If that's the case, they're better off with Android devices. Nothing sets one iDevice apart from the other.

Exactly this. They all have a very slightly different version of Android making them easily distinguishable and utterly unique. Most are special editions where the manufacturer has chosen not to release any further updates after shipping. Be together. Not the same.

I llive in Arizona where it's extremely hot in summer and a band like this was sorely needed.
I do not have an Apple Watch, but I'm curious.. it holds up outside in those summer months there? I'm in central Texas, and in the summer months, I can't even take my iPhone on walks/runs with me. It's too hot out. I even had my previous 5C "explode" on me because of the heat back when I didn't really believe the operating temps meant serious business. The battery expanded and popped the screen off. It was within the 1st year and the genius bar rep was sympathetic, replaced it as a warranty claim.

$50 for something that costs 40 cents to make and ship?

I think Apple is going too far with this. Especially when you consider that a base model goes for 299 now (which is still high for the limited functionality).

It really turns me away from Apple brand. Makes me think that Apple is the new Microsoft (under Ballmer).

Well a bunch of newer styles have slipped to several weeks for shipping, so clearly these are selling.

50 bucks?! LOL... how does anyone justify that price?! Looks like Apple consumers will pay any price just to have the apple name on it, even if its just a piece of rubber, haha.

Because the Chinese make copies for $7, but since they cheapened out $0.50 on the rubber and the connector, turning a product that could be excellent, into CRAP. Apple can get our $50.

That's why. That's how brands work.

If that's the case, they're better off with Android devices. Nothing sets one iDevice apart from the other.

Nobody gives a f*** about how the the home screen looks, we just want icons that look well together, and a design language that works in every device.

People prefer to personalize the exterior, that's what you see for more than 1 sec, and everyone sees.

It's easy to sum it up when you're just talking about watch bands. We're sitting in here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we in here talking about watch bands. I mean, listen, we're talking about watch bands, not a computer, not a computer, not a computer, we talking about watch bands. Not a computer. Not, not … Not the computer that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. Not the computer, but we're talking about watch bands, man. I mean, how silly is that? … And we talking about watch bands. I know I supposed to be there. I know I'm supposed to lead by example... I know that... And I'm not.. I'm not shoving it aside, you know, like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I do. I honestly do... But we're talking about watch bands man. What are we talking about? Watch bands? We're talking about watch bands, man. [laughter from the media crowd] We're talking about watch bands. We're talking about watch bands. We ain't talking about the computer. [more laughter] We're talking about watch bands, man. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you see me play don't you? You've seen me give everything I've got, right? But we're talking about watch bands right now.

That graphic reminds me of a lady's eyeshadow case. Intentional?

Amazing fact: 50% of world's population are woman!

Who would have known!?

Tim Cook is such a genius to figure that out!

Doesn't everyone buy third-party straps now?

Or do those with lots of money still buy Apple's own?

They are all crap.

Tried a couple.

All the same crap. The rubber is too flimsy, it's a dust magnet for some reason, a pain in the a** to put in/take out, not worth the $7.

For the people in this market, I'm genuinely glad for them. I have no desire to diminish any excitement they have for this.

As for me, having bought my first iPhone on June 29, 2007, currently owning an iPod Hi-Fi and loving it, having owned and enjoyed the Mighty Mouse, still kicking it with my .mac email address, even occasionally firing up my pre-Intel Mac Pro tower of power, and using my Apple Watch to track my daily run, I simply cannot muster even a scintilla of interest in watch band announcements. For me, there is nothing Apple about watch bands. Nothing. I hate to say it, but I hope they aren't a source of revenue or marketing or goodwill for Apple - I want selfishly for Apple to look for revenue and marketing and goodwill in Tech, not bracelets.

They are trying to be the next k-mart. Stores on every corner. I hear they are going to introduce running shoes next, with an iWatch interface of course.

That's why branding and/or reputation is important and often requires huge investments. People will gladly pay more for a given brand if the perception is in favor (for any reason).

For you. Others will and are enjoying the bands. Others will hate them. Others (me) find them superfluous. Does the bracelet increase earnings? By God, make and sell more! Or is apple supposed to be an idealistic company? They learned their lesson in the 90s.

I noticed the part number of (some?) existing models changed. For instance the "42mm Stainless Steel Case with Saddle Brown Classic Buckle" was MLC92LL/A and is now MMFT2LL/A.

What changed?

no way.. available for personal pickup? they are not sold out? gonna leave work early to get it :sarcasm

If you don't mind, let the customer decides how he/she is better off and which kind and level of personalization does he/she wants for the price he/she is willing to pay for it.

There is close to ZERO customization on iDevices. If the consumer decides on say, an iPhone, then they don't care for customization or have no knowledge about the ability to do so on alternatives and the inability to do so on an iPhone.

I dont know much about the rubber bands apple sells, but it's rubber. If I were to use phone cases bought retail and ones off ebay for ONE DOLLAR which I've owned plenty of, they're more than adequate. 50 dollars for something that essentially costs them pennies is robbery... and what you're doing is essentially telling them you're content with it. Perhaps you've got a lot of spare money you can waste, but most of us dont have the privilege to be so careless with money.

Please know that you're WRONG, lol.

I along with MANY others very much DO care how the home screen looks. For one, I'm able to manage which apps are static in my dock on my Nexus phone. Next, I use Chronus widget which tells me the time and current weather based on my location; tapping either section opens up my alarm clock which I use frequently or an expanded view of a 5 day forecast. I've got only TWO home-screens because that's all I need for my main apps and all others that I rarely use are tucked away. I've got 8 contacts on the second home screen as shortcuts since they're my most often used one. This has been my preferred view for a very long time.

Of course, this is MY preferred method. My mom and dad both have their own preferences of how their MAIN SCREEN looks/acts. All my friends who are on android phones have their own customization and many of them use Nova Launcher to get even more customization to THEIR liking along with other things like different keyboards, backgrounds, lock screens, etc.

But hey, you say people dont care about customization right? Then why did Apple add alternative keyboard support in iOS? What about those that jailbreak their phones? What about those that actually DO customize their phone in other ways?

You know, it's a good thing Android (and other platforms) exist if only to run your anger wild. You're not entitled to have everyone do things the way YOU DO just because your selfish.

Thank god for CHOICE.

What ever price the market will bare. You buy Apple, you are buying into a brand more than a technology.

Well done..... Even better than the NCAA tourney explanation of how Yale out-rebounded Butler.

I honestly don't know what point you're trying to make. The exclamation points are seriously throwing me off. Are you agreeing with me? Disagreeing? Happy? Mad?

Sincerely,
Clueless in Seattle

With 10 to 12 MILLION watches out there, you'll have hundreds of thousands of people wanting a new watch band once in a while. Some of them don't buy knock offs because they want something that will last or at least come with a decent, local guarantee. This isn't news. This isn't keynote-worthy. But Apple will be selling trainloads of watch bands, and had a pretty good stage/venue to advertise them, and did. Nothing surprising about this. This thread? Will probably sell a 1000 more watch bands.
