The swiss daily newspaper "20 Minuten" reports taday that Apple plans to open an Apple-Store in Zürich, Switzerland according to Walter Müllhaupt of the administrative board of Apple Switzerland.

i guess most people will agree with me if i say that Apple is soild and stable in the US and the UK. So now i think is time for Apple to open an Apple stores in HONG KONG or somewhere in China, It is a hard market to go into but i think is worth it. If they open one in Hong Kong i will fly there and be the first in line :D, just hope is not the summer time :p

(i agree on hong kong though)

There have been rumors of a Chinese store for over a year now, but as far as I know nothing on a more specific location. Beijing, Shanghai, or Hong Kong - all seem likely locations, but when? My guess, based only on the number of other rumors of international locations that seem farther along, is it won't happen for a couple of years.

new store

Pentagon City in Arlington Virginia
For certain—called by Apple for an interview...

This store has been posted since February, but do you have any indication on an opening date? Good luck on the interview.

Yeah.... i hope they will, cause from this it seems Apple is "pretty" popular there. Also a DG Store in Beijin

God I wish they would put one in my area of PA. Closest one is down near Philadelphia which is a good 50 mile drive from the house. I live in the Lehigh Valley, and don't even have a Comp USA, LOL. We do have an authorized Apple retailer who sells only Apple stuff, but it's not an official store.

Who do I write to at Apple to suggest this would be a GREAT area for a new store! :D

2 years ago in WDC conference, i remember Steve Jobs said that he going to have Apple Stores within 50 miles to everyone in the US. if i remember correctly.

wdlove, while it's not official, there is some confirmation of Video Producer's first week in August prediction for the South Shore store's opening. Gary over at ifoAppleStore is saying the following:

Finally…some movement on the future South Shore Plaza (Mass.) retail store, which started recruiting over a year ago, but was stalled over the 2004 holidays for an unknown reason. Now the project is all hot, and the store should open August 6th.

I don't know why Gary is unaware of the expansion plans that interrupted last winter's opening, but usually he is pretty solid with his tips. Still crossing my fingers. Good luck.

Thank you for the update Sayhey. At least the news is a positive sign of moving forward. Now to see if this delay means something spectacular at the new store.

Salt Lake City

Lately my job agents for Apple's web site have been sending me links to job openings for the Salt Lake store. These were first posted early in the year, and then nothing. I applied for a couple of positions and never heard anything, and then later the posting were gone from the site. Maybe the fact that job postings are back on the site indicate some movement on the store? Judging from the contruction at the mall, I think we're probably looking at the Christmas shopping season. Unfortunately for me (or fortunately), I'm starting school again and won't be able to pursue a job at the Apple Store anymore.

Maybe you could work there during you Christmas break. Or at least pursue a job there for next summer.

Thank you for teh update Sahey. ;)

I'm still hoping for the store to open early next year, because come January I'll have all my vacation back so I can go to the opening. :)

Flatiron and Shibuya news

ifoAppleStore has some interesting news on the state of play for both the Flatiron (New York City) and the Shibuya (Tokyo) stores.

The future Flatiron (NYC) retail store will indeed be located at 136 Fifth Ave., and if Apple's latest design is approved, it will be a two-story mini-store configuration. According to The New York Observer Web site, Apple's first architectural proposal was turned down by the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission after negative reviews from the local Community Board. Now Apple has a second design...check the full details.
Even with this latest Manhattan news, it appears that none of the island stores will be open in time for the holiday shopping season--Flatiron, Mid-Town or any others I may have missed.
The location of the future Shibuya retail store has been pinpointed near the Gap and McDonalds in the glitzy shopping district of Tokyo. he first photos have been posted that show the Apple logo and giant iPod mini posters.

check out the Flatiron location.

Does anyone have any info on when the new Massachusetts stores will be Opening?

The Braintree one? You know, I have become so use to the big Apple logo there that I have even forgotten that one was going in... I realize that they had issues with the construction but come on! My guess is November but the Cambridge store had commented that they expected it to be open last November. (Just looked on the ifoapplestore.com site and saw that they had a projection of June July http://www.ifoapplestore.com/stores/timelines_2005.html )

I would not be surprised if the one on Derby Street opened first. I was in that plaza not to long ago.. prior to the announcment that one was going there.. that building most likely will be a new construction.

I just posted a rumor on the 21st by ifoAppleStore that the South Shore store in Braintree will open on August 6th. It is going on thirteen months now since the first job listings for the Braintree location and is about time for them to open already. The other two, Derby Street and Burlington Mall, have yet to give any indication of opening dates, but I would expect for them to open before Christmas.

I certainly hope that the opening will occur on August 6th. Would like to be able to make my plans to be there.

Apple has begun listing individual job openings for the Fukuoka (Japan) store. This makes the Sendai (Japan) location the only "official" location without individual job listings. The listing of individual jobs marks the countdown to opening which usually takes, now, about 5 to 7 months. The quickest turn around from listings to openings is three months. In the US, Apple often hurries the openings to take advantage of the holiday shopping season, but what this means in Japan is unknown.

One factor to take into account is the projection of 10 international stores by the end of Apple's fiscal year (Sept. 30th.) With 7 stores currently open and the Shibuya (Tokyo, Japan) store likely to open soon, Apple is going to be hard pressed to open the two other stores by it own deadline. In addition to the three Japanese location (Shibuya, Sendai and Fukuoka) there are two upcoming openings in the UK (Manchester and Sheffield.) The three stores will have to come from these five announced locations.

I just wanted to pass a long a big thanks to you Sayhey for all the great work you've been doing in keeping us all informed with the Apple Store openings. I for one appreciate your due diligence and commitment to staying on top of all these Store openings!

There will also be a new Apple Store openning up at the South Hills Village mall in Pittsburgh, PA this September. There is already one in Shadyside, but this one will be a welcome addition none the less!

Here is an update from AppleInsider on the possibility of a Hong Kong store.

Apple Computer is looking to expand its retail initiative to China, an overseas report says.

Earlier this week the South China Morning Post reported that the iPod maker is looking to open three outlets in heart of Hong Kong.

"Apple was eyeing locations for three stores of between 800 square feet and 12,000 square feet," the report says. No further information related to Apple was reported.

A 12,000-square-foot location in China would likely be considered a flagship location even though most US-based stores that fit the flagship profile are nearly twice as large.

Apple began considering a move into China over twelve months ago, as first reported in a Merrill Lynch research note from May 2004.
