The currently in-box shipping keyboard is already too small. It looks ridiculous sitting in front of a 24" iMac or 30" display. Plus as someone else mentioned, the cursor keys are horrible to use.

Hopefully Apple keep the proper sized keyboards with numeric keypads as an option (at least!), otherwise it's time to start looking at alternatives. :(

The dimensions of that keyboard are roughly the size that the actual keys are on the current one. Maybe they've gotten rid of the border around the keys?

Maybe there are no "keys" at all. Maybe it's simply a large iPhone-like touchscreen that displays a virtual keyboard. ;) That would make it easily configurable to other applications and languages, but would be horrendous to use.

People are upset, I suppose, because there's no longer a bluetooth version of the keyboard with a numeric keypad.

And you have to shell out another $50 or BTO your Mac directly from Apple (shipping delay and forget returning it) if you want a “regular” keyboard that’s the de-facto standard on every other PC manufacturer’s computer in the world.

This is EXACTLY what the iPhone needs!

Oh boy. New keyboard, new mouse, new imac, new everything! :D

But, how is the already tiny keyboard going to get any smaller?

agree - i have been waiting for this imac update and will be ready to order on release day...

i am always curious to see apple's innovation but can i like a new keyboard and mouse any better? i guess i will wait and see...

Finally they're ditching the Mighty Mouse! That's the worst thing to come from Apple since... The last bad thing to come from Apple :D

Hmmmm ... new iMac, new keyboard, new mouse, and a relatively new version of MacOS X ... I think I'd let other be the guinea pigs for a couple of weeks first, especially if it's going to be an important work-based machine. :)

Great, more anorexic stuff from Apple.

So many idiotic comments. The fact is that the current m mouse is sweet, real freaking perfection for what it does. I may be one of the few brainwashed prats that think so, but i do (as I use it 24/7, day after day) so whatever -- but bring in some multi-touchy-ping-pongy and I'm there (i hope)

I'm OK with the wired MM - after I got over the quirk that you can't rest your finger on the secondary button area if you plan on pressing the primary one. The shape and feel is quite nice. I don't think the scroll ball is too shabby either, even though I prefer Logitech's latest freewheel. The side buttons are useless though, you have to apply way too much pressure, and it's a complete waste that the two are linked.

Having said that, I loathe the wireless MM because it's way too heavy. Even if I take my biggest gaming mouse with a trillion buttons and parts and fill the weight cassette with the maximum load, it has nothing on the wireless MM. This combined with the fact that it doesn't have proper polytetraflouroethylene feet on the bottom, but rather some ugly ass toilet ring with slightly sharp edges, means that if you don't have the right mouse pad (I have quite a few), it scrapes against the surface - not audibly, but you get that icky nails-against-blackboard feeling. Also, it eats batteries like Homer Simpson eats donuts.

It's borderline comical that they priced such a primitive and flawed construction in the same range as Logitech's and Microsoft's top range mice with the latest tech. In terms of material, build, finish and features it has more in common with those $3 Dell mice that everyone throws out with the computer's packaging...

I have waited 25 years....

Despite introducing the concept of a mouse for personal computing... Apple has yet to produce a mouse that is even usable.... as a matter of fact... each new Apple mouse that is introduced... is worse then the one before it. I would take the Lisa mouse over the total absolute POS that is todays Mighty Mouse... It is easier to get the lint out of my belly then it is to keep that little POS ball of wax rotating freely - and don't get me started on magic invisible buttons... or those PITA side buttons that require a vice to operate ...

I love Apple... and almost all of their products ... but I have no confidence whatsoever that they will make a new mouse I would be interested in! They will try and reinvent it.. with a touch surface and pretty lights etc.... and it will be a load of dingle-berries...

Logitech knows how to make them. Very well I might add.

Most likely:
-Make the current BT keyboard with black keys + backlit
-Fix scroll ball issue on MM by adding a gesture area or something on the mouse.

I've been hoping for black keys, but it would make the white cable on the wired version look even more out of place, and I don't think they're switching to black cables anytime soon. They kind of painted themselves into a corner by sticking with white accessories from their 2003-2006 White Era, even after black became the primary accent color on the computers.

If they make one cable black, they'll have to make all cables black, and then they'll have to make black remotes, mice, iPhone/iPod docks etc, and then they'd have to make the iPod headphones black and lose their #1 marketing gimmick.

I agree that Apple hasn't got it quite right with the Mighty Mouse as there seems to be a fair bit of criticism floating about. However, their multitouch trackpads are the best on the market for me.

I see some people asking for a simple BT glass multitouch trackpad instead of a mouse - this sounds like a great idea, why not use something they already have? It seems simpler than trying to invent a mouse with a multitouch surface on top. They would also be able to use the same parts as their notebook range which would make sense in terms of reducing costs of manufacturing. The multitouch trackpad has a proven track record with its large userbase on the many MacBooks out there. It would also ensure that there is more consistency across the range.

I'd love one, but I'm not sure they will introduce this product. If they do, it'll certainly cost me money as I'd happily buy an iMac or Mac Mini with a cinema display if a multitouch trackpad option was available. For now I'm very happy with the MBP.

But I love the current keyboard design! I hope I love the new one more though. I need to go buy the bluetooth keyboard really soon in case I don't like the new one. I was wanting one for Christmas. Oh well, Happy early Christmas to me!

A friend who works at Apple told me that they were designing a new mouse a while ago. He said it'd be made of glass (probably like the trackpads) and that it'd react to pressure.

I don't know why everyone hates the Mighty Mouse. Wash your hands if you don't want dirt in the ball.

I'm a little upset though because I just got the current Bluetooth keyboard. :(

How?

Smaller??? That is weird. I thought you can not make it any smaller and still usable. And please please please get rid of that stupid ball in my not so mighty mouse cos cleaning it every few days drives me insane.

How do you clean it? My dad uses carmex which he applies with his index finger then immediately uses his mm.

I love mine, it works fine, but if they come out with an aluminum one, I just might have to get it to match the new octopus... especially if they replace the little ball with a touch sensitive area. Guess I should get one for Pops for Xmas while I'm at it.

Good riddance, Mighty Mouse! Going through three of them in three weeks time because of a design flaw is absurd.

The existing (full) keyboard is lovely as is, though. It was a significant improvement from the previous "see-through" design.

Has anyone else noticed that the shipping for the bluetooth mighty mouse has been pushed back to "2-3 weeks"? well it is in canada anyway... i haven't checked the other websites... but really, is it always that late?(i never have regularly checked the shipping status on it)
