I didn't expect anyone to feel sorry for me. ... I do hope that you will get an Apple Store. Is your area on Sayhey's list of areas to get one?
I was just kidding. ;)

And, no, my area isn't on the list, unfortunately. Salt Lake City is supposed to be getting one soon, at least it's been announced, but that's still 6 hours away and the building the store is supposed to located in doesn't even exist yet. ;)

Thank you once again Sayhey. I appreciate your good memory. Haven't heard anything more about Braintree, other than the original two store openings are boarded up with an Apple logo on the wall.

Well, I was at the South Shore Plaza just yesterday (5/20), and things haven't changed so much - but there is evidence of some construction - a silver...panel....thing at the top of the black facade that wasn't there before, so they are at least apparently working on the construction of the store. How much farther along they are? Hard to say.

Hope that info helps - still can't find my camera...but I found the usb cable, so that's progress ;)

Thank you for the progress update JenL. Any news is good news at this point.

Hopefully you will find your camera prior to the store opening. When the date is set that should give you some impetuous.

From ifoAppleStore.

After waiting two years for the perfect space, Apple has signed a lease inside the Providence Mall (RI) mall for a future retail store.

No confirmation on Apple's website as of yet, but if true it means the fourth largest US metro area without an Apple store will soon loose that distinction. btw, here is the list as it now stands.

The top 20 US metro areas and consolidated metro areas without Apple stores or one soon to be built - officially confirmed by Apple's own website. This is based on the 2000 census and leaves out San Juan, Puerto Rico.

  1. Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Virginia
  2. New Orleans, Louisiana
  3. Greensboro/Winston-Salem, North Carolina
  4. Providence, Rhode Island
  5. Louisville, Kentucky
  6. Greenville/Spartanburg, South Carolina
  7. Dayton, Ohio
  8. Fresno, California
  9. Birmingham, Alabama
  10. Tulsa, Oklahoma
  11. Omaha, Nebraska
  12. Albuquerque, New Mexico
  13. Knoxville, Tennessee
  14. El Paso, Texas
  15. Bakersfield, California
  16. Allentown/Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
  17. Harrisburg/ Lebanon, Pennsylvania
  18. Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
  19. Toledo, Ohio
  20. Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Apple has officially announced the opening date of the long awaited Century City store. It will have its grand opening on Saturday, June 4th.

edit: oops, sorry, it will open at 10:00 am.

Sayhey, isn't Providence actually considered a part of the larger Metro Boston area? Or would they look at the number of stores in NE, which would also include NH?

No, wdlove, according to the 2000 census Providence is a metro area separate from Boston. Although, the Boston metro area does include Salem, New Hampshire - home of the Rockingham Park store. That's why you will have seven stores in your area very soon. I'm still pulling for the downtown high-profile store to cap it all off!

I really wish that you had some pull at Apple. Boston is really a city on the move with construction and prestige. Just hope that Apple makes a decision before some of the prime real estate is taken. It would be nice if you could visit our fair city once we have a flag ship store.

Apple has announced two new openings for the upcoming weekend. In addition to the already announced Century City store the Bridgeport Village in Tualatin, Oregon (a suburb of Portland,) and the Green Hills store in Nashville, Tennessee are also scheduled to open on Saturday, June 4th at 10:00 am.

Sorry, wdlove, I have absolutely no pull whatsoever with Apple. If I did you would have a high-profile store already. I'd love to make it to a grand opening of such a store, but the miles between Boston and SF make it unlikely.

It was worth the thought. Maybe business will bring you this way one day. Although my wife would like to visit MWSF at least once in our lifetime.

The Irvine Spectrum Center store and the Sherman Oaks store are now posting individual job openings on Apple's web page. This puts them well within the timeframe for 2005 openings.

wdlove, one of these days, hopefully, I'll make it to Boston and see the high-profile store you want.

Salt Lake City

I went by the Gateway yesterday, and now the expansion that's supposedly the site for SLC's Apple Store is a two-story structure of steel girders.

While Apple's own website hasn't listed them yet, monster.com has begun listing individural job openings for the Thousand Oaks, Burlington, Staten Island, and Brea stores.

With this weekend's openings of three new stores, the 2005 openings look like this - again, remembering that there are at least two more international stores to be announced:

  1. Nagoya Sakae, Japan - opened 1/22
  2. St. John's Town Center - Jacksonville, Florida - opened 3/18
  3. The Gardens at Palm Beach - Palm Beach Gardens, Florida - opened 4/23
  4. Bullring - Birmingham, England - opened 4/29
  5. Yorkdale - Toronto, Canada - to open 5/21
  6. Century City - Los Angeles, California - opened 6/04
  7. Green Hills - Nashville, Tennessee - opened 6/04
  8. Bridgeport Village - Tualatin, Oregon - opened 6/04
  9. South Shore Plaza - Braintree, Massachusetts
  10. Lincoln Road - Miami Beach, Florida
  11. Pioneer Place - Portland, Oregon
  12. La Cantera - San Antonio, Texas
  13. Woodland - Grand Rapids, Michigan
  14. The Woodlands - Houston, Texas
  15. Gateway Mall - Salt Lake City, Utah
  16. Bluewater - Kent, England
  17. Crabtree Valley - Raleigh, North Carolina
  18. Manhattan Village - Manhattan Beach, California
  19. Penn Square - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  20. Pentagon City - Arlington, Virginia
  21. Garden State Plaza - Paramus, New Jersey
  22. Northbrook Court - Northbrook, Illinois
  23. Florida Mall - Orlando, Florida
  24. Beverly Center - Los Angeles, California
  25. Shibuya - Tokyo, Japan
  26. Flatiron - New York City, New York
  27. Eastview Mall - Victor, New York
  28. Annapolis Mall - Annapolis, Maryland
  29. Northpark Center - Dallas, Texas
  30. Irvine Spectrum Center - Irvine, California
  31. Derby Street - Hingham, Massachusetts
  32. Midtown - New York City, New York
  33. Fashion Square - Sherman Oaks, California
  34. South Hills Village - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  35. Brea Mall - Brea, California
  36. The Oaks - Thousand Oaks, California
  37. Staten Island Mall - Staten Island, New York
  38. Burlington Mall - Burlington, Massachusetts
  39. Trafford Centre - Manchester, England
  40. Meadowhall Centre - Sheffield, England

That is 109 stores open to date (8 so far this year,) and 141 to be opened by year's end.

edit: to add the two new UK stores.

So what about the UK then? I know there is now the London and Birmingham. I can also remembering the other UK one, but can't remember the name. They should make one in Manchester and then Glasgow, and then they focus on other Euro countries

The other upcoming UK store is number 16 on my list above, the Bluewater mall in Kent. Apple has made quite a few public statements this year, mainly through VP Peter Oppenheimer, in which they have stated there will be 10 international stores by year's end. As of today, there are only six. With the Bluewater store and the upcoming Shibuya store in Tokyo that will make eight, but just where are the last two to be located is something many people are guessing about. One of the most popular guesses is that one of those two stores will be in Manchester. Throw in the statement last year by VP Ron Johnson that Apple will open a store "on the continent" and we have a host of possibilities. If they are to truly meet these figures, we can expect some news out of Apple shortly, as it takes some time to hire and train personnel.

It seems like it was just yesterday that I was talking about the possibility of new stores in the UK - Manchester in particular. Well, maybe more like the day before, but Apple is now advertising on its UK retail page for two new UK stores. One is the Trafford Centre in Manchester. The other is at Meadowhall in Sheffield.

In addition, ifoAppleStore is reporting two new locations in Japan.

If you read enough Japanese Web sites, you'll come across Apple recruiting employees for two new stores--in Sendai far to the north on the island of Honshu, and in Fukuoka far to the south on the island of Kyushu. With experience, the recruiter says, the salary could be above $2,327 a month.

This is way too cool!!!! Literally 15 minutes from my pad... oh yes!!!! Hell, I'm in the queue waiting for my goody bag already...

Now then, if only I could remember where I'd parked the car!?!?! [Meadowhell is a fairly large place for the UK...]

YES! Manchester! :D

Trafford Centre is about 10 mins drive from my house... most excellent!

I think i know where about's it is (ground floor). Its the only area boarded up.

In Traff Centre there is now: Dixons selling Mac's, Selfridges selling Mac's, John Lewis selling Mac's and now the Apple store... excellent!

Oh dear my moneys going to be gone!

Any news about stores outside US, UK and Japan?
Seems like Apple forgot that there are other countries as well. :(

Not much in the way of real news. The strongest rumors have been about a second Toronto store and about a 2007 opening of a Paris store (which I find incredibly late.) It is beginning to look like the BBC's report of VP Ron Johnson's remark about a store in continental Europe this year (last paragraph of this story) isn't going to pan out. If it is, we will need to hear about it very soon (2 - 6 weeks) for there to be much chance of a 2005 opening.

Pioneer Place Apple Store in Portland Oregon

Just thought i'd confirm for you all that the Pioneer Place Apple Store is currently under construction. It's on the lower level between the food court and the escelators(In a narrow hallway like area that gets the most foot traffic.) I would imagine an end of summer possible holiday opening. Pionner Place is located in the heart of beautiful downtown Portland, Oregon and is easily accesible by mass transit, both bus and light rail(all three lines.)

I wish Apple would put one in S.W. Florida, given it's high rate of growth over the past 10-15 years (and nearly exponential growth in the last 4-5).

Lee County alone (home to Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, Lehigh Acres, Estero, and Bonita Springs) is building nearly 40 new schools (K-12). Immediately connected with the southern end of Bonita Springs is Collier County, which is home to Naples and Marco Island. In other words, a high-growth rate, high birthrate area which is also a high income area.

Anyhow, just my 2¢.

I don't remember if I said this before, but, Santa Barbara needs an Apple Store, a lot of people here with $$$.

I wish you both of you luck in acquiring an Apple Store. All good things come to those that wait patiently.
