Just exchanged the GFs brown for a black...it looked horrible after being put into jean pockets for a day.

Yep, same here. Less than 45min in the pocket of my jeans and my red case looked just as bad. Going on three weeks now and my black case still looks new.

Because the fit is perfect, it's slim, it provides just enough face down protection, and it covers with top and bottom with precision cut holes for the speaker/mic, headphones, and lightning port.

There are few if any cases like it available, certainly not leather, and certainly not for $39.

The discoloration issue for the lighter colors is the only down side. True, Apple could have chosen a more finished leather, which would have resisted discoloration better, but that would likely have put it at the over $50 mark, and it would likely not have sold nearly as well.

Please educate us as to what else makes the case so "low quality" in your esteemed anonymous internet opinion.

Probably the fact that it shows wear and tear in as little as a single day...

I don't think you understand what the word quality means. Perhapse you should get a dictionary and look up the word durability.

Apple's cases are the highest quality cases that are made for the iphone. I've purchased over 60 different cases and these are the best bar none. The time and money involved in getting leather of all materials to fit that closely and to have buttons that are that responsive was clearly incredible. These cases had more R&D go into them than anything else and they are very reasonably priced. It's a. $ 650-$1000 phone, a $39 case is a small fraction of the price. I also think Apple wanted the material to age over time as a romantic aspect of it. They chose leather that is intended to age and change color. It actually is more expensive than the kind that is more durable.

Perhaps you should get a dictionary and look up how to spell the word 'perhaps.'

Oh, and durability is component of quality ;).

Ouch.

But on a more serious note, it's a damn shame, the Apple cases looks and fits great but it's better to put that $40 towards a case that will last longer.

What do you mean by "last" longer? I have seen no defects with any case pictured. I've seen a lot of people that have an issue that they were told would happen. Discoloration does not mean it's not lasting, it means the person's expectations were not met. The quality of the case is top notch IMHO.

I meant a case that I can put inside my jeans and not take it out on the first day with half of the color worn away. I honestly have been going naked so far and have had no issues. I think ill just keep it that way, it's awesome to be able to feel the phone in your hand.

You sure half the color is worn away and not "colored" by the fabric? I simply wipe my red case off with an etoh pad and it gets some of the residual/extra color off.

Saw that DetroitBorg posted his case of brown. You be the judge.

Dont know about others but the case in the pic looks great, matches my timberlands :) just like timberlands if some bits look black from dirt just rub them off. Wear is what gives theses things their uniqueness as long as they dont break or loose their grip on the phone. Obviously the black ones will show the least wear.

I just received my black case for my black iPhone 5.

It's a perfect snug, form fitting minimilistic case! All the buttons work fine - no issues when pressing any of them.

I did, however, have a slight issue with my case. I found that the right edge of it (the SIM card tray side) was slightly bowed outwards all along, so that once the phone was inside, you could easily see a gap between the case and the phone (where dust could get it).

Wasn't initially impressed with this, seeing that I paid almost £40 for (included shipping here in the UK) and it was a genuine Apple case. :(

So I took the phone out and started to flex the bowed edge, inwards again (it was slightly bowed outwards) until I had got rid of the gap.

It now seems to fit perfectly with no gap.

Nice case but I shouldn't have to do this for a case costing almost £40!!!

I had 4 different colours of the case. Yellow, Cream, Blue and Brown. I took the yellow back as I thought it was green when I bought it.

In terms of holding up nearly a month later, they all have been affected by dirt and arent the same clean colour look.

The brown case looks better, and I won't attempt to clean it.

The cream and blue aren't too bad, but I might try a clear leather cleaner on them at some point. But I love the worn dirty look on the brown .

I've had my apple leather case for over a week and am in love. Changes the whole look of my iPhone 5. I'm starting to get the Patina that good leather gets. Can't wait for this case to turn that deep brown color that well used leather gets. I actually find myself holding the phone more and sticking it in and out of my pocket to speed things up. In 3-4 months this case is going to look amazing. For comparison I spent double on a coach case for my mom that is not as good. Good work Apple.

Picked up the black case yesterday. So far I love it. Feels really good! Hopefully it lasts
Same here! I love it. My only caveat is the headphone jack being too small. My fairly new Bose QC20 headphone connector is about a couple millimeters too big in diameter. I may have to widen the opening if the other option is to remove to the case to use them.

My Bose SIE2i justttttt fit. A little snug but i'm sure it will wear in a bit.

Whats rough about it? The leather seems to be holding up great with the typical discoloration as expected and written on the back of the box.

I agree it's over priced just like pretty much all of apple's products.

Pic of my red case from launch day. (Free r/t loooong wait)

Yours is looking great! Whatever you are doing seems to be working. :)

I guess when I say it is "rough," I just mean I have never seen a leather product (purses, wallets, shoes, jackets) age quite so quickly or dramatically as some of these pictures indicate.

I had bought my case online in September (we don't have an Apple store), so didn't see the warning about color changes until after I received mine in the mail and saw the wording on the packaging. Luckily, I had ordered the black, so it has been a non issue for me. I still hope to get the red at some point, but am curious to see what kind of color change happens for people who ordered the red.

my amazon cable works perfectly though...

I have two of the Amazon cables: a long one and a short one. The long one fits perfectly, the short one not at all. Must be some variance in production.

I also have two of the Monoprice cables, short and long: both fit snugly but work fine.

Broke down and bought one just now. I immediately love it. The fit is very reminiscent of the Magpul Fieldcase which was my favorite 4/4S case. Thumbs up to Apple. Here are a couple pics of the brown leather on my white 5...

Sorry about the quality. Had to take the pics with my iPad 2

My black case is growing on me. There are some issues with it but since Apple gave it to me for free I will keep my mouth shut.
