I use a Polk soundbar for my TV audio, and in ATV settings, I have "Control TV & Receivers" set to ON, and "Volume Control" set to "Polk via IR." The volume works with the new remote (as it did with the old), but the Mute button does nothing. Any suggestions?

FIXED: Re-"learned" remote with Mute command.

I have the new remote and it DOES NOT have an option to control three TVs power with the new power button. The new button just mimics the sleep functionality. So it still relies on HDMI CEC to control power of the TV which is unfortunate as my TV does not support CEC to turn off (only to turn on). The new mute button however can be programmed as per the volume buttons to control IR in the same way the previous remote did. Hopefully they add power to the IR.

May 24th, 2021: tvOS 14.6 currently has no options for the new Siri remote Power button to learn IR codes. Hopefully this will be fixed soon in a future tvOS.

If you need the Power button to be able to send IR commands.
Please
report it to Apple (link below), hopefully they will fix it if they get enough requests. I asked for the Power button to control at least 2 devices (TV and audio equipment) via IR. And Learning IR for Discrete Power On/Off and Toggle Power On/Off and Discrete switch to desired HDMI input. Shouldn't be that hard for Apple they are already doing the IR Learning for Volume + - and Mute.
Feedback - Apple TV - Apple

Apple promised Power IR control, but so far it is missing.
On the Apple TV 4K Tech Specs it states “Control your TV or receiver via IR or CEC”. With a footnote (3): "Powering on and off, switching input to Apple TV, controlling volume, and mute.

Power Button and IR status & Temporary Workaround.

I submitted feedback and also opened a case with Apple Support, but wont have much luck getting it escalated to engineering and a result out of it as the wording is different on the AU website. People in the US should escalate this to Apple as the wording clearly says IR should also be able to control those functions of the TV.

3. Requires compatible TV or AV receiver.

Big YouTube app update/resdesign showed up on my ATV yesterday. Doesn't seem functionally better, but the GUI is different. I still miss any way to see the video's description/notes. And, of course, hate that there's no "Watch Now" integration. (I don't think this is really off-topic, right?)

Apple Australia:

That is very interesting that the wording for footnote 3 is different on the Australian Apple website. Thanks for sharing this. After I read your post I started looking at Footnote 3 of Apple TV 4K Tech Specs for different countries.
New Zealand has same wording as Australia.

Canada, UK, Ireland have the same wording as USA: (3) Powering on and off, switching input to Apple TV, controlling volume and mute.

Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Luxembourg when translated have the same wording as USA. Same for Mexico and Caribbean.

I think it's encouraging that all these countries (except Australia and New Zealand) say:
Control your TV or receiver via IR or CEC (3).
Footnote (3) Powering on and off, switching input to Apple TV, controlling volume and mute.

HBO Max seems to have changed its interface so that most Apple TV commands don't work: skip forward or back does nothing, swipe down on the touchpad doesn't reveal the usual menu, etc. Instead, that menu is on the right of the screen, activated by a new onscreen button. It's awful, and ridiculously different from every other app.

I concur, the directional buttons do nothing. As of right now I can’t navigate in a video, only play and pause. HBO needs to fix this ASAP.
What onscreen button? I don’t see any button or menu.

If you swipe down, the time appears lower-left, a play button (a play button?!) appears in the center, and a captions-looking bubble appears lower-right. Click on it, and in slides—from the damned right—a menu of subtle and audio options. It has absolutely nothing to do with the functionality or interface of the way you operate any other channel or app.

An article on the switch and its stupidity

Honestly, it's like the damned Wild West, with users left in the dust. Apple is usually so strict, and I can't believe how many Apple TV apps are allowed to use different gestures, commands, and GUI layouts. Drives my fingers crazy.
