Any update to the remote? I bought the 2021 ATV, and didn't like the new remote. The volume buttons make too much of a "click" sound when pressed, and they removed the "touch" option for navigating menus. You have to actually swipe. l switched back to the old remote after about a week.

Is there any use buying this if you:

A) Already have an Apple TV HD? and;
B) Don’t have a 4k TV (but have plans to get one eventually)?

I only use it to watch shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I don’t play music on it much, nor do I game on it. I think that’s because I know that trying to do so will be painful given the old A8 (?) chip in it. If I had more performance behind it I might be tempted to do more with it.
I'm in the same boat. my Apple TV HD still works perfectly attached to 720p plasma TV so not sure I'll benefit from this upgrade...unless I've missed a feature from the article

PS: my Apple TV box seats tidily on my TV stand and I like the aesthetic of the bulk

50% lighter! amazing. I always wanted to carry the Apple TV around my house for no reason. This will make my life easy now.

I see no reason to buy a new one when my current 4K ATV is doing everything I need it to do.

i see no reason for comments like this to exist. i dont understand what goes through people's heads when they go to write these.

it's like a person walking by with an YSL bag, and telling them "i see no reason to buy that when my current bag fits everything i need."

...okay...so dont get it, but why are you under the impression anyone needs to know you're not going to buy that.

"i see no need to buy your lamborghini when my car drives the same 45mph on the backroads here!"

boy arent you clever.

Are you serious? Are iPads and iPhones installed behind TVs or in cabinets while running at full power? TF?

We have two ATV 4K 2017 units and they don’t get that warm or even hot when in use for films or games.
One is sitting in a small cabinet and the other in a holder on the back of a TV.

I might consider upgrading because of the A15, all though the A10 still runs the ATV butter smooth.

Our ATV’s are in daily use; its the one and only media receiver, as we’ve cut the cord in 2017

I do take mine when I travel. It's not a lot, but I guess that's why weight would be a factor for some people. I have the 2017 and I already thought that model was pretty light.

Hostile much? Generational upgrades are not immediately apparent, and if an older model fits a person's use case, it might be helpful to others in the same situation.

Not everyone is an attention seeker

No update other than usb-c port instead of lightning.

That's still very concerning for lots of types of installations. It's great that the A15 is efficient enough to not need a fan, but what about when the Apple TV is installed behind a TV or in a cabinet or any of the myriad of ways people normally hook this up where ventilation is low?

I'm not a mechanical engineer; but if you install something with a fan inside a cabinet, where is the air flow supposed to go?

The main reason to buy this Apple TV is for HDR10+ if you own Samsung TV's. I have two of them, so I might update the ones I have. Other than that, the only other reason to buy this would be if you didn't have a HomePod mini or prior Apple TV 2021 to support having a Matter hub.

The only scenario where i think the fan could be useful in the Apple TV is Apple Arcade, which was not a great experience on the A12 model (good, but not seamless, Fantasian for instance had insane frame drops from time to time due to throttling). Imagine in this fanless model what might happen with the heavy games. A15 is a big upgrade from A12, but maybe is throttled due to heat.

For the rest of usages, the prior Apple TV 4K (A12 model, even the A10X one) is perfectly fine.
