I had an Apple TV years ago, but for the past three years I've been using the built-in apps in my LG TV. I haven't had a lot of motivation to get an Apple TV again, and since the current model is now as old as my smart TV, I can only keep waiting. I do wonder whether there is some kind of hybrid Home/TV device coming to replace it, though. Changing the name of the streaming service to "Apple TV" started to make me question whether another "Apple TV" was in the works.

I can relate. I just wasted 5 minutes closing and opening Apple Music and rebooting my Studio so Airplay would stop playing through the monitor speakers, even though it's set to play through my Sonos speakers. Ugh. Seems like that happens every few days.

I continue to be concerned the ATV hardware will get the axe.
Yep the first two things are important. I couldn't care less about Siri. Especially if Google gets my data. I'll just turn it off anyway. But yeah.. audio passthrough is a must or I stick with the nvidia shield, even though I would rather be on Apple.... DV2 would be cool / nice to have.
There should be a class action suit filed against Apple for false advertising regarding the status of Apple AI and using it to unethically boost iPhone 16 sales.

Now that the new unreleased Apple TV is old, when does the newer Apple TV come out?
Seriously, technology keeps moving and the new M5, A19 then M6, A20, A21 chips will be out. Has Apple already made these Apple TVs and they have been sitting in a warehouse for months or will they be made with maybe newer tech when they're ready to be released. Seeing the article state that they could be released between April and September is getting close to almost a year old if these devices have already been made and are just sitting around.

Poor Tim...this will be his legacy - maintaining incremental product updates, making updates to future products dependent on a service, and then failing to deliver the service. There is nothing 'magical' about any of this.

I certainly hope they do get it sorted out and able to ship it (the Apple TV) soon enough. I'd like to replace two of my old ATV's and add a 3rd one as well.

DolbyVision 2?? Meh... barely any of today's TV's can even display the 1st gen DolbyVision.
How about multichannel HomePod's? A serious surround HomePod set would be something. Should be possible with a proper 802.11ax (Wifi6) or 802.11be (wifi7) basestation. Not the crap most ISP's sell us.

HomePod mini is the best product I have ever bought for $150. It is a smart speaker, it’s is a fire detector, it is Climate control system in the room (temperature and humidity sensors). Oh, and it is a radio station if you want without any single ads and it’s completely free. Come one show me those all options on the market in one device … nuh

I have one and I kinda think it's worthless. It does everything you listed, somewhat okay, but doesn't work for anyone outside of the Apple ecosystem (half my household). We mainly use it as a secondary temp sensor for the thermostat in our home office.
I was using it as a Homekit bridge, but gave up on Homekit about a year ago.

It's probably bordering on too cynical, but I wouldn't be surprised if they keep delaying doing any updates while they keep running through already manufactured old stock.
My old TV died this year and we went with a Roku TV and no longer need the Apple TV. Having a solid built in UI is fantastic and can’t be beat, IMO. I really like Apple TV, but the built-in Roku has proven to be an upgrade in many ways.
