How would you? 99% sure you won’t be able to. Volume mute and power button is all
I would love to have input select somehow built in because that's the only thinng I now still need to use my TV remote for. All my video comes through the ATV, but I still use inputs for PS4 and Switch. But yeah, I don't see how that could work well. Maybe long-press the power button, it brings up an input select menu with 5 buttons or something where you use the trackpad/cursor buttons to select the input, then it translates that to the IR for the TV? I don't think it can pass that through the HDMI cable directly like power command.

Would be able to control TV functions other than on/off and mute? Can't find it on the website. Might be a nice replacement remote just for the TV.
Website says this remote now has IR rather than just bluetooth, but other than controlling things with siri like before, there are as you can see no additional buttons for controlling anything other than what you see. It of course has CEC so like the previous versions turning it on will turn on other CEC devices and an control volume from the reciever for instance.

Get a harmony hub and use a HomeKit app called HomeKit bridge on your Mac if you have one.
I control changing inputs and everything with Siri Now. Just say turn on appletv main and turns on everything changes inputs. Works great.

To change input that would require that they maintain a database of IR codes and or bluetooth controls for newer IP controllable tvs. Something I'm sure they would have mentioned if they planned on making it a universal remote. Having input controls and a control for say changing audio setting on recivers, or one click buttons to netflix, hulu, etc like most new tv remotes would have been nice, but imagine it was hard enough for them at apple to budge from their ultra minimal previous remote to this new one, so don't see them going further. Would have loved a couple programable buttons one could set apple shortcuts too which would open endless possibilies alas they didn't.

Apple should make this remote can be paired with iPad & Mac as well. It would be cool to control music and video on iMac from far like the old white iMac with the old infrared Apple remote.

This is an improvement my wife will be excited about. I wish it had built in airTag support though.

I don’t mind the current remote when pairs with a SideClick. Assuming SideClick still makes a model for this new remote design, I’m sure I’ll be getting a new remote.

But will the "Siri" Remote support Siri in more regions? The previous "Siri" Remote was not sold as Siri Remote in most of the world. It was sold as Apple TV Remote because, for whatever reason, Siri on tvOS has the same limitations as Siri on the HomePod, where it doesn't support even close to the same amount of languages as it does on iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

This new remote is being branded as "Siri Remote" in my country. In my native language, we have yet to receive any support for Siri on tvOS. Does this mean we will finally see support in tvOS 14.5/15 using this new remote? Why is there such a lack of information regarding these new products? The product page on my countries Apple Store doesn't tell anything.

The remote looks great, but the A12 is a very miner upgrade from the A10X. I think it might even be worse when it comes to graphics. They should have done this years ago, or given us an A13/A14 now.

So they announce a brand new remote AND Air Tags at the same even, but they don't put an Air Tag inside the remote?!?! Missed opportunity there. I mean the current remote is so awful a ton of people are going to buy the new one regardless, but you put a U1 chip in it and it is truly a magical device.

I can’t fathom how Apple can look this disconnected between its own product releases within the same announcement window.

It looks like this new Siri Remote will be lacking Ultrawide-Band. The new Apple TV 4K (Gen.2) will not feature support for Spatial Audio, so AirPods Pro and AirPods Max users are still out of luck when using their devices with the brand new 2021 Apple TV.

I understand why other companies that are far more disconnected than Apple cannot streamline features and functionality. But Apple is doing all of this in-house. There is no reason why a new Apple Remote and a new Apple TV released in 2021 should not feature Ultrawide Band and Spatial Audio. This is supposed to be one of Apple’s greatest strengths compared to the competition.

No mention of whether or not this remote has a U1 chip built-in? I'd sure like the ability to locate my remote when my toddlers hide it in the couch cushions, or in their box of toys, or at the bottom of the box of Cheerios.

Ahh, what about the Menu button? We use that all the time in YouTubeTV and other apps (we do not use the TV app).

I know it only needs to be charged a few times a year but I would love if it had wireless charging. I naturally place my remote down on my charging pad already!

I have the 2017 ATV and have never charged the remote. It’s still hanging at around 10%. For most of its life, I’ve used my Harmony remote.
