Is this case over-priced? Of course it is, all cases are over-priced but personally it's the best case I've tried.
I love the red on grey phone and the fit and feel is perfect.

Again it's not in any way overpriced. It is the cheapest fine grain leather case on the market and the best fitting one with the most R&D dollars put into it. How does that make sense? CHEAPEST in it's class and BEST fitting. It's not overpriced in any sense of the word. Maybe you were thinking of the word "expensive" the case is underpriced compared to any alternative of equal or better material quality but it's expensive.

The only cheaper moulded leather cases are not made from fine grain premium leather, they're made from extremely cheap coarse leather material that feels like plastic to the touch.

Apple is able to use economies of scale and pooling massive corporate resources to ensure efficient production. Most companies couldn't make package advertise and ship this product for $39 and turn a profit. I know for a fact as a designer of products like this that I'd lose money.

So I usually carry my phone in a pouch but Best Buy has the Platinum Series - Case with Holster for Apple iPhone 5 and 5s on sale for $10 this weekend. I opened the box to see if the holster works as I don't need the case and it fits beautifully with the Apple Cover..

The holster is just like a thinner version of the Lifeproof holster, minus the locking mechanism.. Anyways if anyone is looking for a holster that will show off your new leather case.. Check Bestbuy. Its normally a $34.99 set, but again they had it in a bargain bin for $10 this weekend.

Nice. Did you purchase in store? Online it shows $35. Would get this deal if it's for $10 other wise I'll pass.

In store only. There is always a bargain bin in the mobile department of BestBuy.. Every now and again I will look in it, as I have found an Invisishield for my iPhone 4s a while ago for 6 bucks in it and a case for my wifes old iPhone 4 as well for $5.

Check your local store.. I had a buddy who works at BestBuy tell me that usually if they are selling them in 1 store, they are doing it in most the others, because its a item has been discontinued either by BestBuy or the manufacturer.

Dont know about others but the case in the pic looks great, matches my timberlands :) just like timberlands if some bits look black from dirt just rub them off. Wear is what gives theses things their uniqueness as long as they dont break or loose their grip on the phone.

Agreed. At first I didn't like the brown leather case because it looked "fake" meaning the color was so even it almost looked like painted plastic. Now that it's starting to wear it looks like leather and I'm anxious to see what it looks like after a year. The case in the pic looks great and I wish mine looked more like it, but I only carry mine in loose shirt pockets. I think there's a lot of folks here familiar with metal / plastic / glass but don't have a lot of experience with leather.

I've had my brown case for 2 weeks now and it's showing very minimal signs of wear, basically just on the edges. So far, so good!

Thanks for the info...... what ever it is I like it.

I've had no issues but I am careful with my phone. Apple case has a nice lip so your screen will be safe.
I use lucky skin edge pro with a clear back that I got with my Mime glass protector I believe and it seems like a good match.

Good to know thanks. So the Apple case fits on/off fine with edge protectors on yeh?
Can't find "lucky skin edge pro" can only find the spectra which are the sides. Do you have a link?

So if I put the lucky skins spectra (side/top/bottom) protectors on it will still fit in the case, and come on/off? I had lucky skins spectra on on before and used a plastic snap on case and it ruined them.

Yeah spectra.... Lucky skins edge PROtection, sorry, should of been more clear. I only use the side pro (protection)

The same is true for pretty much any other case bought at the regular retail price. Do you really think that a case you buy for $30 cost the company $30 to make? Cases tend to be expensive ... that's just the way it is.

That being said, what something is worth is highly subjective. How much something cost to make does not equal how much it is worth. In the end the consumer makes the final decision. I paid $1000 for my 5s. My husband doesn't think it is worth that much. I do, which is why I handed apple my money.

If apple doesn't sell it for $1000 then its not worth $1000. If you pay that then its your decision. If I was starving had $1000 and someone was selling a cracker then I would probably pay $1000 for it. Its still not worth $1000.

----------

You're making the classic mistake of confusing cost with value.

I am pretty sure it didn't cost apple $4.99 to make that case. That case uses about $.10 of plastic, and $1.00 worth of extremely thin, cheap leather.

New Apple Leather Case

Am I the only one who removed their iPhone from the case only for it to feel like a new phone all over again? Lol.

I don't think you understand what the word quality means. Perhapse you should get a dictionary and look up the word durability.

Apple's cases are the highest quality cases that are made for the iphone. I've purchased over 60 different cases and these are the best bar none. The time and money involved in getting leather of all materials to fit that closely and to have buttons that are that responsive was clearly incredible. These cases had more R&D go into them than anything else and they are very reasonably priced. It's a. $ 650-$1000 phone, a $39 case is a small fraction of the price. I also think Apple wanted the material to age over time as a romantic aspect of it. They chose leather that is intended to age and change color. It actually is more expensive than the kind that is more durable.

Very well said. I've never been a case person but wasn't able to get used to the slim figure of the 5 so I'd been using an Incipio case I found at the AT&T store to add a bit of bulk. This black leather case is such a huge step up from what I had and I've been excited to see how it ages/weathers.

Excited;)

So you think you know the price that apple sells their phones for all around the world? You're wrong.

In Canada a 64GB iPhone 5s (which is what I got) costs $919 + tax = $1038.

I don't believe there is anything more to say on the matter.

Thats a rip off. You should have bought in the States. $1000 for a cellphone is ridiculous. I will sell you mine for $900

Raffi, you are clearly extremely delusional about the cost of products. The iPhone 5S 64GB costs 925.43 Canadian dollars in the US unsubsidized before tax. The 5S 64GB is actually cheaper in Canada than in the US.

I bought 64GB 5S from Best Buy for $958 USD with tax unsubsidized. Most cell phone carriers pay Apple $400-$500 so that they can lower the price of devices.

The case also doesn't cost anywhere near $1.10 for Apple, again I am a product designer and I know for a fact that Apple probably pays somewhere around $20 when you consider production, shipping, returns, warranties, and support costs, per case. They probably will pay $22-$28 per case this year when you consider R&D costs.

Yes, I'm going to spend time and money (for gas and whatnot) to drive to the US and hope that I can pick up a gold 64Gb iPhone. That will definitely be worth it.

You have to remember that Best buy charges $50 more minimum than any carrier store on any off contract phone they have. I bought my 64gb phone off contract for $924.43 in Kansas at an apple store and thats with tax included.

The only thing Apple don't tell you is that it easily wares. Has this happened to anyone else? This has happened to the corners and edges of mine...

A couple others mentioned this as well... 2 or 3 pages back I believe there is a picture of another brown case, and farther back than that (long thread), there are a few pictures of red ones. Have you tried a leather cleaner (Weiman's, Kiwi, etc)?

That's what I thought. I saw a post in the past saying that Best Buy charged more than Apple - I wasn't sure though so I couldn't comment.

Anyway, the point everyone was trying to make was that Apple does sell their phones for $1000+ around the world.

Jeez... they do. Look at that:

"The iPhone 5s Case is made from natural aniline leather. Its appearance will change over time as you use it."

You'll find that on the store page and on the packaging as well. Not their fault you can't read.

Well, in all fairness, it is not that evident on the regular Apple site... I think it is more noticeable on the phone apple store app, but I ordered from the desktop site, where you would have to scroll all the way below questions and answers and suggested products to find tiny fine gray print that addresses color change. So... for me, I didn't see the warning until I got my case in the mail and read the back of the box.

It turned out okay, since I ordered black, but if I can see why people like Alan who ordered the lighter color were surprised.

So, it's not in this section:

But all the way at the bottom below where anyone would assume product information would be (and hard to read even then):

ETA: there was a lot more scrolling than these two pictures show, but I didn't figure you all wanted to see that much detail.
