Sometimes i'm really surprised by people like you, that fail to see any problems due to their blind love for a company. Doesnt matter if you have iPad, iPhone, iMac, Macbook or you have a god damn factory in your backyard that produces USB-C cables, seller MUST provide you a cable for charging a device that you bought.

I wont be surprised if somebody brings Apple to court for this due them selling a product that you have no way of charging.
Why must they? Isn’t the whole point for you to use your existing chargers and cables to reduce the amount that need to be manufacturered?

A TV remote that requires a charging cable.
smh!

Isn’t that the perfect candidate for wireless charging, Apple?!

Seems like they can’t innovate anymore.
Exactly! Apple could have added wireless charging to apple tv box so you could use it to charge remote, earpods, iphone or whatever you like. That would be some added value to product.

I can see why Apple did it, to clean up one more aggravation in their supply chain, but it really is an step that gives a feeling of unnecessary cheapness. However, if it doesn't come with an HDMI cable, either, that's what could have been expected.

The real poke-in-the-eye is the quoted Apple USB C cable at many times the regular cost of even reputable multi-cable packs.

Won't keep me from upgrading, especially since I don't need to also buy an 'upgraded' controller to replace the really miserable one they used to offer ..., and I had to buy separately ...

Not every Apple product needs to come with a charger or even a charging cable. Someone getting an Apple TV likely already has numerous other Apple products and doing this for every single Apple product gets wasteful very quickly.

I’m guessing 95%+ of the people who commented on this post already own multiple charging cables.

It really is environmentally significant to not include a cable when the majority of ATV purchasers already have a few. For the small minority of ATV purchasers who are just entering the Apple ecosystem, a charging cable is a small additional price — especially if they buy a 3rd-party cable.

It's not a lightning cable - the remote requires USB-C - a totally different cable. That's been the argument in this entire thread.

The Apple TV remote is USBC, not lightning.

But the point still stands. Many people, and the EU, want Apple to switch to the 'standard' USBC connection, precisely because it allows people to use their existing cables and charges with Apple devices.

The remote lasts for months between charges, so this is something that is going to bite people sometime next year.

I really don't understand why Apple can't include a freaking $2 charging cable. This is a whole new level of stingy.
Easy, they can sell it for $19

That is because... Apple is working hard in the new AppleTV ULTRA, Same Apple TV but now with USB-C cable. Wait a for a few months at a low price $199.

So I can take every hedge trimmer manufacturer to court for not providing an extension cord? You literally can’t use it without a cord. Why have you not been protesting in the streets? Are you going to take every technology manufacturer to court that doesn’t include a HDMI/DisplayPort/VGA cable? I literally need the cable to hook the device up.

Oh wait I’m an adult I own extension cords and cables. Type-C is a standard. Just like all the cables I have listed. If it was a lightning remote that only works on Apple products you would have a leg to stand on. You don’t.

Let me know how the lawsuits go.

Somehow saying anything that’s not AGAINST a company means you’re a sheeple and can’t think for yourself.

These are the same people that have been bitching about Lightning for years and now they are complaining about the lack of a cable MOST of the world has at home.

That's forum life, everywhere you go. If you disagree with the general brand of a forum, you're a whiner or complainer. If you agree with the general brand of a forum, you're a fanboi or a sheep. Either way, those folks are unable to think for themselves.

It's best to not respond to folks who bring forth that mentality.

if I was a judge and that was bought to me I would laugh in their face. Why do adults insist on acting like children?

No way of charging…” 😂😂

LOL…so for those without a spare USB-C cable lying around (which is likely a sizable group of people that exists, believe it or not) it isn’t really cheaper. It would be sensible for Apple to include such a cable for, as @Diamond Dog put it, pennies on the dollar at wholesale prices rather than foist yet another cost onto the far less well-endowed customer.

Classic shrinkflation.
It’s not shrinkflation at all. You have no idea what you are even saying. Shrinkflation is when you get less product for the same amount of money. Here - Apple gives you $20 less product for $20 less money. It’s a wash. If anything… you are saving $20 on the device, and then the consumer has the option to go buy an even cheaper USB-C cable from Amazon or somewhere and actually come out ahead?

"Your honor, I realize they told me up front that the charging cable was not included, but I bought it anyway and would now like them punished for selling it to me!"

Not sure why you'd laugh at that. Sounds legit to me. 🤣 /s

Well, not really. People who have blind love for a company is just as entitled to an opinion as the most ardent detractors. This proves the seller doesn't have to provide a charger or cable.

Not going to happen. Just like "batteries not included":
