Wow! Came in for a 99/4 and walked out with a MAC?!? That guy needed to be named "Salesman of the Century!", LOL!!!
?? No... The Mac wasn't even a dream when I made that trip. I was sitting in front of the 99 with the awful keyboard, trying to get it to do things. The salesman asked me to sit at another desk and try something out. It was an Apple ][, running an adventure game. It was something set in an amusement park, so I think it may have been one of the Adam's adventures, but I can't be sure. Anyway, I was so taken with the game and how the computer responded that I had to have it. So, one 48K Apple ][ and Disk ][ later...
But do you have an Apple ][ 3.5 (Lyra) drive? The one they made for the //c?
I had already dropped off the map by then. I flirted with the idea of getting a Platinum IIe but finances prevented it. A few years later I happened to get a Win3.1 PC at a discount and it didn't work right. I ended up teaching myself how to repair it, and then went into business doing builds and service. I did exceptionally well but I didn't find Windows fulfilling. I actually liked working with DOS CLI much more, but the market was going GUI. I explored alternatives from GEM to GEOS to OpenStep. In 1996-97 the second round of PowerMacs came out and I dove back into the Apple world with my first Mac, a PPC 7500/100. I'm happier here. The sky is a nicer shade of blue and the food is better.
You mean the original address on the "Newton's Apple" literature? I have it on the tip of my brain; but I need to look it up just to be sure:
Ok, here it is:
http://bitsavers.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/pdf/apple/apple_I/Apple-1_Cassette_Interface.pdf
No thats not it. My question was incorrect, sorry about that. The Newton era was the Apple Computer Company, which was the original partnership. When they went to Inc they were in another property, and thats what I was trying to remember.
I found it: Apple Computer Inc. first office was located on 20863 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino.
I understand; but I still insist that Integer BASIC (WozBASIC) absolutely would return an ERROR (pretty sure it would be a SYNTAX ERROR) if you entered ANYTHING it didn't recognize.
Thats fine. At some point you or I will speak to the Woz about this, and we'll know for sure.
