I tried VLC and files encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1 but they don't work. Maybe the app needs to add support. Some Disney+, Greyhound on Apple TV+ for example... I guess where the audio is actually encoded in multichannel.
is it only certain devices that get spatial audio? i have an XS on ios 14 latest beta got nothing case has charged overnight and still nothing
We should compile a list of apps that work with it, because it is brilliant!
Same here. I guess it will happen when it happens, but good grief. My AirPods Pro will still not update with my 11 Pro Max on latest iOS 14 Public Beta. I've tried hard reboot + repairing and every other suggestion I've seen. I even left them charging and open overnight, right next to my charging phone. No dice.
the 8 Plus has an A11 Bionic. could be a chip thing. the current 4K ATV also has a A10X which the the same as the 10.5Spatial audio works on my iPhone 8 Plus but doesn’t work on my iPad Pro 10.5”. Once again Apple turns an exciting new feature into a source of irritation. 🤬
Technically my iPad was release 3 months earlier than my iPhone, so I guess Apple can just say that’s the arbitrary cutoff point for compatibility. But does anyone know if there’s a technical requirement the iPad Pro 10.5” (A1701) is missing that would keep spatial audio from working? I know all iPads have accelerometers and gyroscopes, so I don’t see why they are withholding this feature from such a recently release, pro version of their hardware.
they said anything in Atmos, 5.1 and 7.1Are there any plans for supporting anything other than Apple TV+?
My guess is that because the spatial audio is tied to your screen it's easy to work on the phone/ipad but with the ATV how would they know where your ATV is placed to base spatial audio around it? Not everyone puts the ATV up front with the TV. Mine is actually behind me. I'm not sure if that's the reason but it's just a thought. The spatial audio is cool. But as a major Apple adopter, I'm pretty bummed/pissed to see it won't work with either my iPad Pro 10.5" or my Apple TV 4K. Both relatively recent devices.
I haven't noticed that at all. Aside from turning my head and noticing how the sound changes from one ear to the other I see no other difference.Am I the only person that is finding watching movies with spatial audio turned on an absolutely horrible experience? Like it makes everything sounds like it’s one of those test videos on YouTube. The EQ and tone (that is dialled into the film in the edit) is so off it completely ruins the film. Turn it off and the proper eq and sound tone comes back. Surely I’m not the only person experiencing this? It’s akin to someone taking an eq filter and dropping off all the lower end.
There is a major difference. Everyone's ears are different, so it might not be obvious to some ears.I haven't noticed that at all. Aside from turning my head and noticing how the sound changes from one ear to the other I see no other difference.
Beats headphones are getting the update now!

No spotify and apple music don't. They don't have 3D audio content. I'm not sure spatial audio has much point for music? Directionally tied to a display doesn't make sense for just spatial audio. The only content on the iPhone I could find that supported Spacial Audio was Apple TV. Apple Music doesn't, obviously any YouTube video doesnt, Spotify doesn't, and I heard Amazon "HD" Music and Tidal might, but not confirmed on the iPhone yet. Even Dolby Atmos demo's don't. I'm sure if you put 5.1/7.1 music/audio in VLC on the iPhone it would work, but I hope Apple updates Siri, Music, and makes it easy for places like Spotify to support it.
