. I wouldn’t give up old ones for these unless the battery is shot but a nice update.

I was referring to their quarterly earnings. They posted a 5% revenue decline (year-over-year) last quarter (which included the last holidays).

I wouldn't imagine they want to report a second quarter-in-a-row of declining revenue results, so I was wondering if they held some of these updates until now, to help this quarters revenue show an increase over last years. This was all in response to a post that asked why these weren't released during the last holiday.

It doesn't really matter it all averages out at the end of the year. I am sure if they were ready last year they would have been absolutely delighted to get them out in time for Christmas. They wouldn't have held back a holiday release to prop up a quarter this much later. That's absurd.

Has Apple ever done product refreshes / updates like this—no event, this many products, trickled out over a week? Off the top of my head, I can't think of any.
It's pretty clear to me that they want to clear out all the hardware upgrades and rumours so people are not disappointed during their March event and can focus on their tv efforts.

Nothing worse than spending $billions on a new business model and show it off at a big show, just to have people complain about no new ipads.

I would say they could also use ability to adjust volume on them (rather than asking siri or on the iPhone) and noise cancellation.

Well, you don’t know me. But I can’t control whether you “buy it” or not. And that’s ok with me. :)

Oh, I can hit “post reply” just the same as anyone else here. You don’t have to like it, but I can. I’m respectful of others and voice my valid opinions. Opinions.
I only “know you” through your posts. My opinion was that you were being disingenuous saying you wouldn’t mind having just bought AirPods 1 when AirPods 2 came out.

My “post reply” comment was only intended to point out the irony of your “much more important things in my life” comment. I mean, your post that I originally replied to was to inform us that you weren’t going to buy AirPods 2. That’s pretty low in the “life importance” scheme of things.

But if you thought I was trying to silence you, I apologize; that was not my intent. If I didn’t like your posts I would have put you on my ignore list months ago; there are a lot of posters on it. A lot. :)

Respect.

Usually I’m pretty happy with my stuff, but been soured by the XsMax, the AirPods that I have, and now disappointed with this latest offering. But I absolutely love my Watch Series 4, my trusty ol’ late 2013 MBPs (me and my daughter) and features of iOS 12.x.

Galaxy buds are splash proof (IPX2), offer passive sound isolation and Ambient Aware mode. Touch controls for everything (stop/pause/volume/skip). Wingtips.
airpods have live listen which is ambient aware. Passive sound isolation isn't necessarily better, it's all up to the person and what they prefer. Some like to also be able to hear around them. So not a feature but rather a preference.

Yeah, not splash proof. But do peoples ears really sweat? Mine don't. Am I weird? I have some beats X and some other cheap Bluetooth headphones, neither of which are water resistant and I've used both over the years on my runs and they both still work fine.

The airpods have touch controls. Tap for various options.
You can get wingtips for them if you have a need(not everyone does) but I get your point.

But how much do I lose by using galaxy buds on an iphone?

from apple website..

Powered by the all-new Apple H1 headphone chip, AirPods deliver a faster and more stable wireless connection to your devices — up to 2x faster when switching between active devices,3 and a 1.5x faster connection time for phone calls.4 The H1 chip also drives voice-enabled Siri access and delivers up to 30 percent lower gaming latency.5 So whether you’re playing games, listening to music, or enjoying podcasts, you’ll experience higher-quality sound.

so from the "higher-quality sound" is where people might be getting that there is sound improvement.

My gen1 AirPods batteries are dying due to all the sweat from my daily workout. I’m really looking forward to the gen2, but this is such a letdown. what's so damn difficult to have a new color and improve water resistance? how cares about hi freaking Siri. longer talk time is nice for others but not for me, i only use the AirPods during workouts. now i have to turn to Bose Soundsport.
