Bonjour to you all. I am new to the board but wanted to provide you all with an update. I was in Greensboro on Fri. 10/17. The Apple portion of the building has been completely enclosed with some sort of temporary covering. While there was no coming soon sign, this is a big change from just a couple of weeks ago when you could see workers working inside the building. Also, you could tell that there have been changes made to the brick facade of the building. I don't have photos. Sorry. Perhaps someone could snap a few and do a comparison to when the building was originally constructed.

I also wanted to clear up some confusion about the tenant to occupy the space beside the Apple store. Contrary to what has been mentioned earlier, the store beside Apple with actually be Anthropologie, an upscale women's clothier company owned by Urban Outfitters.

Lastly, I don't know if this was mentioned in any of the articles previously posted, but the Greensboro Apple store has been delayed for several reasons. First off, the company has chosen to make the store much larger than originally planned. Also, Apple is very picky about what stores they are located beside. I heard reports that Apple was holding out for a suitable next door neighbor, hence Anthropologie. I hope this means that Urban Outfitters will also be coming to Friendly soon.

I live in Durham so I have access to both of these stores already. But Greensboro is my hometown and I want to great things to happen there.

Thats my two cents. Hope it helped.

There is an Urban Outfitters coming to somewhere in Greensboro, I do believe. There's a job listing online for an Urban Outfitters in Greensboro. I do wonder where it will be. I can't imagine it going in the mall, but whatever...

It's extremely exciting to finally get an Apple store here. I've been waiting for a closer one for quite a while.

Opening Set for Late Jan / Early Feb

Per a Friendly Center Rep:
Apple is scheduled to open late January or early February. Friendly Center and much of Greensboro is very excited about adding them to the Friendly family. The delay in announcing the Apple store and the opening was due to Apple changing the size and floorplan of their store.

I just wanted to state how exciting I think it is that Greensboro's Apple store will be the only one in North Carolina that is visible from a major city thoroughfare. The stores in Raleigh and Charlotte are both inside indoor malls and the storefront in Durham faces inward towards other stores at Southpoint.

Then again, that's probably why Apple selected that location at friendly center.

Build it and they will come

Okay for over a year now I've heard that Apple is building a store at Friendly yet nothing has happened. Even the Raleigh store knew nothing. I was in Friendly Center the other day heading from the old part to the new part going to William Sonoma and I passed a new store being built covered up everywhere. But as I am Macniac :)apple:) I felt a certain familiarity with the layout of the store from what I could see between the barricades. Then my boyfriend pointed out the Apple logo on one of the barricades. YIP! I cannot wait! I just feel happier when I am in an Apple store. No more driving to Raleigh for simple needs anymore. The location is opposite William Sonoma behind Mimi's Cafe.

I drove by the Apple Store earlier today, when the wind happened to blow the black wooden doors open wide. The store was almost done, inside!

I drove by on Saturday (1/31) and the black plywood front was gone. The glass was covered so you couldn't see inside and they were working on the store front above the door.

Uh- G-boro sucks, sorry. You should move to the beach or the mountains. North Carolina IS great because it has both. Just becasue you live in the armpit of the state doesn't mean you should knock the best parts of it.:)

I'm sorry you think Greensboro is not a cool place to live, but I have to disagree. I've lived here since the late 80's after going to school and stayed because of how much I love living here. It may not be the most liberal place in the world but there are great things to do here and it's easy to get to lots of places around. The weather is decent and I can't imagine living anywhere else. And NOW Apple is coming and that's fantastic.

i can't name my source, but expect something special to be happening around the weekend of the 21st. :) but thats not official, so don't hold me to it.

Quick question for those in the know, anyone know what time the store will open next Saturday? :)

I will definitely be making a trek out to the store in the morning.

yep it's almost ready

confirmed.
drove by there last weekend, and saw the big black cover over the windows, with the glowing apple floating proudly above it.
i felt like a kid seeing a brand new toys r us about to open......:)

Every so often I check the Friendly Center map, paying careful attention to store #92, and Apple's Genius Bar page, looking under the North Carolina drop-down menu. I only hope they hire staff as knowledgeable and courteous as Mike Skultety, who was the Apple representative for the Apple corner at CompUSA before they closed.
