ifoAppleStore is reporting a tip that the upcoming Pentagon City store will open on Aug 6th. This is the second store ifoAppleStore is predicting will open that weekend (they also predict the South Shore Plaza opening then) and if it happens it will continue a frenzied pace over the last month. No official word from Apple, but I wouldn't expect any until this weekend at the earliest - Apple plays these things very close to the vest.

That happy day has finally arrived. The grand opening of the Braintree South Shore Apple Store will open Saturday August 9th.

Anyone planning to attend?

wdlove, that's Saturday August 6th, not the 9th! I know it's probably just a typo, but I'd hate to see you miss the opening by three days after all this time.

btw, Apple also announced the opening of the Pentagon City store on August 6th as well. Both stores open at 10:00 am.

edit: this will bring the total number of Apple stores to 118, just 7 shy of Apple's prediction of 125 by the end of the fiscal year. Seems like a very good bet to make their goal. The 10 international stores in the same time frame maybe a bit iffy.

I was at the Braintree Plaza today and the Apple store looks complete, you can see the front of the store from the side... there were also people inside setting up lights, signs, etc.. :D

Thank you for the update. It's great to have physical confirmation. ;)

Fourth Japanese Store

Apple has also announced the opening of the Shibuya store in Tokyo, Japan this weekend - August 6th at 10:00 am. This is the third store scheduled to open on the 6th. This is the fourth Japanese store and the first time Apple has placed a second store in an international city.

Second London Store?

According to the Channel Register Apple is planning on opening a second retail store in London later this year.

Brent Cross to enjoy Apple store

Apple is to open a second London store, following last November's Regent Street opening with a location in the Brent Cross shopping centre "later this year".
The store will be Apple's sixth UK retail site. In April, it opened its second store, in Birmingham's rebuilt Bullring Centre. Last month, saw store three open, in Kent's Bluewater shopping mall.
Plans to open stores four and five, in Sheffield's Meadowhall and Manchester's Trafford Centre, are already proceeding well. Apple began hiring shop staff for these sites in June. It has just begun recruiting for Brent Cross, according to an ad first spotted by Macworld.co.uk.
Apple operates three stores in Japan and a fourth in Canada. During the company's Q2 quarterly results conference, CFO Peter Oppenheimer said the company plans to close its 2005 fiscal year, which ends in September, with ten stores up and running outside the US. With six UK stores open and in preparation, plus the Japanese - there's a fourth store set to open on 7 August, in Shibuya - and Canadian sites, the company should easily meet that target. Apple is also believed to be preparing a Paris store location.

edit: this is now confirmed by Apple's own UK Retail Opportunities web page.

ifoAppleStore relays this interesting bit of information about the upcoming (?) Zurich store.

The German-based MacPrime Web site says that plans for a Zurich (Switzerland) Apple retail store have firmed up--the store will occupy the former Benetton clothing store space on the busy Bahnhofstrasse, home to many high-end retailers.

It's looking as if this may be real, but no word on recruitment for the store yet.

Just for an update Sayhey and anyone interested, I haven't seen anything going on at Providence place. I heard rumor of Apple locating in the soon-to-be closed KB Toys, but I have no idea if this is true or not. The mall's website (http://www.providenceplace.com/) has a coming soon list, but the Apple store doesn't appear to be on it (though they do update it often). I'll have to stop by the mall soon and keep my eye open for vacant spaces and potential apple store locations.

first report

just literally got back from the grand opening at the new apple store at the south shore plaza in braintree, MA

WOW, no wonder they delayed the opening until they could make the store as large as it is... very spacious.

spent 45 mins in the store, got the free t-shirt,. dropped off my sweepstakes entry in a rather cool entry box which resembled the long forgotten apple cube !

staff were extremly helpful, smiles like they were going out of style! staff were certainly more helpful than chesthut hill store, but that's likely because they have to be all smiles and nice on the day, saw some of the chestnut hill staff there helping out.

i'll post a further updated comment later and put the piccies up on flickr/imageshack, heading out to get some breakfast :)

more later

wdlove, I thought you'd have been there for the opening, what happened? When you do make it let us know what you think, ok?

'gator, thanks for the update. I haven't heard anything since the last ifoAppleStore rumors. If I see anything on a Providence opening I'll be sure to post it and you do the same, alright? Thanks again.

Speaking of ifoAppleStore, they seem to have a link of pictures of today's very successful Shibuya store opening from what looks like macrumor's own ironmongoose. Am I right, 'mongoose?

Alright. sounds like a plan. :)

Well, it's not really an Apple Store (Apple Centers are own by others, but agree to a certain look and have a "special relationship" with the company) and it certainly not Paris, but this is interesting.

Apple Computer opens region's first Apple Center in Budapest

Apple Computer has opened its first official Apple Center in Central and Eastern Europe, in Budapest, the company announced. Apple chose Budapest for the centre because of the rapid increase in sales of Apple computers and portable digital music players. Hungarians bought 2,042 Apple computers in the first half of 2005, more than twice as many as in the same period a year earlier. Apple also sold twice as many of its iPod portable digital music players in Q2 2005 as in the first quarter. Apple plans to sell 1,000 iPods a month in Hungary by the end of this year. Sales of the iPod have helped quadruple Apple Computer's earnings over the last year and given the company a 60% share of the global market for portable digital music players.

A very interesting business concept. Wonder how this will differ from the Apple resellers here in the United States? Such as CompUSA.

Apple's "Search Jobs" webpage is now listing individual job openings for the Brent Cross store in London. This puts it on a course for most likely a December to February opening.
