New AirPods Model Numbers Show Up in Bluetooth Database, Hinting at Upcoming Release

I assume they will come out this year. Why would Apple otherwise "risk" that the BT certification is "leaked" and people wait for the new model, when they can sell tons of the old stuff during the holiday season. So hopefully after Thanksgiving, but before Christmas.

I thought about buying the current model, but I cannot convince myself to buy "old" tech :)

Tapping for volume up and down would be awesome and I do not get why they do not add things like one tap, two taps, three taps, short tap, long "tap" etc. to maximize options. They could implement that with the current hardware and it would give people the same options as with their previous headphone remotes.

My experience with the first gen AirPods has been very good. I look forward to improvements in the second generation model but what kind of sours the thought for me is the the inevitable price increases Apple will ask of their customers.
 
I am still holding out hope they show up right before Christmas! Need to buy myself something!!
 
Before Christmas certainly would make sense to get Christmas sales in...I still think they may wait til next year. Guessing the case will be wireless charged ready
 
Has Apple ever released new products in December?

I’m sure customers are buying plenty of AirPods as gifts this Christmas, even without a new model ... only tech blog geeks likely even know one is rumored to be coming.

Releasing a new model would mainly result in a sale price that would move the old models off the shelves to make room for new models, which might cut into overall profits, which might be made up in volume, I suppose. And for that to work, the new ones would have to sell some super compelling features to move them in volume over a heavily discounted older model at Christmastime.
