I talked to a rep at the Apple store in Manhattan Beach tonight. She said there's a standing inventory order for the TB-FW adapter for all stores but they're not expecting to start receiving them until the middle to end of next week. Her advise was to order them from the online Apple Store for fastest delivery at the moment. Which, thankfully, I did yesterday.

Ended up placing my order online tonight instead of waiting for it to come to my local store. Bought the gigE one also for my lemur.

The estimated delivery for FW is Aug 8-9 and the gigE is Aug 10-13. Both listed In Stock.

Odd.

i think they are still shipping out of china even though saying in stock.

Yea the FireWire adapters just became available yesterday morning. Stores don't have any yet

I know, thats my point, the FW adapter shipping from China is scheduled to get to my house faster than the gigE adapter from a warehouse in the United States.

Ah I missed that post. It seems like they use air shipping from china which is super quick. So perhaps your gige adapter is going ground

Btw my adapter landed in Memphis a little while ago. So it's almost here

Primarily to connect to my Echo Audiofire4 audio interface. I also have some combined USB 2.0/Firewire 400 external hard discs, but power only seems to work well with Firewire (and its a little faster), so will probably use the Firewire interface with them too, when I need to access them.

Right...right. Many audio interfaces use FW. Thanks!

Just Received my Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter!!

Just received my Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter!! ;) I live in Brooklyn NY

I was supposed to get it Wednesday, then was upgraded to Monday and it just showed up now! That was fast! Ordered it as soon as Mac Rumors posted it as available.

I just tested it and it works great! 100MB disk image file copied in 3.5 seconds. Back and forth from my 160GB Lacie Rugged Drive to my MacBook Air 11.6" 2012.

Do you think the thunderbolt to FireWire adapter could work in reverse? Connect a thunderbolt drive to a FireWire port?

I'm going to try Booting Target Disk Mode from my new MacBook Air 2012 TB to my 2009 iMac FW800 later today. I will let you know how it goes...

Good idea. Just tried it and at first it didn't work because I plugged it in after booting into target disk mode, but tried again already connected and the macbook air showed a firewire icon on its screen and it connected. As far as this working with a regular thunderbolt external drive, do you think it would make a difference? Is it possible that target disk mode has a way of handling it that an external drive can't?

Mine's in Japan right now too. I ordered day one as well. I had high hopes it would arrive early like the others. No dice. I REALLY needed it for Sunday too. I'm in Chicago. :(

ordered mine first thing in the morning when they became available with expedited shipping. Original delivery was for monday afternoon. It just showed up a few minutes ago.

A quick test on my mini show identical read/write speeds for my 7200rpm fw800 drives whether they are connected via fw800 directly or with this adapter.

Firewire has landed

Wow! That was extraordinarily fast. The TB to FW adapter that I ordered early Monday morning (8/1) arrived this morning (8/3). I'm still a bit confused what route it took. The FedEx package tracking information shows it leaving Shenzhen yesterday morning (8/2), clearing customs in Memphis very early this morning, landing in LA at 5AM and delivered to my office at 9:40. I'm fairly certain they shipped the thing by rocket. Some sort of secret Thunderbolt-Firewire powered rocket.

The confusing bit is that the packing slip and label listed a sender address of Apple's Elk Grove (Sacramento), California distribution facility. I have to assume that's actually the "return to" address in case the package was undeliverable.

I ordered mine and am having overnighted to me through my FedEx account...120 bucks but I need it...can't wait
Really? I'm sad to say I think that was a waste of about $110. The standard Apple expedited shipping uses FedEx. Mine arrived in two days from China.

Yea I was pretty shocked as well. Took just as long for my back to school gift card to show up from sc as it did my adapter to fly from china to dc
