I still think it's weird that the small theater and not the main, massive, "beautiful" (in his words) building gets named after the man who built and then rebuilt the company. Next to that impressive toroid, the theater is an also-ran. It should be the Steve Jobs Building, full stop.
Think of the theater as Apple's "guest house" for the world's media. So instead of thousands of stories mentioning, "Moscone", "McEnery" or "Bill Graham" , they'll all be writing "Steve Jobs" now.

Quite clever.

The only response that resonates w me.

According to that recent article about Apple's Chief Arborist, as many as possible of the original trees were saved. But I think he said many of them were in rough shape.
With the multi-year drought, that's not surprising. Also, the SF Bay Area has suffered from some problems like sudden oak disease.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was indifferent upkeep in the latter years of the old corporate campus.

Also, much of the landscaping of this era was not carefully thought out. Many of the species are non-native and quite a few trees aren't suited to the local micro-climate. I still see Monterey pines in the wrong locations, most of them suffering because they are not in the climate they prefer.

A lot of developers just planted what grew fast and/or was cheap without considering the long-term health of the plant or any repercussions once the plant was fully grown, like shallow roots pushing up pavement or damaging foundations, water requirements (e.g., redwood trees are rather picky about water salinity), safety (some trees have a habit of dropping large branches), stuff like that.

The chief arborist is tasked to save a lot of these trees simply because they are old despite the fact that many of them shouldn't even have been planted here in the first place which is why they are in rough shape.

He did mention that as one of his concerns. He wanted to keep trees that were appropriate, but otherwise focus on trees native to the area

It's a good thing that they don't get regular golf ball+ size hail every spring like through tornado alley. That carbon fiber roof would be gone in a season or two in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and North Texas.

Sorry...Off topic. Did you read the topic? This is one for the Wasteland.

Groundskeeping alone is mind boggling.

All campuses housing upwards of 14000 people will be expensive to maintain, but I think the very natural landscapes with native flora may be able to take care of themselves quite well and thus reduce costs. Just a hunch

Why all the upper case and spare punctuation? Reveals the limits of my tolerance ...

With a location like this, you can't help but come to work inspired everyday.

This campus reminds me of one of the things I like about Apple and Steve Jobs the most... THEY HAVE TASTE!!!

This ish looks amazing and simply reminds me that Apple has it going on, period!!!

I can imagine how first Keynote takes place in a Steve Jobs theater. It is dark and silent in the room. Scott Forstall shows up and says (with his typical smile): "Hey guys, sorry I'm late. I'm not good with maps." Everybody laugh and cheer .. and then I am back in a reality and I am sad .. We need a cult of personality. It doesn't work without it.

I'm pleased how my 300% overpriced iPhone 6S money is put to use (I'm in Europe and paid over $1000 including Apple Care). Now also spend some money to stop advertisement for animal foods pls.

Your 1000 will still be holed up in the EU to avoid tax and hasn't funded the construction of this. ;-)

People are welcome to their own opinion, of course. To me, most of this video is the same repetitive drone fly-by video we've been seeing, month after month, during most of the construction - the Jobs Theater part was all I cared to watch (btw it's funny how my iPad keeps trying to capitalize "watch"!).

Fair enough.

I am usually expecting more landscaping progress, but even if I'm ultimately disappointed by the progress, and even if it ends up looking much like footage we've seen time and again, I still have to watch the footage to find out.

Really Excited about the first product launching at Steve Jobs Theater

I'm excited as well, especially given it's the new iPhone 8. It's a good idea that the Steve Jobs theater is outside the main campus building. At first, I thought it would've been better if it was located within the ring surrounded by all of the fruit trees, but then I realized having it "outside" would be less disruptive to everyday operations whenever there's a product launch.

Is there an underground tunnel connecting the theater to Apple Park? Or is the theater a complete separate building in its own?
From what I've seen, no evidence of any tunnels connecting the theater to the garages or main building.

The overall campus and building is too big and grand for what they actually produce; a dying line of computers and the same basic phone for 10 years. Unless they actually make a car (not just autopilot software but a real car), then I can't wait to see them lease this space to Roche, Amgen, Gilead, etc. LOL.

If you've been following along every month, it's obvious to see the progress that construction crews have made since the prior video just 3 weeks ago.

Does anyone know the name of the music playing during the video? Several people have asked in the comments but I guess it's a secret.

Jobs was at his best on stage. And that's how he will be most remembered. It's totallly appropriate to name the theatre after him. It's also been said that he asked not to name the new campus after him.

The theatre will be what most of the general public interacts with anyway. Very few non-Apple employees are going to be frequenting the main building. However, thousands of external people will be attending keynotes in the Steve Jobs Theater every year.

That said, the theatre is way bigger than you're giving it credit for. Here it is under construction.

There isn't a tunnel from the main building which is way too far for a walk in a tunnel. Instead, you can see that there's a connection from the parking garage so they can walk over from their parking spot directly into the theatre's backstage area. There's also a driveway into the theatre's loading dock so executives could presumably drive right up to the backstage of the theatre if they wanted to.

To date, I feel Apple has respectfully addressed Steve's "legacy" with pitch perfect class. Never too much. Perfectly subtle. And while not overly so, I have a hunch the pending event will honor Steve more than any to date. What better way to honor him than by leveraging his now infamous "one more thing" as they debute the next gen iPhone? I'm not sure there has been a more appropriate moment. Shaping up to be a special event.

I love that idea. I too think that they'll debut the Steve Jobs theatre for the iPhone keynote in September and being that they'll be launching Steve Jobs' last product — Apple Park itself — it'll be an opportunity to honour him at the beginning of the keynote. Announcing the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus could very likely be followed by a One More Thing... iPhone Pro.
