Except the consumer is buying a product as is. It is the consumers choice to decide if the value to price ratio of the product is viable for them and then don't buy the product if it isn't.

I love this change personally for the fact that I do not need to pay for the inclusion of the new cable as I have plenty of USB-C cables lying around that I am not even using. Just like how I have over 10+ Lightning Cables lying around from the years of new iPhones, Apple TV's, AirPods and other accessories like Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse.

I’m conflicted honestly
On one hand this is comically stingy, on the other I’m drowning in USB and Lightning cables

Rechargeable remote would have been fine if they made it wireless. Apple seems to take 2 steps forward and then 1 step backward always! It's like going to a burger joint for just the patty with no bun or condiments.

After some sleep and time to think about this issue, the only way both sides can be pleased is if Apple went back to the replaceable battery remote on the 3rd Gen and older Apple TV.

In absence of that, Apple should make the remote Qi-certified. That’s the reason I don’t have any USB-C cables. I don’t have any devices which accept USB-C, but I have a few which charge wirelessly. I have a few wireless charging pads.

I see we reached another day of people defending Apple for finding a sneaky and crappy way to pad their margins a bit more.
Don't you think, even a little bit, that producing less, having less could be a smidge better for the environment than what you are opting for? Regardless of the motivations of Apple.

If they included the cable there would be a 200+ comment post complaining that it’s not actively cooled 🤦‍♂️😂
I'm curious how much it will matter. I honestly never knew the earlier ones even had fans like someone else stated

Yeah. So they should really do something about that instead of removing chargers from boxes while encouraging people to get a new iPhone every year
They have a recycle system for ALL parts of an iPhone.

Can you imagine the whingers on here if they announced that because they have the fastest, most efficient phones in the world, they would miss 2023 to allow others to catch up? 😂😂

Seriously, they’ve clearly done the right thing here for the environment even if they make an extra 50c per unit.

Let’s be sensible here. Apple have to make money. There’s always going to be an environmental impact to making and selling products, but unless we want the global economy to stop and millions or billions of people to lose their jobs, making and selling products has to happen.

Theres only so much Apple can do within the confines of needing to make and sell products. Removing superfluous items from their boxed products is one such thing they can easily do that still has a big impact on the amount of product manufactured without impacting their profitability.

It doesn’t have to matter for people to make a big deal about it. It’s just people wanting to complain about something. Sometimes if you give them something very noticeable and easy they’ll take the bait.
I guess new customers to the ecosystem have a valid point about having to purchase a cable and possibly a charger. Most here are not and have a stash of unused ones. With over 2 billion iPhones and 500 million iPads sold, there’s a lot of cables and chargers unused and tossed. Especially when the shift to USB C happens and wireless charging use increases. So ramping down makes sense. Nah, Apple is a greedy hateful company out to crush your soul, from reading comments. 😏

So I can take every hedge trimmer manufacturer to court for not providing an extension cord? You literally can’t use it without a cord. Why have you not been protesting in the streets? Are you going to take every technology manufacturer to court that doesn’t include a HDMI/DisplayPort/VGA cable? I literally need the cable to hook the device up.

Oh wait I’m an adult I own extension cords and cables. Type-C is a standard. Just like all the cables I have listed. If it was a lightning remote that only works on Apple products you would have a leg to stand on. You don’t.

Let me know how the lawsuits go.
Youre mixing apples and oranges here.

1. Every manufacturer will provide you a cable to hook your screen(hdmi, vga, etc.). Otherwise you wouldnt be able to use it. But imagine buying a computer screen or TV without a cable to even power up the damn thing.

2. I am very happy that youre an adult, and that you own other cables. But what about people, that dont own any usb-c cable? You really think everybody has one lying around in their house? Lets not fool ourselves here, if all you ever bought in last 10 years were iPhone, Macbook and Apple Watch, you didnt get any USB-c cables. And now suddenly you need one in order to even use the device!

3. I'm sure somebody somewhere in USA will popup, and sue apple for this, because they actually have a case here - Apple has sold them a device, for which they have no means of charging it, and eventually using it. What you have, because youre an adult, doesnt mean that everybody else is in the same position.

1- imagine. Yes. But that’s not what’s happening here. So there is no point bringing it up.

2- but that’s the point. It saves needless waste. Giving everyone one is extremely wasteful even if only 25% have a cable they can use already. But the figure is no doubt higher than that. Ergo, if you need it, buy it.

3- that’s a daft assumption. Very, very few things come with, for example AA batteries. And if they do, when they run out the customer is ‘forced’ to buy more. The fact of the matter is there is no grounds even for the most frivolous of lawsuits here. The fact it’s been mentioned just goes to show that absolutely terrible state of the situation in this regard. Particularly in the US as this is pretty much the only place where this kind of thing can and probably will happen.
