Do we know anything about when a new Apple TV device of any type will be released?
Any rumours?
Just add the ability to Bitstream audio, but alas this will never happen because the ATV is a streaming box and doesn’t cater for the movie enthusiast with their own libraries. For the love of God. DTS!!!! Update the store catalog too! So many movies have been converted from DTS to Dolby. Give us back the original audio format!!!
Put my fiber internet to work and give us higher bitrate audio too for those that can handle it! We got 4K when most people couldn’t stream it, now fix the audio!
I can count the number of times I've said 'dang why isnt this youtube video in 4k 120hz', zero. And I own an ungodly amount of movies UHD/Bluray.The big issue with this new box having the A17 Pro chip and not A18 or later is the lack of 4K 120.
If I remember and recall correctly the A17 Pro cannot handle output of 4K @ 120.
I hope I have this wrong.
It’s a premium device and to not have 120 in 2025 is not good at all.
If it wants to end the debate on who has the best streaming product and service it needs to output the best shows in the best format.
Within a couple of yrs we will have the adoption of HDMI 2.2 & maybe even 8K TV’s that will be for the next box.
But this one may not even be up to date for what is available NOW.
Anyone else feel that Apple need to do better with this product.
It’s not about YouTube but all video from all streaming services as well as TV & Games.I can count the number of times I've said 'dang why isnt this youtube video in 4k 120hz', zero. And I own an ungodly amount of movies UHD/Bluray.
Is 120hz important for PC gamers? Sure. For streaming and watching Tv/Movies, the spec-obsession is really overblown.
It’s not about YouTube but all video from all streaming services as well as TV & Games.
You can see the difference if you have a good TV & Apple users tend to have good TV’s from my personal experiences.
It’s not a snobby attitude but a practical one.
4K 120 on the iPhone but not on a big screen is such a contradiction.
again, what content are people pining to watch is actually recorded in 120hz?my hope is that apple starts to improve their content quality, with perhaps downloadable options to have better picture/audio quality on 4k. Im not interested in Kaleidescape for the sheer costs but maybe apple can move a little in that direction.
Dont know, I’m not talking about 120hz, I rarely play games and my oled is 60hz only.again, what content are people pining to watch is actually recorded in 120hz?
the AppleTV can already playback full bitrate UHD 4k files ripped directly from discs.
agree higher bitrate downloads would be appreciated.
Stuff they've recorded on their iPhones at 4k120?again, what content are people pining to watch is actually recorded in 120hz?

Studios are not going to allow 4K downloads.my hope is that apple starts to improve their content quality, with perhaps downloadable options to have better picture/audio quality on 4k. Im not interested in Kaleidescape for the sheer costs but maybe apple can move a little in that direction.
No, but they could use increased bitrates for those that can handle it. Some sort of lossless audio format would also be a plus.Studios are not going to allow 4K downloads.
You mean aside from Kaleidescape?Studios are not going to allow 4K downloads.
The downside of Kalaidescape is you can’t link it to something like Movies Anywhere to get the digital copy. The upside is I can rip my BD collection, but damn, I’d spend a fortune rebuilding my library.😳. Equipment and library rebuild would be pushing $100k.You mean aside from Kaleidescape?
Kaleidescape is a very niche product. Apple/Google/Amazon are in a much different situation as they need the all of the content they can license from the studios and at the cheapest rate. The studios have much more power in this situation and have been very adamant since the switch to 4K that they aren't keen to allow downloads. You mean aside from Kaleidescape?
I disagree. Most of the benefits of high bitrate disc-based media come on static scenes or when you start pixel peeping. If you are actually watching the film, in motion 90% of audience will not see any noticable difference between a 4K stream and a 4K disc, which is exactly the market that Apple is going for.I saw a video that explained the picture quality difference between all video formats streamed v a Blu ray and streaming is inferior by about 7x or 8x not even remotely close.
Read this:I’d like to see a slot loading UHD Blu-ray player that is that small. Send me the link!!!
Would have to be around 15cm x 15 cm
or 6” x 6”. One of those would be fantastic.
I have access to masses of UBD & regular Blu-ray disks
In all seriousness has there been any solid rumours and/or specs on this new Apple TV 4K device?
How about an increase in length and width of the box to the same as an iMac mini 2010 and having a detachable/separate but matching & linkable UHD Blu ray slot drive playable through the Apple TV 4K box,
it 100% won’t happen but it would solve all the picture quality issues with Streaming top quality Audio and Video content.
May many people would buy that I guarantee it.
I saw a video that explained the picture quality difference between all video formats streamed v a Blu ray and streaming is inferior by about 7x or 8x not even remotely close.
But in the real world a sub 100 box A18 Pro and a sub 75 HDMI Stick A18 and Apple would be the streaming leader overnight.
Those are $/€/£ figures.
Throw in a Pro Box & they could charge whatever.
Put it on a screen 77” or larger.I disagree. Most of the benefits of high bitrate disc-based media come on static scenes or when you start pixel peeping. If you are actually watching the film, in motion 90% of audience will not see any noticable difference between a 4K stream and a 4K disc, which is exactly the market that Apple is going for.
It's similar to AAC audio vs CD - most people can't tell the difference.
Rightly or wrongly, physical media is dying off to the point that UHD BluRay will very likely be the last physical format. As someone that grew up collecting CDs and then DVDs, I'm saddened by this as I feel that subscription streaming makes people appreciate each album or film less. At the same time, I do not miss the hassle of storing physical media and the non-skippable ads and logos that studios crammed on to physical discs.
