As long as I can't stream the audio to multiple airplay devices then it is DOA for me. I can't reason why Apple hasn't been clear about why the airplay option is unavailable for beats1. Sure, I can stream audio (and all my computer sounds) through a single airplay device, but that is limiting as compared to all the other radio stations available through Apple Music.

And while my music tastes are pretty broad, just about every time I decide to give beats 1 yet another go, I find the music to be the same old hip-hop/rap. It would be great if they do add more live radio stations that cater to different music tastes.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to be able to stream to multiple devices?

Out of curiosity, why do you want to be able to stream to multiple devices?

I have an airport express in my living room and an apple TV in my media room and Denon receiver out on my deck. I want to be able to stream music to all three devices just like I can with ALL the other music from iTunes. Except Beats 1 and NPR.

I also don't want to then switch over to Safari to watch a video and, if I've changed my sound output to accommodate this weird Beats 1restriction, then that audio plays through my airplay device too. And nobody knows why this restriction is in place.

Very much so. It's not perfect, it's not format specific so there are going to be songs some listeners aren't going to like at any particular moment. That's also its strength, a return to old style radio, not corporate driven playlists.

The on air talent is great, and the specialty shows are awesome. As mentioned St. Vincent's and Elton John's are standouts and worth giving you time for.

I suggest giving it a week try, I think most will find something they like.
In fact beats 1 provides me several songs I would like to listen more than once or twice, and I have purchased them.

I think this might be the purpose of beats 1.

This is absolutely an awesome step for Beats 1 to take. I've had a decent amount of interest in the show, but often just not the time to listen live, so that's nice. I really like Pharrells and Drakes show.

I dunno, do podcasts stream live ? All the ones I know of get uploaded. (I always thought that was the main difference)

due to that nature you dont have live interaction ( requests , call-ins, etc)

I also haven't found a podcast yet that plays extended playlists of music ( there might be one out there who knows) they seem to mostly focus on commentary.
There are podcasts that are recorded versions of live shows (audio DVRs). I think there are EDM podcasts that are all music (Ninja Tune I think). So I would call these on-demand streams podcasts.

Did you know?.......

Once a show is playing on your device, hit the + button and it will be added to your music library across all devices. This way you have easy access the the radio show within your personal playlist.

Radio... Seriously, is there any other country than the US where people still listens to radio?
i don't think so. I used to listen to radio when i had an old car with a basic CD player with no iphone/ipod integration. But now i always listen to what i want from my 160GB iPod. :)

Probably it's a coincidence, but every time I try the Beats 1, only hip hop is playing.

Yep, I really tried to like it, and must have given it 'one more chance' fifty plus times, but each time I tuned in it was hip-hop/rap playing. Maybe coincidence, maybe design, maybe I'm just unlucky, but for me at least, it doesn't (seem to) play anything I like, so I've given up.

DJs talking over the music didn't help, either.

"Though a feature that's likely going to be welcome by many Beats 1 listeners, Replay is somewhat hidden."
You can also tap on the artist name pretty much anywhere in the music app and under the connect section you'll find these replays. That's not hidden at all.

Wow , some contradictory posts here. I find the programming pretty varied with yes an accent on hip hop/rap but far broader than some here paint it to be.

That's because for people my age, hip-hip/rap is 80% of the music they listen to.

Beats doesn't have a specific genre but it definitely does have an age bracket they're targeting. All of the music Beats plays is the type of music you'll find in every nightclub in my city right now. People pay $15 entry and $10 per drink to get into those clubs, and there's usually a long line out the door and down the street so clearly it's popular music.

If that's not the music you want, then Beats 1 Isn't for you. Hopefully they'll create "Beats 2" with different music.

Well as beats 1 is basically the Radio 1 we get in the UK, maybe Beats 2 will be the equivalent of Radio 2, which I listen to as background noise most days.

PS I'm not some old duffer, I got up at 6am yesterday to watch the Live stream of the last ever show at the House of Blues, LA, to see Steel Panther jamming with Bliiy Ray and Miley Cyrus! :)

How can I actually add a DJ to my Connect if I don't have Beats 1 in my country? Searching by DJ name just gives me list of shows, not his \ hers profile page that I can subscribe to.

Does anyone like b1? I have yet to find a song i like or even know of.

Not finding a song you even know of on a music based radio station is total win for me, and the entire point. You can play songs you already know from your music library!

Hearing an underground minimal techno track at 1.30pm in the afternoon on a mainstream live music radio station is mindblowing - the BBC in the UK would have to have some crap chart music and an idiot who thinks he's trendy telling jokes for kids under the age of 16.
