I’m in. Living in the desert the outdoor pergola tv can gather a lot of dust, any device that doesn’t require a fan is welcomed

Velcro, glue, mount, duct tape, zip ties??? Sounds like wasting materials LOL
For all you guys know the new model will have some rubber feet added to negate this issue. No use in arguing over what MIGHT be a problem, just wait till you have it and THEN complain :rolleyes:

They cut thread support and Ethernet “for the environment”. Anyone who complains doesn’t care about “the environment”.
However, the Ethernet on the 1080p ATV I have is slower than it’s WiFi, so it was not used on either of my 2 units. Now that the new one goes to WiFi 6 2x2 MIMO, even the Gigbit port is not really a value add over being a hard connection.

the old one has rubber feet. it doesn't help. he isn't wrong about the ATV moving around easily. But Apple is not going to add 20 lbs so it doesn't move. :). One has to "mount" it themselves if it bugs.

I'll be honest...for all the complaining I'm doing about the new Apple TV I'm very likely going to buy it because I like to have the latest model since it is something I used just about daily :)

M1 iPad pro to M2 iPad Pro .... that is a bit tougher

I just lifted my 2021 ATV4K and there aren't any rubber feet. It's also super heavy and doesn't move at all. That being said, I doubt that they would make the new one without taking stability into consideration, I'm sure it'll be fine.

Oh you're right. Just looked at mine. I thought the bottom was rubberish material. Mine just sits loosely behind my tv on the wall. It's my old one (lighter one) that i remember moving around in the media center. Probably doesn't have rubber feet either.

And saying it doesn't move at all...well I never had a problem with it but I would disagree about that because we are talking about when you pull on a cable or have a stiff thick HDMI cable connected to it that wants to move whatever it is connected to if is curved a bit. I'm not complaining about it myself. But it is a thing.

A bit silly that they bothered to make it smaller and lighter. In fairness, does make it easier to stick it on the back of a TV instead of with the other larger hardware. I have the previous 2 generations and the chance of me upgrading this go around is slim. The last one is a great model, so the only people I see buying this are people who either their first one or and additional one for a new TV. They should be low power mac mini.

I mean yeah, if you yank a cord it's attached to it'll move but idk of any product I own that wouldn't do the same. Really not a big deal if you ask me but to each their own.

Is there any use buying this if you:

A) Already have an Apple TV HD? and;
B) Don’t have a 4k TV (but have plans to get one eventually)?

I only use it to watch shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I don’t play music on it much, nor do I game on it. I think that’s because I know that trying to do so will be painful given the old A8 (?) chip in it. If I had more performance behind it I might be tempted to do more with it.

The Original ATV4 that you have is still over-speced for a TV box. Most of the upgrades seem to be focused on the gaming factor but the reality is gaming is unlikely to be a big thing on the ATV, it's a fairly big port to take a Playstation, Xbox, Switch or PC game and port it to TVOS and at the price the userbase just isn't big enough to justify it. It either needs Apple to throw money at studios to port big AAA titles or they actually need price cuts even bigger than we see here or on the gaming front its really only ever going to be ios/ipados ports.

So sure the extra power makes things a little snappier on the average person's use but the reason to upgrade to any of the 4K ones is if you need the better Video and Audio formats and if in your case you don't it's not worth it. If you do plan to get a 4K tv but not right away just wait for somewhere to have a sale on it (or wait for refurbished ones to land on the Apple refurb store, or even just pick up a 1st or 2nd gen 4K if you don't need HDR10+)
