Does anyone know if the Netflix app uses the current Netflix UI used everywhere? My current Apple HD still uses the old old version on the app
Yeah, I'm quite surprised that's still not there... 😢I wanted spatial audio for Air Pods Max.
I think there's a lot of pent-up demand for a "fresh" Apple TV, and a refresh was long overdue. It's an almost meaningless upgrade for anybody with a 2017 Apple TV 4K, but potential new customers definitely aren't going to be too keen on shelling out money for a four-year-old product. Not sure why Apple was in such a hurry to release an update this boring.
I'm in the demo that would buy this in a second but the processor on my Apple TV 4k is not a problem for me.
Your TV might have apps built-in, but the manufacturer will end support far sooner than Apple will for the ATV. The ATV HD for instance was released in 2015. Tell me how many manufacturers are still updating their TVs from that year. Built in apps also require the use of (e)ARC if you have a separate audio setup, which is undesirable to A/V enthusiasts. I'll take a separate device directly into the receiver every day of the week.It should be cheaper first of all; it’s just a streaming box while most new TVs have built in Apple TV and Disney plus etc so what’s the real reason for it; they should make it more of a dongle type thing and way cheaper, I have the LG cx I never used Apple TV after that as it has it all built in
You can't disconnect it from your Wi-Fi entirely, but you can block it from getting out onto the internet by firewalling it at your router. HomeKit only requires local LAN access, as it works through an Apple Home Hub like the Apple TV or a HomePod (or even an iPad if you have one that stays at home). Can I do that if I want to enable Homekit features of my TV? I guess not
If you have Home Screen sync enabled in your Apple TV Settings, it should download it from iCloud when you first set it up. At least, that's the theory — I haven't tried it in a while.Question for new ATV4K users - set-up: is it simply unplug the current ATV4K then plug and play the new one, or is there a first-boot option to import the current 'desktop' and apps most recently used by previous 4K ATV?
Yes, but the key here is that you need to disconnect your smart TV from having access to the internet, i.e. switch the WiFi off.Question as a non-Apple TV user: will using an Apple TV bypass "smart tv" privacy concerns? I.e. will Samsung or Sony still be able to monetize/track our family's viewing, etc? Or does it essentially allow the TV to be dumb?

Yep, about as useless as a closet full of J.D. Power awards, the best awards money can buy.Same garbage reviewers..lol
How could you actually lose your remote? Temporarily misplace it, sure. It’s under a pillow or slid beside a couch cushion etc. But to lose it such that you have to replace it? Seriously??All I really wanted in the new version was some type of “find me” alarm in the damned remote. It’s the only one we lose routinely - and they’re disproportionately expensive to replace!
That's the main reason I buy it.Question as a non-Apple TV user: will using an Apple TV bypass "smart tv" privacy concerns? I.e. will Samsung or Sony still be able to monetize/track our family's viewing, etc? Or does it essentially allow the TV to be dumb?
They're called children. This is a pretty common problem. How could you actually lose your remote? Temporarily misplace it, sure. It’s under a pillow or slid beside a couch cushion etc. But to lose it such that you have to replace it? Seriously??
See now you’re changing your tune.It should be cheaper first of all; it’s just a streaming box while most new TVs have built in Apple TV and Disney plus etc so what’s the real reason for it; they should make it more of a dongle type thing and way cheaper, I have the LG cx I never used Apple TV after that as it has it all built in
There’s a setting in your current Apple TV‘s settings app, that says something like “sink Home screens across Apple TV’s.”Question for new ATV4K users - set-up: is it simply unplug the current ATV4K then plug and play the new one, or is there a first-boot option to import the current 'desktop' and apps most recently used by previous 4K ATV?
My TCL Roku tv is connected to allow HomeKit/Siri commands to turn on/off the set. Unless I’m gaming I never touch the TV remote, only need the Apple TV remote. The only reason your TV would need to be hooked up to the internet would be for updates, or if you use it to directly stream TV shows. Thing is, you can pretty much expect streaming boxes of any make or model to track your viewing habits.
In one of the most ugly ways possible. Take that sleek remote and make it thick and ugly. Then buy an airtag and an airtag case for the remote.
Lucky you
Mine is massive — about 500 movies and over 100 TV shows (which works out to several thousand individual episodes), and it loads pretty quickly even on my 2015 Apple TV HD. It's definitely more about the network connection than the Apple TV hardware, and it's worth noting that the 2021 Apple TV 4K will support Wi-Fi 6 plus a Gigabit Ethernet port which should improve things on that end even more.
Well one of the biggest things would have been find my remote. Taping a airbag on the remote is just uglier than the airbag remote cases.Let’s hear a list of things you think could have been done
Hi end streamer. Lol.Your TV might have apps built-in, but the manufacturer will end support far sooner than Apple will for the ATV. The ATV HD for instance was released in 2015. Apple also isn't going after the cheap end of the market with this device. The flagship ATV should be a device that's priced at the upper-end of streaming devices because that's exactly what it is, a high-end streamer. That being said, I will say they should've priced the ATV HD at $100 to compete in the mid-tier of the space. At only $30 cheaper than the 4K, $150 for the HD is big a rip off.
I have a TV that doesn't allow switching the WiFi off so I had to make a temporary SSID, switch the set to the temp SSID then delete the temp SSID from my router.Yes, but the key here is that you need to disconnect your smart TV from having access to the internet, i.e. switch the WiFi off.
This way, the TV cannot report on you to outside servers and the Apple TV functions as your gateway to all streaming services.
Agreed.Such a minor update no one is gonna use the hfr anyways, apple could of done more to upgrade this
