What a ridiculous suggestion....ooh some Botox'd fashion woman boss joins Apple as head of retail and ooh she likes watches (insert pics of budget Fossil-made rose gold ubiquitous fashion crap with Burberry logo glued on dial and 1000% markup).

I'm sure Ive and Federighi also "like watches" and are, you know, actually involved in the design and development of the iWatch

I'm pretty sure this hire is more to do with the turn around of the Burberry brand and successes in taking Burberry into Asian markets under her leadership rather than the fact that their shops sell a few watches these days.

This really is scrapping the bottom of the barrel for an iWatch story.

If JCP fired Mr. Johnson in large part because his desire to class the place up a bit scared away their "core" customers; I can't believe what they were on when they thought Angela Ahrendts would be a good fit for their "brand".

I was willing to give their board of directors the benefit of the doubt in letting Ron go when they did, but if this is for real, it just sends a message that they may be out of their depth.

Karl P

But this is not about JCP hiring anyone, its Apple that have hired Angela Ahrendts. JCP fired Johnson because their board were too spineless to see if his changes would actually work. They saw a drop in sales and just reacted rather than thinking it through IMO.

So it's not that she's unattractive, but this is probably the BEST picture ever taken/touched-up of her....she's over 50 years old and this pic makes it look like she's in her 30's.

Outside of that, I'm not sure how her work with Burberry will translate to dealing with the average schlubs that buy from Apple.

This is so much correct.

Every picture of this broad is a glam shot. Google imagines doesn't pull up a lot of "real world" images of her. Does she ever go out in public or does she just spend her days in photoshoots

Prices certainly went up in the UK. +£20 for the 16GB; +£30 for the 32GB, +£10 for the 64GB. I had assumed it was the same everywhere, but maybe I am wrong.

Oh I was unaware of that. Typical yank that I am lol. :D

The prices have stayed the same here for years now.

Sexist Neanderthals abound

So our favorite company hires a new exec who happens to be female and some of Macrumors participants want to talk about her looks. Wow! Here we are in 2013 and we still have to deal with this BS.

I've been on this Board for several years and have yet to see ONE post about how ruggedly handsome Apple Exec 'A' is, or how manly Apple Exec 'B' or how studly Apple Exec 'C" looks in that tight t-shirt. You get my drift?

Gentlemen, put your focus on what is important: will she get the job done at Apple? Her success will be measured by that and not by if she looks good in couture.

Especially since Burberry does not make their own watches. Burberry's watches are made by Fossil.

And they're not even remotely high end.

They start off overpriced in the boutiques, then end up in the Fossil outlets for pennies on the dollar, and they were crappy watches for the entire the ride. Great job protecting the brand Angela.

I consider the appointment of Angela Ahrendts is just what Apple need right now. Someone with a good head on them who has the ability to revitalise a company. Let's be honest about this, even though Apple have enjoyed huge success, they have been looking a bit lack lustre of late. Ahrendts has turned Burberry around and is leaving the company with a turnover worth around seven to eight billion pounds. That's more than double since her appointment.

I find those posts passing comments on her looks sexist and offensive. I'm surprised they haven't been removed.

Disagree completely. What Apple need are drive, innovation and products. Not gloss and re-branding. Apple certainly don't need more money.

Agree completely x1000.

.

She hasn't been hired for that remit though. Sales and branding are her forte and for that role I think she will do an excellent job.

I do agree though that Apple need to come up with another game changer. Whether Apple need to hire more staff for R&D remains to be seen. They have been hiring Blacberry employees of late so that may bare fruit.

I think Apple have made a few mis-steps, the latest being the 5C debacle. Apart from die hard Apple fans the 5C appears to have received almost universal criticism

And yet the reviews for the 5C were almost universal positive. The only ones who seem to hate it are the ones who never planned on owning it anyway.

But if you building something no one wants ....

I think you are way off the mark. If demand for a product, even a good one, is not there, then someone missed the mark. I equate this to Sony Betamax which was clearly superior to VHS but, in the end, the market place spoke and VHS reigned king until DVDs came out.

The marketplace speaks, not Apple's spin on the marketplace...And that is why the 5S and not the 5C is doing so well.

Maybe in the pro-Apple U.S. market but that hasn't been the case outside the U.S. Many carriers and outlets are already discounting the 5C as they are awash with unsold ones. I think to simply re-brand the 5 by giving it a new set of clothes was not a clever move especially given the price point.

So...let me try and clarify my observation earlier....I could care less what the person looks like. I just found it interesting that the picture they will show of a female executive is so incredibly touched up that she looks 20 years younger than she is...and as I stated, she is quite attractive anyway, so why even touch up the image as much as it was?

And yes, I appreciate good looking women...and I think I would care less if some woman on here made a comment about some hot Apple male exec.

Her eyes are really close together.

criticizing people's physical attributes is one of the lowest forms of communication there is; generally practiced by people who lack either empathy, character or self-esteem. please stop it, or at least don't share it here. better things to discuss.

Agreed, I can't believe they hired her! Close-eyed girl will ruin everything. AAAAGH!

Here's the real reason Apple went after her, and it has zero to do with watches:

thank you for:
a) reading
b) sharing it
c) adding something to this discussion other than burping out comments about how close her eyes are, or grunting that all this CEO (who piloted a major resurgence for a global retail brand) cold possibly know about is fancy wristwatches.

i was starting to lose faith in the citizens of macrumors discussionland.

I agree. If you read anything about what she's done there, it's been innovative, aggressive, and nothing short of spectacular. Especially during a time when the global economy hasn't exactly been running on all cylinders.

And as far as the trolls commenting her looks, ugh. It takes some people a while.

Looks like fetal alcohol syndrome to me, too.

good to know. and what's your excuse?

she's a brilliant, successful, multi-millionaire, who just got hired by one of the most wildly successful companies in the history of modern business, and you're who?

crawl back under your keyboard.

guys, please, WAKE UP! the 5C is simply a way to further differentiate "last year's discounted phone" from this year's new model. the sales of 5Cs are actually AHEAD of how the old discounted phones (4, 4/S) were doing when the 5 launched. and since value shoppers are more likely to wait for their contract to expire rather than rushing out to buy the latest thing, it's likely that over the course of the next year, 5C sales will actually do better than the previous low end iPhones.

and it's not crazy to imagine that maybe next year, when the iPhone 6 comes out, that the 5S might get the color treatment as it slips into the discount slot in apple's iPhone lineup. and if not in 2014, then 2015, when they are looking for a way to physically differentiate the iPhone 6S from the 6, as they will likely have similar outward appearance as most "S" releases do.

So you judged Steve Jobs not only by the success he brought to Apple but also on his looks?
