Everyone knows there's no actual performance difference and that the speeds are the same, right? It just appears faster because it's not zooming. But responsiveness is the same.

Probably right. Never a speed issue for me though. I just wanted the annoying animations GONE. And now they are!

Still, even a perceived increase in speed, even if not an actual increase, makes for a better experience.

I have an image saved as my lock screen wallpaper. When I turn Reduce Motion on, the image is enlarged to the point that it doesn't fit on the screen. When I turn Reduce Motion off again, the wallpaper is back to normal. Did anyone else notice that? Why would this feature effect wallpaper?

Edit: Sorry, other way around. Reduce Motion on = wallpaper normal size. Reduce Motion off = enlarged wallpaper.

Dunno what your all complaining about the new dissolve animation is 100% better on my 5S. I no longer dislike iOS with those slow in/out zoom animations which looked horrible. Each to there own I guess.

Big difference between reduce animation ON and OFF.

Prefer off as there is no movement at all.

It's all sunshine and green now. So much better.

While a good part of it has to do with just the interaction, there is a (minor) speed difference in at least some cases as mentioned before.

Yes, it's for the Parallax effect. This results in the edges of the photo to not be seen (due to the zoom) until you tilt the phone, giving you the effect.

You guys claiming that turning animations off isn't faster... all I can say is try it for a day.

It is clearly much faster.

Lol the only thing faster is phone unlock and by a tiny bit (feels faster than it actually is because the icons fade in already in position. But it's faster by a bit).

Apps open in exactly the same speed. Go ahead and test it with two iPhones.

So the motion feature effects parallax? Before 7.0.3, when we didn't have the option of reducing motion, my wallpaper looked normal. Now, with that same setting, it's enlarged.

Tried it out specifically to compare and certain things are at least a bit faster, like unlocking, opening a folder, or going back to a previously opened app.

Didnt have this setting before? What device is this on?

I have a 5s. Maybe I'm missing something. You couldn't turn off the "fly-in" animation before 7.0.3, correct?

...and still, no one can provide a video of true side-by-side comparison showing that off is faster than on...

I, like others, tried it both ways and can see no difference other than the fact that the fade in shows the full size folder/apps "quicker" which only leads to a perception that it is faster.

So here it is:

Basically its same thing whether you have animations on or off. Nothing is faster when reduce motion is on. You still have wait animation to finish, you just don't see the animation so you think its faster.
So that's a comparison? What is that like with the animations on side by side? Even though there is still some "lag", is it the same?

Correct.

I don't have second phone to do comparison side by side. I just want to show you that you still cant operate the phone while animation in the background is running.

And here is a video Ann shared on the other page:

As you can see, the settings app CLEARLY appears faster then with the animations. The user could have instantly manipulated the switches the instant it appears.

Heres whats faster:

-Opening multiple apps in succession
-Getting to page 2 of a folder (no longer have to wait for animation)
-Resuming an app you recently had open
-Unlocking the phone (very minor speed increase on the 5, better for 5S touch ID users)

Its faster. I don't know what else to say. If you don't think its faster, turn the whiz-bang animations back on. I'll enjoy the speed, thanks.

For a moment, yes. That part of it all hasn't been adressed by the changes in 7.0.3, but the animations before/around that have been where the overall interaction is at least slightly faster when it comes to at lest some things.

I'm a little slow today but I think I got it now. Reduce Motion was always there but it has been expanded to include the "fly-in" animation. I had Reduce Motion turned on in 7.0.2, so I guess that's why it looks strange when I try go back to the animations. I never even noticed the parallax effect.

All I needed was a few minutes to compare...
Still has the 0.5sec delay.

I think that the fact that many people arent convinced that its faster shows that it likely ISNT faster, otherwise it would be CLEAR.

In other words, nice placebo.

What we really need is a look at the code...

Could yall, eye candy haters, just drop it already? Believe it or not, but many people LIKE the animations. Stop being such a robot...A Dwight Shrewt (The Office).

So what if it only serves to entertain my eyes...No reason to either:
1)Leave it all android like (laggy/glitchy)
2)Sterilize it

Well said. Who wants a boring phone? We just came from that with IOS 6. I hope they revise this again and give us the option back.
