I assume that Apple have started moving employees into the rectilinear R&D buildings, which have been seen to be fit out internally for the past few weeks. Seeing the staggered approach to the build - where the last part of the ring to be topped out was directly opposite the cafeteria section, I assume that the main building won't be occupied for another few months.

Apple Park should have been the name of the employee parking garage.

In the video at 3:06, right side of the screen, you can see there's a HUGE entrance to the parking garage from inside the donut. Is there any equipment in particular you think can't either be driven out or hauled out through there (possibly in pieces) on a flatbed truck?

According to the blueprints, any truck that can fit in that tunnel has a very mild turn then a straight shot to drive right out of the building.through the loading dock exit.

Very cool, didn't even notice the tunnel/entrance before.

Will there be roads of any kind inside the courtyard? Sure seems like it given that entrance.. could just be for maintenence/deliveries/special events but still... very cool!

A beautiful ship without a captain.
The post-Cook era can't come fast enough. Profits do not equal innovation. Again, Cook is Apples Steve Ballmer.

Apple uses its money to pay for the design and construction of its Apple Park project.

Where do you get your money from? Perhaps from an employer in exchange for your labor? Is it still your employer's money?

Does your employer have any right whatsoever to tell you what do with your money?
Settle down...
I was just implying that Apple gouges its customers.

It's fascinating seeing the building from the air, but I wonder how it's going to be perceived by a tiny human standing right in front of it? You know, its occupants.

I'm guessing it's curvature will be hardly noticeable. Instead, the facade will just fade off in both directions. Gradually disappearing into the trees in the distance. A bit like how the earth seems flat when you're on it.

And yet, Apple is usually the highest rated in customer satisfaction in all product categories they compete in. Funny how that is, isn't it?

One might wonder if other companies should think of trying to do a better job and charge a bit more for better quality...

:D

People around here have the uncanny ability state the obvious and can't look beyond their own nose. Of course it's not OUR money right now but it was and without it, Apple could not have built this idiotic glutton of extravagant nonsense. It's a waste and could have been used in much more productive ways.... and yes, Apple will be getting less of my money in the coming years.
Okay, good to see you finally write a cohesive post about how you truly feel about Apple Inc. in clear English. Before, it just seems like you were one of the mob of feeble-minded, attention challenged incoherent whiners who are so pervasive on Apple rumor sites.

We trust that you will formalize your opinion as a direct message to the Apple board of directors in addition to this more thoughtful reply. Dr. Arthur Levinson (former Chairman/CEO of Genentech) is Apple's non-executive board chairman and perhaps he will be sympathetic to your stance.

It should be noted that similar criticism was leveled at Apple during the construction of 1 Infinite Loop. For some strange reason, construction of that facility (massive in its time) did not ruin Apple.

Have a nice day!

A company like Apple is expected to have an impressive headquarters. If it was about money alone and had nothing to do with image they would run their daily affairs from a tin shack in Bangladesh.

I am beginning to see a trend on MR where as Apple gets richer the posts get dumber. If this HQ is enough capacity for Apple for the next 50 years it is a smart thing to do. A company like Apple making a landmark that is iconic is always how they have done business and to be expected.

All of the people making asinine comments would be the first in line to tour the facility should they ever be invited. This is a facility where many mutli-billion dollar deals will be made. Get back to me in 20 years when Apple is the first company on the planet to have a trillion dollars in cash reserves. This building is a financial pin prick for Apple.

Apple was created by Steve jobs, built by his vision, saved by Steve after they lost their way, the new campus was imagined by him, and was granted to Apple by Cupertino because of him.

So... that big amazing structure is not going to be called the Steve Jobs Building?? He only gets the auditorium?? Auditoriums are named after corporate donors, for God's sake! Apple = Steve and he just gets the theater. Just doesn't seem right.

That's the way it works here, sadly. Ragging on Apple gives those with little going on in their world a tiny sprig of power, which no doubt feels like an enormous and empowering rush, like they're sticking it to the Man.

I imagine most of the same people have little awareness of the development of art history and how significant architecture has played a major role over thousands of years. And of course there is the practical side where Apple is flat out of space and rents a huge number of buildings across the San Francisco Bay Area, a very inefficient situation. Also, with average senior engineering salaries at roughly $150K to $200K+/year in this area, a superb work environment is essential for attracting the best talent. It's great that Apple is willing to invest in a architecturally stunning headquarters.

Why this greatly upsets some people is beyond me.

Is it May in Cupertino already?
The slight mislabeling is the result of an ongoing arms race. There are at least three youtube accounts posting snazzy monthly update flyover videos. Whoever posts theirs first is a bit more likely to get included in an article like this and thus get extra hits, ad revenue and reputation status bump. So lately there's been a temptation to post just bit earlier than the next guy, balanced against some fear of losing credibility if they overdo it.

The video featured was the "Mathew Roberts" video, posted two days early. His competitors include "Duncan Sinfield" and "Igor USA". Looking at the prior month we find:

The "Duncan Sinfield" update for April posted two days early (March 30th):

The "Igor USA" update for April posted a full week early (March 23rd):

I could really care less about apple's ego vanity watchband reveal stadium. This money couldve been invested into new airport express and macs, or anything else that will actually affect users

And yet, when you look at their balance sheet and 10K reports, R&D spending is up, and they have more cash than they had when they started the construction phase of the building.

Beware of the statist mindset that thinks anything can be made better by throwing money at it. If Apple isn't innovating or providing the right products for the world, does throwing more money at that, specifically, make things better? Should they build new labs specifically for products? Should they hire more of the best engineers? All that doesn't matter if the company lacks the right direction, and all the money in the world isn't going to buy the right vision.

Apple needs the right person at the helm, and not to drop a trainload of money on something instead of the new HQ. I had a weird idea about that, that what Apple needs is a former department head or executive team member who was forced out the door to come back after a 10-15 year hiatus, where he learned a lot about the world and what really makes people tick.

Now, who does that bring to mind?

And hopefully, he leaves skeuomorphism at home when he returns to the shop.

Drone videographer Matthew Roberts has posted a new video on his YouTube channel this morning, covering the ongoing progress of construction at Apple's soon-to-open campus, Apple Park. A few weeks ago, Roberts posted what was expected to be the final update before Apple Park's grand opening, but the campus still hasn't opened its doors to employees with just a few days left in April.

Ever since Apple officially announced the name for Apple Park back in February, construction on the site has ramped up rapidly over the ensuing weeks. Today, solar panel installation on the roof of the central "Spaceship" building appears nearly complete, while the courtyard of the building is still seeing major construction related to the large pond and surrounding greenery.

Landscaping everywhere on the campus has been expanding over the past few weeks, so much so that Apple has caused tree shortages for other companies in the area. In Roberts' newest video, it's evident that there is still much time left for Apple's landscaping to be finished, which will eventually end with 9,000 native and drought-resistant trees spread across the site.

The continuation of landscaping, as well as construction on some of Apple Park's auxiliary buildings, will continue into the summer, well after Apple moves the first employees into the main building. While some of the side buildings are complete -- like the parking garage -- a few still have a ways to go, including the new campus auditorium, which has been named the "Steve Jobs Theater" in honor of the late CEO.

Once employees begin moving in, it's estimated to take Apple around six months to move in all the workers coming to Apple Park, which will number about 13,000. Earlier in April, another well-known drone videographer, Duncan Sinfield, shared off a video of what Apple Park looks like when it's lit up at night.

[doublepost=1493570676][/doublepost]Very Strange, here in England, it is still April.

It doesn't matter when the building is done being constructed or the trees are finished being planted. It matters when the office furniture is done being set up, computers are installed, and food is being delivered.
