are there any plans for an alabama store? or is apple going to skip over us like the rest of the world does (save for the auto industry)
we are not as stupid as people think we are... and if we were thats more of a reason to have a mac store here, macs are more simple!

Does anyone know when the Apple store in Braintree, MA is going to open. I have asked the one in Cambridge, but they keep on replying "sometime in the fall". help...

thanks ;)

I haven't heard anything either, than the August/September time frame. With this long of a wait it should be something really spectacular. It's going to call fora real celebration.

Birmingham is ninth on Sayhey's latest list of largest US metro areas with no Apple Store in the works, so it probably won't be too long before you get one.

Let me just add to aranhamo's post that not only is Apple opening stores in metro area of a similar size to Birmingham, but also there have been persistent rumors of attempts by Apple to open stores in Birmingham and Mobile. At one point early on, they even took applications for staff at a Birmingham store, if the testimony of those who applied is to be believed. In your own area, ThinkSecret has reported Apple's feelers toward building in a new mall in Spanish Fort. None of this means a store is coming tomorrow, but it looks like Apple is interested.

Four new locations in NY, LA, and Mass

Apple's Search Jobs web page is listing three new locations in Apple's never ending expansion in New York and LA. The new locations are two in the greater LA area - The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks, California and the Brea mall in Brea, California - and one in the NYC area - specifically what looks like Staten Island mall in Staten Island, New York, this representing the first NYC store within the City limits, but outside of Manhattan.

edit: Apple has listed another new location to make four so far for the day. This one is in the Boston metro area (are they getting closer to meeting your needs, wdlove? :D ) at the Burlington mall in Burlington, Massachusetts. These new locations, plus the ones already announced, will bring the total number of stores in the New York City and Los Angeles metro areas to 15 each and the Boston metro area to 7.

Here then is the updated list of 2005 stores - remembering that there are at least two more international stores to be announced.

  1. Nagoya Sakae, Japan - opened 1/22
  2. St. John's Town Center - Jacksonville, Florida - opened 3/18
  3. The Gardens at Palm Beach - Palm Beach Gardens, Florida - opened 4/23
  4. Bullring - Birmingham, England - opened 4/29
  5. Yorkdale - Toronto, Canada - to open 5/21
  6. Century City - Los Angeles, California - to open in May
  7. South Shore Plaza - Braintree, Massachusetts
  8. Lincoln Road - Miami Beach, Florida
  9. Pioneer Place - Portland, Oregon
  10. La Cantera - San Antonio, Texas
  11. Green Hills - Nashville, Tennessee
  12. Woodland - Grand Rapids, Michigan
  13. The Woodlands - Houston, Texas
  14. Gateway Mall - Salt Lake City, Utah
  15. Bluewater - Kent, England
  16. Crabtree Valley - Raleigh, North Carolina
  17. Bridgeport Village - Tualatin, Oregon
  18. Manhattan Village - Manhattan Beach, California
  19. Penn Square - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  20. Pentagon City - Arlington, Virginia
  21. Garden State Plaza - Paramus, New Jersey
  22. Northbrook Court - Northbrook, Illinois
  23. Florida Mall - Orlando, Florida
  24. Beverly Center - Los Angeles, California
  25. Shibuya - Tokyo, Japan
  26. Flatiron - New York City, New York
  27. Eastview Mall - Victor, New York
  28. Annapolis Mall - Annapolis, Maryland
  29. Northpark Center - Dallas, Texas
  30. Irvine Spectrum Center - Irvine, California
  31. Derby Street - Hingham, Massachusetts
  32. Midtown - New York City, New York
  33. Fashion Square - Sherman Oaks, California
  34. South Hills Village - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  35. Brea Mall - Brea, California
  36. The Oaks - Thousand Oaks, California
  37. Staten Island Mall - Staten Island, New York
  38. Burlington Mall - Burlington, Massachusetts

If no other stores are opened in 2005 but the above and the two unknown international locations, there will be 141 Apple stores at year's end - a record of 40 for the year.

Just a note to say Thursday is the fourth anniversary of the retail stores. Two years ago Apple had a big press release about it, including future plans such as the San Francisco and Ginza stores. Last year there was nothing. I'm wondering if we will get anything out of Apple on Thursday - plans for a Paris store, Steve? Come on let us know!

Thank you for the update Sayhey. Wow that is great 7 stores in the area.
The Burlington Mall store would be about a half hour from me. The South Shore Mall is closer, enough so that will try to be at the opening. Sadly the Chestnut Hill Mall is only ten minutes away, but the smallest in the area. Meaning no theater. Hoping that the South Shore Mall will be something special.

I know that you are aware from previous conversations, my dream is still for a flag ship store.

I'm not a native to New Orleans but live there now

and I say please for my sanity build a store in New Orleans (or even Baton Rouge).

I'm sorry, but I don't feel sorry for you. ;)

Nearest store for me is still an 8 hour drive away. :(

I'll verify that The Woodlands is getting a store -- technically, it's not Houston, but it is the Houston metro area. I saw the construction screens just yesterday when I went for lunch. I work right across the street from this thing. And the 'street' is the circle that surrounds the mall... Aieeee.

I suppose since my office is likely moving soon it won't be so bad, but at least I'll have a closer one to me now!

I didn't expect anyone to feel sorry for me. Just posting my frustration with no flag ship store yet. Sayhey has previously seen some signs that are positive. I do hope that you will get an Apple Store. Is your area on Sayhey's list of areas to get one?

Does anyone forsee any more Wisconsin stores opening up, such as in Madison. The current closest store is near Milwaukee, which is a 4 hr. drive and Minneapolis is the second closest at 4.2 hrs.

I'm hoping Wausau, WI or Marshfield, WI!!!

Eau Claire or Madison would be fine as well, I suppose.

I think it is appalling and disgraceful that Apple has yet to even post any evidence of a New Orleans or Baton Rouge location. We have LSU, Tulane, many community colleges, and great locations. New Orleans along with Norfolk are the only 2 top cities without a store location.

Unbelievable.

I'd LOVE a madison store! With the number of students here, you would think apple would at least consider a mini-store.

Santa Barbara needs an Apple Store! Comon Apple.

ifoAppleStore posted reports of Apple trying to place a store at 513 State street in Santa Barbara. While they were beat out for the location, at least, if true, it means they are looking your way.

3 New Massachusetts Stores!

WooHoo! Massachusetts is becoming Apple Store Heaven!

CambridgeSide
NorthShore
Chesnut Hill
Burlington
Hingham
Braintree

Now just about every mall i go to in MA will have an apple store i think by the end of the year. The Burlington Store is suppose to open this Summer.

hmmm.. As of Now In my Opinion I think Cambridge is probably the flagship store in MA. But I'm anxious to see what Burlington's Store will be like since their mall is a bit more upscale than the Galleria. SouthShore's Should be nice too.

I'm really surprised that they haven't opened one in the Prudential or Copley Place Malls Yet or even just an outdoor one on Boylston or Newbury St.

That would be a goldmine for Berklee Students, as they require all of us to have Mac Products. If Apple Did that I'd be down there everyday if they did that, seeing as I go to Berklee.

The CambridgeSide Galleria isn't a flag ship store. It's too small. Doesn't have an actual theater room with theater type seats.

Sayhey and I have discussed before about possible areas for a flag ship store. One area mentioned was the Berklee. Apple probably would want a self standing building like its other flag ship stores.

Newbury Street or Boylston Street would be a perfect canidate for that spot. Come on Apple let's see it happen. My Favorite Store is the Grove in LA. Make one like that in boston and you'll have at least 2 (me and wdlove) happycampers.

If you're looking at the Boston metro area and not just the stores in Massachusetts proper, you get to count the Salem, New Hampshire store. If I count correctly, that puts Boston in sole possession of 4th place for number of stores - behind New York City (15), Los Angeles (15), San Francisco (12), and Washington / Baltimore (8).

So far not much has changed

Thank you once again Sayhey. I appreciate yoru good memory. Haven't heard anything more about Braintree, other than the original two store openings are boarded up with an Apple logo on the wall.

Well, I was at the Sout Shore Plaza just yesterday (5/20), and things haven't changed so much - but there is evidence of some construction - a silver...panel....thing at the top of the black facade that wasn't there before, so they are at least apparently working on the construction of the store. How much farther along they are? Hard to say.

Hope that info helps - still can't find my camera...but I found the usb cable, so that's progress ;)
