Well, I guess that's something. I figured June was out, but now I'll be surprised if it's this year at all. Oh well.aranhamo said:I went by the Gateway again today and now they have big signs around the construction with artists' renderings and signs saying "Coming Fall 2005"... so I'd say the June opening is definitely out.
wdlove said:Sayhey, don't know if you have heard anything more. But from another source a person said that the wallboard was still up with black paper and Apple name. The individual inquired at the information desk and was told that the South Shore Mall Apple was due to open in August. Got the impression about rescheduling.
Sayhey said:August may set a record for delay of an opening. Sorry, to hear it is taking even longer than expected, wdlove. At least there is finally a date - however remote.
MontyZ said:I won't buy anything from an Apple Store because I object to their policy of charging "restocking" fees for returned merchandise. Instead I buy from a mail-order company (Mac Connection) and get better customer service, don't have to pay tax, and can return the items with no restocking fee. Why Apple Stores can't match this level of service for their premium prices is beyond me. They operate more like a shady discount wharehouse store.
wdlove said:Still concerned since this isn't an official announcement by Apple. How far ahead should we hear officially?

Sayhey said:Apple is now listing the usual individual job openings for the Dallas - Northpark store. It joins the Hingham store among the four newly announced store locations in recruiting personnel for impending openings this year.
aranhamo said:What would you say is the record delay for an opening right now? Is that the delay between posting job openings and opening the store, or the delay between the official announcement and opening the store, or what?
Lancetx said:What is quite odd is that the new Northpark location will only be literally 3 miles north of the current Knox Street store. As large of a metro area as Dallas/Fort Worth is in terms of square mileage, you'd think they'd spread them out a bit more across the area. At least the upcoming Southlake location will finally put a store in the Tarrant County region of D/FW and it'll be a good 30+ minute or so drive away from any of the other stores around the area.
Sayhey said:I'm referring to the time from the initial listing of job openings to the opening of the store. This usually takes from 3-6 months with it stretching into 7 months not that unusual. The high-profile stores often taking longer. What we have in the South Shore store in Braintree is a regular-sized store that, if opened in August, will be thirteen months from posting to realization. A good part of that is because of construction delays and an expansion of the store's footprint midway through the effort, but it is still an amazingly long time.
Sayhey said:I think Apple is probably more concerned with shopping patterns than evenly spreading stores throughout the area. If Northpark and Knox Street have a large enough flow of shoppers, it makes sense even with the proximity of the two.
With two more stores coming to Dallas, one to Houston, and one to San Antonio it looks like Apple is finally becoming serious about its Texas retail effort.
wdlove said:I'm hoping that this delay along with the increase in square footage, might be a positive sign. Maybe it will be something greater than anything else we have in the Boston area.

wdlove said:An opening in September would be fine with me. Maybe would have a chance to actually meet. Having a theater there would be awesome, although they are usually just at Flag Ship stores. One can only dream. Getting two more Apple Stores in the area should help with wait times at the Genius Bar. Do you happen to have ProCare?
