This is disappointing. A better case and pencil was going to be one of my reasons to upgrade. I really dont care for the Smartcase on my 10.5. I find the magnetic attachment too weak and have issues with it falling off when no using it. Keyboard OK, but cover not so much. It also adds too much weight making it almost as heavy as my MacBook Pro.

Are you referring to the 10.5 or the newly released iPads. It is not always clear from your wording.

Well for the 11” the folio case connects to the entire back of the iPad with all the magnets so there is no issues in it falling off. Apart from the overhang of the edges and their sharpness the case is really great.

Lots of us are. We need to keep in touch and share when a good one if found.

This is the only one that matches the apple one, and it’s a fraction of the price.

Might give it an order, but it’s not out until 30th December

The Mokomcase is available here in the US. I bought a case on Amazon from Ztotop with pencil holder and was very happy with it but sleep/wake didn't work. They contacted me and offered a refund or replacement. Which I accepted a replacement. I also asked if they had a case like the Moko coming (they already have 12.9 version). They said yes it's coming and gave me the Amazon ASIN number for it but I can't find it on Amazon. If theirs comes out soon I'm going to get it to reward their customer service.

What are the chances that Apple will come out with other smart folio color options?
I see the 10.5 has lots of options. Were those all there at launch?

Those 10.5 colours were available at launch. Actually - the 10.5 definitely had many colours at launch, but they may have been updated each season with new colours like Apple has been doing with iPhone cases and Watch bands.

Man, I really miss the colourful smart covers. It was so nice having a good selection and having a bit of fun when pairing it with the iPad. Remember the iPad 2 when they first made Smart Covers? Nice selection in polyurethane and leather. They were even 4 panes at the time, so when folded up it was quite strong. Not to mention a metal hinge.

i am loving my new 11 inch iPad, and really love the new feel of the squared off body, but once I put Apples new smart folio case on it, holding the iPad is very uncomfortable, the edges of the case are very sharp feeling. Anyone else notice that?

As comfortable as this new design is in your hand, I’m surprised the case ruins that feel.

Edges are sharp but it is still the best going for me, so far. I was surprised how well it holds with magnets. It is not near as nice as the leather ones from long ago but I consider myself lucky that Apple did a full case as they failed to do so with the 10.5. I bought 7+ cases for the 10.5 before I found one that was somewhat acceptable.

I agree with the sharp edges and that it feels much nicer without the folio. But, as far as cases go I actually like it. And since it’s so easy to take on/off I think it will work great for me. At home I hold the ipad so I can remove it from the folio. At work I use it propped up by the folio so the edges are not an issue.

Good point, I do realize that in the few days I've owned this new iPad with the Folio, I've used it without any case on it quite a bit around the house, which I hardly ever did with my last iPad because that one had a much more cumbersome case to remove and I would leave it covered 99% of the time.

Are they the same kind of edges as all the previous vinyl smart covers/cases? If so the edges should soften and break in over time. My 5 year old Smart Cover from my Air 1 and 2 is still going (though just barely) and the edges are soft now.

That’s great news, at least there’s hope that it’ll get more comfortable to use. Thanks!

I bought this so that I would have something ready at purchase. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J6NKVZP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's hard to say for 100%, but it appears to be very close to Apple's folio case. It also has room for the Pencil to attach to the case.

I bought the black version of this last week and I will be receiving it Friday. I’ll post to let everyone see what it’s like. I currently have the Apple Folio and will be returning it. I’m thinking this one will be pretty much the same as the Apple one at a fraction of the price.

€1K+ for these devices and Apple releases only this disgusting cheap synthetic material instead of the leather they used to sell at the same price

Got to get those profit margins

Okay...I got the Ztotop folio case today and I have to say...it's pretty good. I LOVE the black color rather than the grey of the Apple Folio. It fits exactly like the Apple Folio, the microfiber in the case is different, but I don't know that it's all that big of a deal. Still soft either way. The pictures are so you can see the fit and finish. Ultimately, I like the outer shell a bit more than the Apple Folio as the Apple one has a "rubbery" finish to it and seems to latch onto things and it's difficult to clean. The Ztotop is a little more like a harder rubber and doesn't feel as "catchy" (couldn't think of a better word. If you have questions, I can try to answer them. Bottom line: this was $30 and the Apple Folio was $70...and this is a great folio until any leather ones come out. The magnets work just as good as the Apple one as well. The Ztotop is not as flexible as the Apple...but I believe that will change over time (the cover is a bit more stiff at the joints). The last two pictures compare the microfiber of the Ztotop and the Apple Folio.

Box says it’s for the 10.5 inch 2018. However, your photos show it for the 11” iPad Pro 2018?

Yeah...the box is wrong. It’s one of “those” products. I’m thinking they produced it before they knew the name and didn’t wait for the 11” announcement...and then just went with it.

The Smart Folio, sans keyboard right? This is what people are hating on??

I love the thing myself. It's my first Apple case for an iPad. So sleek & minimalist.

The three angles are clever & the way it folds back flat makes it less intrusive than my prior cases.

&.... magnets!!!

The only -ve thing is it that it leaves the sides exposed, but it'll rarely leave the house so no big deal for me.
[doublepost=1542594709][/doublepost]
It collapses a little too easily when I want the iPad to sit upright or at an angle. I have to be more mindful to not move the iPad around too much in these positions, else it will collapse.
Be mindful of the two ways you can fold the case back to the lower position.

The felt side should be resting on the table top surface, not the plastic side.

I know it's not ideal, as you don't want the felt picking up any debris prior to closing the case again, but by having the plastic side 'down', it'll collapse easily.

I always fold it with the felt side exposed, but it's not as strong as I would have liked. I still have to be mindful how I move it around.

Just received my Ztotop rose gold case from amazon.com in the mail today. Thanks to the many people who recommended it. Finally I have a case that works well! It can be removed easily so I can use my iPad naked!

AWESOME! Great to hear. I actually just ordered (and will receive Friday) a fake leather folio case just like this one. Fake leather isn't the best, but might have a better feel than the rubbery"ness" of the Ztotop. The link to that one is below...

as usual, I am in the minority again. I think the folio is genius. I love it way more than I did the smart cover. The smart cover didn't protect the back of the device from scratches.

I have no issues around holding the device with the smart folio on it.

The sharp edges on the Smart Folio are really a problem for me. If they would have just banded the edges to be the same smooth material as the sides (sort of like the silicon iPhone cases), it would be more comfortable to hold. Actually, a fully silicone case would've been nice and very smooth. And I also miss the nice subtle Apple logo on the back of the Smart Folio - it would have made it look a bit more finished. Not sure why they omitted it from the 2018 cases. If I know Apple, it's probably because they couldn't place a logo centered on the keyboard folio (due to the fold crease), so they also left it off the Smart Folio to be consistent. The cases just look so blah - especially on the back. I also wish that there was a leather option.
