News on Greensboro Apple store...

I have just heard rumor that next door to the Apple Store at The Shops at Friendly Center, there is going to be a Trader Joe's. Now isn't that like the most perfect shop-gasm. Apple & Trader Joes next door to each other.....be still my heart!

Why can't these stores come to Vero Beach, Florida? I love Greensboro, but live in Sebastian, Florida and we don't have Trader Joe's or the Apple Store, which would be nice so I could go to some Free Lessons for programs on my Macbook Pro.

Except for Marshalls and TJ Maxx, the 2 stores above are my favorite stores

update!

the walls are going up on the front. still not sure if it is the apple store. there is still a space between it and william sanoma so it could be the middle one. but heres to being right!

ill post a pic soon.

Sweet! Last time I was up there all the store fronts where taken off (save for the white ones advertising Williams Sonoma) and everything was stripped down to rivets.

I was kind of thinking that corner space looks like it'd make for a good Apple store. You can just imagine the big windows there on the corner that would make it similar to the one at Southpoint.

Kind of bummed at the February forecast, but at it'll definitely help me in my quest to put off buying a new MB for as long as possible. It's at lot easier to be happy with my creaky old iBook when I can't drive to Durham to oogle and the latest and greatest.

yeah, the corner space would be awesome. I just wonder if it is TOO big. it looks huge. but they said they wanted a bigger foot print. so who knows.

how much storage/warehouse space does an apple store need. cause i can see if you cut half of the corner space for storage it would be the perfect size.

Good question. I agree, that with the rumored "larger footprint", plus storeroom space/repair space for the Genius', it might be just right.

Although part of me can't help but wonder if the whole "bigger footprint" thing is just code for "uh, we're behind on construction but don't want to admit it"

I wish they'd post a sign already!

well i went by again today and all the construction hiding walls are up. so lets hope the sign that says APPLE COMING SOON goes up tomorrow!

Checked today

I checked by today on the way to Durham...I definitely saw construction going on in the space next to William Sonoma; unfortunately, there is no "Coming Soon" sign at all yet.

Update 10/17/2008

Bonjour to you all. I am new to the board but wanted to provide you all with an update. I was in Greensboro on Fri. 10/17. The Apple portion of the building has been completely enclosed with some sort of temporary covering. While there was no coming soon sign, this is a big change from just a couple of weeks ago when you could see workers working inside the building. Also, you could tell that there have been changes made to the brick facade of the building. I don't have photos. Sorry. Perhaps someone could snap a few and do a comparison to when the building was originally constructed.

I also wanted to clear up some confusion about the tenant to occupy the space beside the Apple store. Contrary to what has been mentioned earlier, the store beside Apple with actually be Anthropologie, an upscale women's clothier company owned by Urban Outfitters.

Lastly, I don't know if this was mentioned in any of the articles previously posted, but the Greensboro Apple store has been delayed for several reasons. First off, the company has chosen to make the store much larger than originally planned. Also, Apple is very picky about what stores they are located beside. I heard reports that Apple was holding out for a suitable next door neighbor, hence Anthropologie. I hope this means that Urban Outfitters will also be coming to Friendly soon.

I live in Durham so I have access to both of these stores already. But Greensboro is my hometown and I want to great things to happen there.

Thats my two cents. Hope it helped.

NC Geography

I know this is going back to posts way way back, but as a Raleigh, North Carolina native, I feel like it's absolutely ridiculous to say that a major part of North Carolina is that it has the mountains and the sea. First of all, to go from the mountains to the sea is almost a 6 hour drive (from Wilmington to Asheville), that requires you to go through South Carolina. Second of all, it's 2.5 hours to the closest beach from Raleigh and 3 hours to the closest "mountains." The Appalachians are some of the shortest mountains in the world due to how ancient the mountain range is. So yes, it's a great state for having both the mountains and the sea, but if you're a local, you rarely get to see both.

The closest beach to Greensboro (where I live now) is about 3.5 hours away. Upsetting that making a day trip is kind of not worth it.

the big black construction walls are up around the 'new store'. February here we come!!!!
any one know if they typically put an 'apple store coming soon' sign?

any one apply to work there?

Booooo Anthropologie! I'd rather have a Trader Joe's!

Anyhow, woohooo for black walls!!! We all know what that means! I applied to work there but that was so long ago....

If I hear anything, MacRumors will be the first to know ;)

Photo update for those interested...

I snapped a shot just in case anyone wanted to see the progress. Not much to see except for a giant black face. :apple:

Uh- G-boro sucks, sorry. You should move to the beach or the mountains. North Carolina IS great because it has both. Just becasue you live in the armpit of the state doesn't mean you should knock the best parts of it.:)
