small note. The Apple web page is now advertising for jobs in the upcoming Manchester store. This means all store projects now have individual job listings and should open in 5-7 months.

Hi folks,

Well, I went to SSP just the other day, and there are signs of life - or at least forward motion construction-wise. the door on the giant black facade has been expanded to double doors, and a huge white apple logo has appeared inside a box, so for whatever reason, they've chosen to make the outside look pretty.

thought you should know :)

Instead, let's open store #432,215 in California!

Thanks for the information, but if you're going to work for Apple get used to not telling anyone outside information like that. ;)

mum's the word

Oh I know that, I haven't signed a thing, and the info I was given was during the interview process, I hadn't been offered the job.

Paperwork to be signed today and sent to California, then it's zipped lips.

Finally some concrete news about the South Shore Mall Apple Store. Thank you for the update. Congratulations on your new job. Hopefully I will get to meet you at the opening. Now to hope that my wife will be off that day.

Gateway

I was down at the Gateway the other day. They're starting to put walls on the new mall expansion. But the interesting part is that the original rumor said the store would be between Z Gallerie and some other women's clothing store. Well there's a store being remodeled just south of Z Gallerie, and a few spaces north of the aformentioned women's clothing store (sorry I can't remember the name). So maybe the Apple Store will be between them after all, and not actually in the new contruction? It's not a really big store, but big enough for a smallish Apple Store. If it is going into the new construction, the signs say fall 2005. The windows of the store being remodeled are all covered up with brown paper.

bluewater

just back from the opening of the new bluewater store.

very nice, very nice indeed. no real special offers, but they were giving out little white boxes of goodies (they generally contained ipod socks and such, but whats the betting one or two have a little secret gift in it...)

there were some queues to get in, but nothing more than 20-30 minutes wait and still small enough to get general shoppers joining in not just us apple fans.

the store itself - well, i can compare it to two that i've been to. it's pretty much a carbon copy of the one at fashion parade in Vegas, perhaps a little bigger and definitely contains a lot more. it's about 1/3rd size of the ground floor at the regent's street store but has everything you could possibly want, including a nice big genius bar. to be honest it was a bit crowded to get a real impression of the place, but on first looks it really is a nice store.

i'll be back when the excitement dies down a bit to have a proper poke around!

VANCOUVER!

They should really open one up in Vancouver BC...right in the heart of downtown would be nice :)

Anyone read german?

In a post today, ifoAppleStore, has posted a link of an interview with with an Apple exec that points to a future Swiss store.

Interim CEO of Apple Retail Switzerland Ltd. Walter Müllhaupt has confirmed that Apple will open a retail store at an unknown location (Bahnhofstrasse?) in Zurich. In an interview with FACTS magazine, Müllhaupt declined to provide an opening date or size for the store. The article notes there are about 100 Apple authorized resellers already in the country.

Sorry, I don't read german and can't verify the story, but for those who do perhaps someone can support the normally quite reliable source and tell us if a Apple Zurich is coming soon.

It says that Walter Muellhaupt is an attorney on the board of directors of Apple Switzerland and interim leader of Apple Retail Switzerland GmBH. He claims that the launch will take place this year. He stated that at this time no further stores were planned.

Not very revealing but Apple has a large presence in Switerland and the target market is pretty wealthy so it makes sense.

Rochester area opening July 23rd

Apple has made it official; the new Eastview store in Victor, New York (a suburb of Rochester) will open July 23rd at 10:00 am. This will be New York State's 9th store and the fourth New York store outside New York City metro area. There are still three New York City stores that Apple is recruiting employees for to open later this year (Flatiron Dist., GM Building, and Staten Island.)

I went there on Friday, it was busy but not so busy that you couldn't look at everything. 1st Apple store I've been to, it's nice in there. Staff are not push either 1 ask me if I needed help, & when I said I was fine. No-one else ask me, it was nice to be left in peace to look.

going to get "another" free apple shirt.
sweet!

That's where I went, and I got a T-shirt :)

It was fun, but everyone kept asking if I was OK and did I need any help and do I have any questions :p

I basically just fooled around on GarageBand, which is a blast... and then stared at the 30" display for a while 0_0

I was pretty pleased with the Mac mini's performance (I'm going to buy one soon), although all of the in-store ones had 512mb of ram installed, which isn't really a fair test for those of us that can only get the base model... which apparently even apple is admitting :p
